My greatest contribution to society, in the future, would be to help feed the hungry people of the world. In 2050 we will need to feed an estimated 9.7 billion people. This would mean our agriculture production will need to increase by 100%. It is a goal of mine to help feed all future generations with my contribution to the Poultry Science industry, from my home state. Arkansas is one of the top ranked poultry producing state in the United States of America. This demand for more production means our farmers will need to utilize every inch of land in the most effective way possible, and the birds produced will need to be bigger, healthier, and even more efficient at converting feed to weight ratios. In the 1970’s it took 9 weeks for broilers …show more content…
Web. 5 Nov. 2016. Statistics like these that have motivated me in my pursue of a Poultry Science degree. Broilers are widely produced in Arkansas, 53 out of 75 counties in Arkansas produce broilers. Needless to say the poultry industry is an important aspect of Arkansas and her workers. However, I want to bring more jobs to this natural state, making Arkansas a better place for future generations to live. More than 40,000 jobs are created by the poultry industry, yet Arkansas is a state with significant poverty. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Agriculture in their Economic Research Report ranked Arkansas the worst in the nation in severe food insecurity. Because of this I am compelled to make a difference for my fellow Arkansans. My involvement in my high school’s FFA chapter has motivated me to answer this call. I am an active member of Lincoln’s poultry team. This has given me hands on experience with a fraction of the Poultry Science industry. I have a rather large family, with a total of four sisters, dollars must stretch. Due to this, I did not have much money set aside to fund my
In 1950, it took 68 days to raise a chicken to full size. In 2008, the number of days reduced dramatically to 47 days. This is a result of artificial stimulants and antibodies. Farmers feed chickens corn and other chemicals to make them grow faster so they can make more money for the big companies. The farmers don't really make a profit, are put in huge amounts of debt and are threatened by big name companies if they reveal or say anything they do not approve of.
As a State FFA Officer, we are the greatest representatives of Agriculture in not only our state, but the nation as well. As agriculturalists, farmers, businessmen and women, government officials, family and friends follow us throughout our year, they will be highly influenced by our example. This year as a State Officer I have a great hope to advocate for agriculture. It is essential to help promote the image of agriculture in a positive way, sharing great stories, ideas and future plans for this industry. The objective as a State FFA Officer is to inspire the people we meet by showing them the opportunities found in agriculture.
At the age of ten being raised by minority parents was very difficult for me at the time. At the age of ten I was forced for my English and Spanish vocabulary to be very proficient due to always translating for my parents. At that age learning both languages was annoying, frustrating, and difficult; however that experience shaped me to be a proficient bilingual nurse present and gain benefits by being bilingual. The benefits where the many open job opportunities with the increase pay. This experience also assisted to raise my daughter to speak and write both languages actively although just not the way my parents forced it on me.
Creating a personal and motivational drive to succeed is an essential aspect of my life. Being actively involved in high school has lead me to this drive. Through these experiences in high school, I am more than capable to succeed in college. At North Fort Myers High School, the fulfillment of experiences has lead me to attending the University of South Florida starting in 2017. Nursing has become not only a passion, but a future career.
Although there are no extra costs producers experience, except time and factors of production (chickens) lost, with high demands and low
As a native Cuban, I always appreciate medicine very much. I was limited myself to good healthcare access because my prior country’s healthcare system was not advanced, it had limited resources was not organized in a fair way. In this situation, I realized I needed to learn medicine myself and be in a position to take care of my loved ones and also help as many needed people as I could so I became a doctor. This passion for medicine has continued my whole life, and that is why in this country I am pursuing a career as a nurse.
