One of my greatest passions is helping other people, so much that all of my career goals are oriented at making a difference and being a positive influence on others. I have spent the entirety of high school finding ways that my actions alone could have an impact on a single human being, groups of people, and even the entire area I reside in and that led me to my affection for service and volunteerism Through my engagement at school and in the surrounding community, I have learned how incredible it is to do something so meaningful it improves the quality of another individual’s life or helps promote growth and positive change in a town. I have been actively involved within both my school and town throughout all of high school. I became a member …show more content…
As a member of this club, my goal was to contribute to the establishment of an environment where people who were being bullied or abused could feel safe. School should be a safe place where children go to receive an education to further their future, they should not have to fear that they will be verbally or physically attacked and their education hindered due to it. Raising awareness of the importance of combating bullying in school and educating future generations about how harmful bullying is while also helping those who are being bullied was meaningful involvement that could have meant something and resonated with at least one person who would be better off because of …show more content…
Everyone has times when life is overwhelming whether they’re stressed over the due dates of their schoolwork or having problems at home and sometimes the best way to help cope with these situations is to confide in another person to get assistance, guidance, or comfort. My friends have been influential in my life but most of them have had difficult life circumstances they have had to overcome. I am a constant in the lives of my friends, a support system. I am always readily available to offer any assistance to someone I know whether its providing them with words of encouragement when they need the motivation to keep going, reminding them of how important they are and how much potential they have when the depression is hard to manage, helping them through difficult times at home, offering a place to stay or a shoulder to cry on when they just need to get away or break down, or just doing anything they need to help improve their life. Even things as simple as buying lunch for friends who are struggling financially or offering to lend a hand to my neighbors or a member of my community that would benefit from it allow me to feel like I am making a useful contribution to their lives through the help I
What interests you about your selected program of study? Computer science has always been the aspect of study that has grabbed my attention from a young age. CS always created a sense of awe in me because of the fact that individual people, with a firm understanding of CS, could completely manipulate technology into whatever creation they wanted. In the same way an artist can paint on a canvas, computer scientist can create through code and each program carries a sense of the programmer with it. The more you learn about CS the more uses it gains, making it a tool that builds upon itself.
Sport in itself is fun, healthy and rewarding. Although this is my personal view, it is more than likely shared with many more people around the world. I have always had a passion for sport, I was always a very active child and have been into competitive sport for years. My first experience in sports was joining a local martial arts club that taught Tae Kwon Do. I took part in Tae Kwon Do since i was four, I continued to progress and when I turned 11 I gained my black belt, this was my first insight into sports and fuelled my passion and enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Ever since I started High School I have been thinking about my future as a college student and which University I would be able to attend. As I did my research I became interested in the possibility to attend an Ivy League School since I’d like to be immersed in academics during my time in college. I understand that Ivy League Schools provide the best education that sometimes seems unattainable, but I believe that it is possible for me to get in since I dislike limiting myself. Like most people I began doing my research by looking into Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.
I will explore my intellectual and academic interests at the University of Pennsylvania through studying in-depth my different fields of interest. I am applying to the College of Arts and Sciences, where there is a wide range of majors and minors available for me to choose from. Social psychology is a topic that I hope to study because it sparks my curiosity. Psychology interests me because it is intellectually exciting to learn about how the human mind functions.
The attributes of a good systems engineer in the Gentry Lee video encouraged me to think about how capable I would be of fulfilling all of the responsibilities of that job. It also encouraged me to think about how well I work within a team to complete a project or task. Although I meet many of the attributes, I don’t meet them all, and I believe that I may not be suitable for a systems engineering job without some alterations to my personality and habits.
