Throughout high school, I have participated in many extracurricular activities and volunteer work. Many of those activities included neighborhood clean-ups, fundraisers, science research, community outreach and more. Out of all my activities throughout my high school career; one organization specifically played a major role in my continuous quest to improve my community. During my junior year of high school, I got the opportunity to take part in an organization dedicated to uplifting inner city youth. I was a peer leader at Community Healthcare Network Teens P.A.C.T (positive action and choices for teens). My job as a peer leader was to conduct workshops revolving around social and health issues. Those issues included but were not limited to healthy relationships, pregnancy prevention, contraception and more. As a peer leader, I had to quickly get over my stage fright and become more outspoken to catch the interest of my fellow teens. Neighborhood outreach is my favorite means of interacting with the community because it is the most personal. Through neighborhood outreach, I was able to build a bond with the community. I enjoyed being able to interact face to face with the people and to hold a meaningful conversation about a variety of social and health topics.
