Not only that, but I am began interesting different cultures as well. Because different cultures are unique and fascinating to learn and to know about. Knowing that Hmong is close related to the Chinese culture and was originated from China. I became more interested into Chinese language and their culture. I wanted to explore their background of how it relates to the Hmong. And I finally had the opportunity in high school to take a class, Chinese, at the University of Marathon County as a high school student. I have to thank Youth Options for helping my childhood dreams to come true. Moreover, the more I learn about the Chinese culture, the more it makes me wanting to learn other cultures. Therefore, I did researched on many University of Wisconsin schools that have at least Chinese as a subject. And I found that University of Wisconsin Milwaukee has Chinese. Although there are many other schools out there, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee had caught my attention, not only because of Chinese but the campus have some subjects that I am interested into, like the arts field. It is called Key Club. I enjoy meeting new people and helping the community. It let me experience of how it feels to help the people around you. And I feel like, I have redeem all the bad things I did when I was little. Like, when I hurt the people’s feelings. Hence, I am also in Knitting club since freshman year and until now, I am a co-president of the club. We knit washcloths, scarves, baby hats, socks, and leg warmers. Afterwards the club will decide to donate or sell to the community or the school. I have been improving my socialization and my communication over the years with the help of these clubs that made me more open minded and taught myself about the outside
Many students attend the University of Wisconsin Platteville for its assortment of majors and
Key Club, Future Farmers of America, and Furry Friends were the three clubs I sought out to join because they shared the same intention of bettering my community. In FFA, I fought to become the secretary because I wanted to use my high position
Though learning about my origin didn 't gave a clear picture of what I wanted to become, I thought about it all the time ever since my beginning of high school. Then soon realized of what I liked to do and what I know
and I think Madison would be an amazing place to pursue this track because of the wide variety of courses and strong research opportunities that will allow me to further my educational endeavors
I felt short-changed being in such an amazing place for opportunity living in America, yet I felt as if I was ripped from the fabric of my Chinese birthplace. I felt that my adoption was an anchor of my life. While struggling with this connection, I came to appreciate all that America had to offer. I grew up like any other
I have been a Club member for about 6 months now, and it has been amazing! My background is different, like every other member here, I am particularly known as a kind person who doesn’t give up, but sometimes gets mad at the slightest things, and I recognize that. This place helps me keep my grades up, if I need to get things done, then I can just do it during Power Hour! The people here even
In middle school and high school, almost every club I was in had to do with serving the community. It has always been something I enjoyed doing. I live in Johnstown, a city where many of the families are in poverty. One of my school 's biggest projects was Trojan Family Christmas, which was a charity event sponsored by Kiwanis Club through our Key Club that ensured children within my school district got at least one present. The members of Key Club, which included myself, put together different activities for the children, which included making Christmas ornaments and hot chocolate.
In my 6 years at Club, I have taken up a huge interest in advocating and listening to others point of views. I am extremely passionate about making other members Club experience as positive and life changing as possible. I think becoming a leader at Club has been a huge eye opener and has truly made me realize you have no idea what others are going through. Everyone walks in through the Club doors to the same environment, but the truth is, everyone leaves to a different home life and takes on different responsibilities. I want to make everyone feel comfortable and loved when they walk through those doors.
I moved with my family from Poland to the United States when I was in second grade. Ever since then, I always felt the privilege of knowing two completely different lifestyles allowed me to become more open-minded. Since I am fortunate enough to remember the culture of my motherland from when I was young, I grow up admiring different culture and observing what they have in common as well as seeking things that make each country unique. Consequently, I think it was my background that shaped me to be the person I am today as I love testing new ideas.
Velasquez 1 Do you ever wonder what college would be good for you? Well, I have a recommendation! The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is a very interesting school. It has many different courses in which I’m interested in. This school is 6th place in the World for Arts and Design.
When I was younger, I lived in a small village in China where everyone was Chinese like me. Moving to America, I was exposed to diversity for the first time. I have friends from France, Mexico, Vietnam, among many other places, and this inspired my love for world history. I had always loved Chinese history because I was proud to be a member of one of the oldest cultures in the world. However, I also wanted to learn about other groups and their cultures.
However, when I look back now, I just couldn’t believe how far my family and I had come which I have my father to thank for. If it wasn’t for my father, I’ll still be going to school in India without ever knowing that this other half of the world even existed, because of the rough circumstances we were facing in India. The future wouldn’t have been as bright as it now and I feel truly blessed to have come to a new world which contained many great opportunities. The struggle of being an immigrant is one thing, but the challenges of being a teenager is another thing.
When I was born, I was taken to an orphanage by my birth parents in China, but I will never know why. Luckily, little less than a year later, my adoptive parents — who I call just my parents — came and brought me into their loving family. When I was very young, I did not really understand the concept of adoption and what it meant. I was just told these people are my parents, and I needed to love them as they loved me. Having a background with such different cultures made my childhood and cultural experiences very unique.
After taking both AP United States History and AP World History in high school, I have learned that I find studying the history of a variety of places and time periods very intriguing. At Wisconsin, I would be able to take classes in several areas that will allow me to go into much more detail than I was able to in high school. Professor
After my freshman year was done, I was no longer able to give up my study hall up to go read with those kids. I began, then, to look for other ways to help. It was during that search that I found the Friends Program. I joined my junior year and I have not regretted a single moment since. I love the ability it gives me to work with children and help them and myself become better.
