Throughout high school, I have participated in many extracurricular activities and volunteer work. Many of those activities included neighborhood clean-ups, fundraisers, science research, community outreach and more. Out of all my activities throughout my high school career; one organization specifically played a major role in my continuous quest to improve my community. During my junior year of high school, I got the opportunity to take part in an organization dedicated to uplifting inner city youth. I was a peer leader at Community Healthcare Network Teens P.A.C.T (positive action and choices for teens). My job as a peer leader was to conduct workshops revolving around social and health issues. Those issues included but were not limited to healthy relationships, pregnancy prevention, contraception and more. As a peer leader, I had to quickly get over my stage fright and become more outspoken to catch the interest of my fellow teens. I would interact with the community through several means which included workshops that were done at certain schools and health fairs, teen nights which would be held at the health center for teens to come interact and speak their minds, and my favorite neighborhood outreach in which I a peer leader get a chance to go …show more content…
Neighborhood outreach is my favorite means of interacting with the community because it is the most personal. Through neighborhood outreach, I was able to build a bond with the community. I enjoyed being able to interact face to face with the people and to hold a meaningful conversation about a variety of social and health topics. I also enjoyed being able to share information on certain health topics with the community. I truly believe that neighborhood outreach is a major way of improving the community from the
Since beginning my search for the right college, I have had to ask myself these similar questions to help me decide what school will be the best fit for me and allow me to take in the full college experience. It was simple to become interested in Eau Claire because of the positive recommendations from people in my life and because of the location, which I found intriguing. I spoke to many alumni who articulated the positive aspects offered by Eau Claire and encouraged me to consider it as a great option for my future education. Knowing people who have graduated and who are currently attending Eau Claire makes it easier to feel more secure in my decision to apply and envision myself becoming a Blugold. The college location and size were important features because I wanted to have an out of state experience as well as attend a school that was not too
Economics: After my Careers class, I knew that my future career could be in the area of economics, but I lack knowledge and experience about working in these fields. I have always been passionate about current economic issues, and I stay informed by reading reliable sources such as the Economist that give me insight. This internship is an opportunity to apply what I've learned and investigate deeply into the underlying causes behind them. Additionally, I never had exposure to working in a professional environment, and this internship provides me with the chance to experience working as an adult. Therefore, this internship gives me an opportunity to explore careers in these areas and can guide me to a career that is suitable for me.
Being raised in my unique family situation, I was blessed with the opportunity to learn from my older brother’s successes and failures that allowed me to realize the importance of learning from others. At age 4, I began learning to ski as my first sport and the lessons learned have continued to help me throughout life. Being the youngest skier in our group, I was challenged to keep up with the more experienced skiers, which motivated me to learn quickly and progress to more difficult terrain. With the encouragement of my mother, I began racing dirt bikes through the Motocross Racing Association as the youngest in my class for my bike. I began to learn from the others around me on how to progress my abilities, work on my bike, and succeed in
During my high school years, I rarely thought about a career I wanted to pursue once I finished college. The typical career that did come to mind when I thought of how I would spend the rest of my life was being a medical doctor. This was only because I grew up in a South Asian community filled with medical doctors, engineers, and lawyers. The only problem with those careers - I didn’t see myself enjoying any of them. When someone chooses a career, it is basically a lifelong commitment.
During the summer of my sophomore year, I undertook the task of learning how to build and design web pages. After many trials and errors, I finally understood the code, the design, and the hard work that comes with creating, designing, and coding a website. Before I had the idea to create a business, I did many practice runs sometimes doing web page design for school projects and for family. As I gained more and more confidence as a web page designer, I consulted my twin brother and two childhood friends about starting a company. After almost 6 months of deliberation and planning, we finally created a company called creative design in the late fall of 2015.
Education is personally important to me because when you come from an uneducated family like me, it gives you a purpose to work even harder to achieve your education and it has always been something that i’ve been trying to accomplish ever since I lived in Thailand refugee came, but there wasn't much opportunity for us refugee to have access to educations. When I was 7 years old, my dad passed away in Thailand, and ever since then, my mom wanted to come to the United States, so she can give me the life she never had. Also, Although my mother is my inspiration, she’s my sole motivation to work hard in school and earn a college degree. With my education, I want to be able to support my mom because she has been worked very hard to get me where I am right now. I want to lead a happy life and enjoy the good things has to offer, and I know that I certainly need education for that.
After I graduate college I plan to follow in my grandfather’s footsteps and become a Manager of Space Launch Vehicle Division at NASA. By going into this field of study I wish to create better rockets and space rovers, further explore space, and help expand knowledge to younger generations. Space is one of the universes’ biggest mysteries and it is up to us as scientist to obtain as much knowledge as possible while keeping the younger generation interested to continue our research. I have been mechanically inclined since I was little; building, inventing, and using my wild imagination to create different things.
After high school, I want to achieve a few things: I want to get into, really, any university. I would love to get into University of Manitoba, or Guelph, but I would really be fine with any university that I would, potentially apply to. I will do this by applying to as many universities as I can, and making sure that I meet all of the requirements for them. I will also need to be prepared for any meet-ups/interviews they may schedule with me. After I am accepted, and have chosen a university (if I am accepted into more than 1), I will work very hard to earn a bachelor’s degree in science (BSc.).
My family has always encouraged every aspect of my life. They inspire me to excel academically and to broaden my interests so I may determine the activities and goals I wish to conquer. Moreover, they are the advocates for me to always strive to become a better person. Academically, the high school I attend has a ratio of eleven students to one teacher and class sizes ranging from 10 to 25 students. This proportion allowed me to become close to my teachers and to engage in my specific aptitudes.
I want to work in the laboratory of intergroup relations and the social mind because of my desire to gain more research experience and because of my passion for the research topics examined in this lab- including social identity threat and intersectional invisibility. In the future, I aspire to attend graduate school for either social psychology or applied psychology and social intervention research. I can contribute the research skills I have developed thus far as well as my passion for psychological research. Through my research at The College of New Jersey, I have gained research specific skills such as developing a theoretical argument that supports my hypotheses’, constructing and conducting a study, acting as an experimenter and interacting
Since I was young, I learned many different good values thanks to my family that always encouraged the promotion of these. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela. I was a part of the school “Colegio Santiago de Leon de Caracas”, where I was able to develop the different values that I possess today. In this stage of my life I learned what responsibility was, and would continue to be one of my mayor values. This value ensured the achievement of my commitments and my goals.
I have been looking forward to attend college for as long as I can remember. To me, college seemed like the start of true adulthood and real life. So naturally, I have been excited about college for a very long time. I am most excited about being able to develop myself fully. I am attending Milwaukee School of Engineering next fall.
Thank you for reviewing my credentials as I apply for a tenure-track faculty position in the mechanical engineering program. I am excited to have this opportunity for the following reasons. Teaching broadly within mechanical, materials, manufacturing and general engineering at all levels, has always been my career goal. My teaching and research interests transcend the 5 areas mentioned in the job announcement. The vast majority of my students have been mechanical engineering.
I have always dreamt of traveling the world, ever since I was young I had a longing to go to lands far away from where I lived. These dreams did not become a reality until I had enrolled in high school. My first year I was given the opportunity to travel to Italy and two years later I was able to travel to Spain. It would be during these trips that I would realize that I wanted to work in the tourism industry. When I searched for majors I realized the major that would best fit me, Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality.
