At the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Arts and Sciences, I plan to pursue my academic interests by majoring in Biology. I first discovered my interest in the subject last semester and found that learning a science that was applicable to the very basis of life was intriguing. I enjoyed the course so much that I decided to take Biology II and Microbiology for the current semester. I would like to explore my new academic interest by working with Penn faculty and researchers, such as Dr. Paul Bates. Dr.Bates is currently researching viral glycoproteins and host cell factors that allow infection. His lab at Penn works with several different viruses and is now researching whether or not Tetherin is a new innate immune recognition receptor. As a possible future medical professional, the idea of studying factors that affect infections in patients is extremely exciting. Being able to work and research with Dr.Bates on a project such as this is the type of opportunity that I hope to have while attending the University of Pennsylvania. …show more content…
Due to my upbringing, I have always had a deep interest in East Asian countries, particularly Japan. I would love the opportunity to study in Japan and learn about different cultures. It is my belief that studying abroad changes a person in a way that allows them to think and see the world in a different light. Studying abroad with Penn will allow me to experience a different culture. Those experiences will change me in a way that will one day make me an excellent physician by changing the way I approach issues and giving me valuable insight to a culture different from my own.
What interests you about your selected program of study? Computer science has always been the aspect of study that has grabbed my attention from a young age. CS always created a sense of awe in me because of the fact that individual people, with a firm understanding of CS, could completely manipulate technology into whatever creation they wanted. In the same way an artist can paint on a canvas, computer scientist can create through code and each program carries a sense of the programmer with it. The more you learn about CS the more uses it gains, making it a tool that builds upon itself.
As I peer into the microscope to catch a glimpse of neuroblastoma cells growing in my Petri dish, I glance down at my notes. There, a combination of numbers and letters spell out the reasoning behind my experiments. There, chemistry and biology meet and harmonize, allowing me to combine different areas of science into cellular biology research. This interdisciplinary approach to studying science is one that Kathrin Jansen, the Senior Vice President of Vaccine Research and Early Development at Pfizer, is well acquainted with. Jansen, a prominent researcher living in New Jersey, inspires me and my pursuits in science; she is undeterred by challenges faced as a female scientific researcher and values analyzing scientific problems from different perspectives.
I stand out because I am invested in my future. For the past few years I have dedicated myself to my future career by taking the most difficult classes that my school has to offer. This has helped me be a better student as I have some knowledge of the classes I will be taking in college. I am an independent, organized person as I am able to juggle my classes, extracurriculars, and other activities. Another way that I am unique is my ability to take charge in a situation.
Statement of Personal Achievements It was the end of my junior year of high school that I decided to immigrate to the United States. I was motivated to come to America from Hong Kong for my education. I also aimed to broaden my perspective on life. As a new immigrant and young adult, my life completely changed within these two years.

He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine with tenure in 2010.
Too many people money is one of the most important aspects of their life. It is a measurement often used for anything and everything a person wants to achieve. Growing up, a lack of money impacted the things I wanted to do and goals I wished to achieve, so learning about how money moved around, how to make it and how to spend it effectively was something that spiked my interest and turned my focus to the subject of business. The wide ranging and numerous opportunities available to be successful combined with the notion of running a business has excited me over the years. Studying a business management degree to me is about the growth, sustainability and development of a company, and also skills I feel I can develop further, such as being a more rounded
My initial attraction to medicine stemmed from my fascination for the science, which grew upon moving across continents and discovering its universality and subjectivity. It excited me that through medicine, I could interact with people from all walks of life while also pursuing my passion for science. Although the application of science in an ever-expanding field was my initial motivation for wanting to study medicine, my motives expanded as I gained new experiences in the field. These experiences helped me discover the art of medicine and the privilege of connecting with patients, which goes beyond what science can offer. Interacting with patients and hearing different narratives everyday has been a humbling experience that has helped me better understand myself and the world I live in.
The demand for globalised trade and investment has significantly increased in recent years. This has meant that there is a need for individuals who are trained in business and completing this degree will allow me to enter the field of business. Books such as 'How the city of London works' by William M. Clark has highlighted the importance of finances and further expanded my knowledge and interest into why businesses succeed or fail. Programmes such as 'The Apprentice' has enabled me to gain an insight of how the business world operates.

While life-long learning exposes you to new possibilities of improvements, it also excels you in your areas of expertise. Knowledge is never enough and you can never be satisfied with what you learn because there is always new stuff to learn. It is never too late or too soon to learn. Whatever skills a person acquire can last for life-long, but the same skills will not be applied in the workforce for life-long. An article by Coleman supports that learning isn’t simply about earning degrees or attending storied institutions (Coleman, 2017).
Art had always been a big part of my life. At age 12, I remember watching a music video of my favourite band and how tears just started to stream down my face. I was so touched at how such a beautiful story was told in such a simple way. Since then, I promised myself that I would someday make something that beautiful. I would make a mark on the world, as I inspire others to make their own.
My plans and goals after I finish this Master’s degree program is to eventually to work my way up to a project management position. I currently work at the Florida SouthWestern State College in Fort Myers, Florida as a Web Applications Developer where my primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of dynamic web based applications that would integrate into the College-wide enterprise application suite and any other third-party systems and services. I am using PHP (a server-side scripting language) and CodeIgniter (a popular PHP web framework) to create these modern web applications for the college. My future career goal is to hold an administrative or project management role that would oversee and manage all levels of web operations particularly in application development and integration. An application administrator’s main responsibility would be to assure that the following characteristics are incorporated in the production of each enterprise application: reliability, security, scalability, interoperability, usability, testability, and ensuring that the performance of these applications
Since I was young, I learned many different good values thanks to my family that always encouraged the promotion of these. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela. I was a part of the school “Colegio Santiago de Leon de Caracas”, where I was able to develop the different values that I possess today. In this stage of my life I learned what responsibility was, and would continue to be one of my mayor values. This value ensured the achievement of my commitments and my goals.
My idea of the good life involves using the knowledge and wisdom I acquire to improve the well-being of our planet and all sentient creatures living on it. My undergraduate experience at the University of Florida would prepare me to achieve this by making me a well-rounded individual, providing me the means to achieve my goals, and helping me to communicate my ideas. While many see education as a means to an end, I value education most for its ability to shape me. I hope to use my experience at UF to deepen my perception and understanding of the world to improve my decision-making by learning from the mistakes of the past, and to enhance my opinions by learning about the views of others, especially when they contradict my own. Not only will my education at UF help me gain knowledge, but it will also train me in various ways of thinking, allowing me to better analyze life situations and make better decisions.
One of the most serious problems affecting society today is the wide variety of acute health conditions including cardiac arrest, heart attacks, allergic reactions, and contagious diseases among many others. These conditions affect hundreds of thousands of people around the world every single day, and I, as a soon to be emergency physician, would dedicate my life to be the person who helps patients fight through these conditions, and fight for better health regulations, as well as better education of healthier lifestyles so people can avoid many of these conditions. The field that interests me the most is called Emergency medicine, a specialization in medicine that has a big effect in society, it is the second level of the EMS system that treats patients ranging from simple things such as a simple infection, to a trauma patient, emergency physicians provide the care that stabilizes the patients for specialized care and in some cases even treat their condition.
