I became interested in public health following a conversation surrounding my career choices with my older sister who currently work as a Nurse Manager. It all started with me reflecting on my life, and where it was heading post undergrad and working in job fields that were not fulfilling and satisfying. Henceforth I was determined to find a program that arouse passion and filled me with joy when thinking about countless possibilities I would have to help the community at large and started researching the avenues I can take with an MPH degree. I had always been fascinated with health care and wanted to be a part of the health field, but would often pull away from the notion as I thought all of health care consist of medical and clinical practices, …show more content…
Mahatma Gandhi said it best when he stated the following" You must be the change you wish to see in the world". As an educator I have been fortunate to work with various groups of children from all walks of life and I have learned a great deal from them as they have from me. I learned a lot about diverse communities and how hard it is for parents who speaks another language to be able to conform to American standard and foster the education and well being of their children in guidance with American standards. Moreover a majority of those families are not aware of the resources available to them in their community due to language and economic barriers they face. I have seen first hand how the school, government, are simply not doing enough for those families due to their barriers and does not even bother to appeal to them to see in which way they can better help them adjust to their new life, and see what basic needs they have and how to target those needs and help them give back to their community. I hope to bridge the gap between poverty, healthcare, and education to help defy the odds for many of those living in poverty. I am a firm believer in change and re-educating those who feels as though their living situations and life situations defines who they are, and determines their fate, I want to continue to fight against that thought process by advocating for scholarship, leadership, trainings to help better foster those communities and others around …show more content…

While going into the program I knew healthcare was for me, but I was unsure of what field to purse. Amongst the variety of departments I worked in, the one that stood out the most was my time in the obstetrics and pediatric floor. After graduating from the Academy, my path was clear and I had a mind set on where I see myself in ten years. Becoming a pediatrician will allow me to reach my life long goals of helping others. As a pediatrician caring for young children, I will be able to impact the lives of not only the patients but their families as well.
The strong Lutheran foundation at Valparaiso University that prepares students to lead and serve in the community. In addition to the church, and society offers me the opportunity to pursue a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. I enrolled in an LPN program with only 12 weeks until graduation, but the school closed with no further information.

I have always wanted to pursue a career related to the medical field, and it wasn't until my freshman year of college that I encountered the area of public health. I was immediately drawn to the specific area of epidemiology and infectious diseases. I am now a junior at the University of Texas majoring in Public Health with a concentration in microbiology and infectious diseases. I find epidemiology so enthralling, as it is implements ways in which we can scientifically and statistically describe diseases and the mortality/morbidity as well as predict how and why they spread. More so, I think the infectious disease aspect is interesting as well, because while the United States has shifted from burden of infectious disease to that of chronic
I majored in the interdisciplinary field of Women, Gender and Sexuality and I believe University of Michigan’s master’s program of Health Management and Policy will complement my undergrad degree. When I started college I was pre-med, but I soon realized that medical school is not the best fit for me, but my interest in health care did not waver. After, I started working on my major; I realized that I would like to focus on women’s health and on the fight for women’s health. I am aware of the changes in health care and policies needing to reviewed and modified to fit the general public. I believe people with diverse backgrounds are the best to assist in the changing health care.