DIS specifically tries to create a learning environment where students can learn in and out of the classroom, and I want to use that opportunity to expand my knowledge of the education system, and child development throughout the entire world. Studying elementary education, and multiculturalism is something I am very passionate about, and when I saw the courses that DIS had to offer I immediately wanted to be there working with kids, and studying multiculturalism in a very multicultural setting. I could not think of a better way to get a better understanding of child development and multiculturalism than to be fully immersed in an environment that embodies the characteristics of a multicultural community. My major is elementary education,
I am seeking employment with your organization in an administrative or leadership role. I feel that with my experience as a Change Coordinator, heading up cost reduction efforts and process changes, leading cross functional teams, and exceptional track record developing, implementing, and sustaining new processes and procedures, from the ground up, I would make an exceptional new member of your organization team. Effective change management is an integral part of sustaining improvements for any organization. In 2008, I developed the Process Change Management process; which is utilized and replicated by other Caterpillar facilities, that ensures timely implementation of engineering changes, new product introduction, and all process changes affecting production. By utilizing resources from other departments within the Caterpillar organization and utilizing a network of suppliers, the Process Change Management process has been sustained and transformed into a robust business process which drives continuous improvement and on time delivery.
Throughout countless years of education, one has been taught that education is the key to success. Attending school and maintaining an education is a part of life that many people focus on. Many times, education is perceived as a challenging game in the way that a person must master one level of knowledge to transition onto the next and win the challenge. However, when one has mastered the challenge and the game is over, what is left for a person to do? An individual has two options, either repeat the game or find a new game to play, but is that an option after a student graduates?
To make a change, to make a difference, and to make a mark are my goals in life. In order to achieve my ambition, I plan to be the first in my family to attend a 4-year college. I plan to be the first in my family to earn a bachelors degree. I plan to be the first to not let my economic barriers restrain me from achieving my dreams. I have undergone various hardships which have shaped me into the passionate and hardworking student I am today.
When I read the essay question, I immediately looked up synonyms for “educated.” There were many words that I expected to see such as “intelligent” and “accomplished,” but there were others that really resonated with me such as “enriched,” “trained,” “coached,” “corrected,” and “developed.” I embraced those words because they more closely describe me, and I would like to consider myself to be an educated person. I truly enjoy learning and appreciate the many opportunities I have had to be educated both in and outside of the classroom. From my perspective, an educated person encompasses much more than good grades and a high ACT score.
It’s always the same after every introduction and a little history lesson about the Christianity of India. The all too familiar question “ Since you’re parents are both pastors, will you become a pastor too?” If I can count there may be around 3,000 times people asked whether I would become a pastor since I will be fourth generation women on my mother’s side that go to seminary. It still confuses me every time why everyone thought I would become a pastor like my parents. Indeed, I come from a long lineage of pastors and missionaries from both of my parent’s families, however, I always felt it is a calling that was more sacred and meaningful rather than carrying on the family name.
The ever-rising cost of farm living is growing exponentially every year, but income continues to decline how do we expect the small farmers to make it? Between new generations, rising cost, the growth of agribusiness, and the advancements in technology we have virtually wiped out all of the family farms we saw 50 years ago. This is no new phenomenon, farmers have always been motivated to “get big, or get out” as President Nixon’s secretary of agriculture Earl Butz said in 1973 (Down on the farm). The farmers of the 21st century have done just that, gotten big. Michael Pollan, a writer of food production and author of bestselling books, blames the government's way to enable the big businesses and forget
My engagement with my family is quite distant from what would be considered “the norm” by many teenagers. As a result of my engagement with my family, I have learned many things. I help my family take care of our house by doing chores like vacuuming the carpeted areas of the house, mowing the lawn, and helping my mom cook. These chores taught me to be a responsible person; and in my opinion, learning to be a responsible person is the first milestone on the path to maturity. My dad further authenticated my opinion about me being responsible, by entrusting me his credit card.
Agriculture has always been known as an industry that only includes traditional farming and ranching, but is, in fact, one of the overall broadest industries. Major businesses within it rely on hard-working advertising and public relations departments to get their message out to non-Ag communities nationwide. I have grown up with a passion for agriculture, which is why my greatest career aspiration is to be an agricultural communicator within the industry of agriculture. By attending Oklahoma State University after high school, I believe that I can and will be qualified for a career as a public relations specialist. A large majority of my life has revolved around agriculture, most of which has been thrust upon me through the FFA.
