I was mortified to find out how naive I truly was as I entered my freshmen year of college this past August. I watched weekend after weekend become filled with parties and drunk Instagram posts. With each test, people began to care less and grades quickly plummeted from A’s to C’s and D’s. Knowing how hard I worked to attend my dream college, I would never consider throwing it all away. My weekends in high school were filled with homework, meets, working, and scholarship applications in any spare time. With a disabled Mom and a hard working Dad barely earning enough to support my family of 5, I didn’t waste any time. I applied for over one hundred scholarships my senior year, praying I would be able to earn enough to put towards my first …show more content…
I knew I wasn’t coming from money where Mom and Dad would pay the bill just for me to throw it away at a party getting the “full college experience”. I have continued to work hard toward my dream career while attempting to earn enough money to pay for this expensive journey. One persistent question often begins to intensify the closer you inch towards becoming a high school senior: What do you want to be when you grow up? In kindergarten it’s a dream job, in middle school it becomes a real thought, and in high school it becomes a reality of “I now have to choose”. I chose to major in nursing for a number of reasons including my love for the field of science, making a difference in the lives of others, but most importantly because of one day that changed almost everything about my life. June 5th, 2009, my mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Though the day of her diagnosis is a blur, the defining moments that followed are what shaped who I became as a person and impacted my decision to enter the field of nursing. This was the day my mindset changed: This event influenced my college major more than any business or community …show more content…
She modeled how to not only set goals, but to never give in to failure until you were able to reach achievement. MS taught me that I want to help others with what they are struggling with. Therefore, I chose nursing as the field I want to work in after college.
As I entered nursing, I wanted to be openminded, ready to be challenged, and determined to conquer the many hurdles I will stumble over. Nursing is no doubt a tough route to take and a hard major to conquer and achieve. However, I believe through the perseverance and a strong mind, anything is possible. I am stubborn when it comes to my goals and despite that I know there are many hurdles waiting to stop me in my path, I still plan to jump every one. I deserve this scholarship because I am not living your “typical” college experience. I am laughed at for missing out on the parties, the drinking, and living on campus in a room the size of a shoe box. Instead, I drive to school each morning with a different purpose in mind. I spend hours in the library and in my room completing homework and studying my hardest to receive the best grades I can. I deserve this scholarship because instead of worrying about getting the “college experience”, I’m worried about my future, my goals, and the reason I am at the University of New
My childhood initiated a desire to help prevent and mitigate injury or illness; this soon flourished into an interest in the health care field. To help narrow my choices I explored as many science courses as I could. Talking with health care professionals and reading nursing textbooks I found in my aunt’s house piqued my interest in the nursing field and patient care. From there, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course which further solidified my decision. Now, I am fully invested in becoming a nurse.
As the semester progressed, my surgery, doctor visits, and conversations with the medical staff led me to discover my desire to enter the medical field and become a Nurse Anesthetist. Who would have thought this unfortunate event could have impacted my life this significantly? My goal is to graduate with my Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management, then enroll in the accelerated nursing program to obtain my Bachelor’s
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
Jesse Owens once said, “[w]e all have dreams. But in order to make that dream a reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” The dreams that I have for my life aren’t going happen overnight, they are going to take time, determination, self-discipline, and effort. Along with taking time and effort, I’m going to take my personal qualities and put them to work. I believe I’m a good applicant for this scholarship because I have good work ethic, good relationships with people, but I also have good characteristics including being goal oriented.
I stepped onto this campus with aspirations of being a Nurse one day, with dreams of nurturing those in need of my assistance whenever needed, in clinics and hospitals. Nevertheless, one semester later, I see myself studying abroad one day, representing our school in more than just medical settings, and hoping one day I can give back to this school, if it 's in scholarships, research, or knowledge, what they invested in a small Aggie
Since I only live with my mom,and she just has one job to pay all of our bills, paying for college is far from our minds. Even though my mom has worked hard to give me everything I needed and supported me all my life, she just doesn’t have enough to afford the privilege of me going to college. But with the help of this scholarship, I might be able to get a college education. If I get this scholarship,I promise that I will not leave it to waste. I will apply this scholarship to help me in my first years at TMCC.
I was not born into the world to do everything, but I was born into the world with great intentions; intentions to make a difference, to be an outstanding leader, ambassador, and advocate to serve and give back to the society. Ever since I have known myself, I have always wanted to become a nurse. A hardship that has made me stronger is, after my first semester in the pre-nursing
As I begin my college education, I want to continue doing my best in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a registered nurse. With the scholarship money I can have the peace of mind of solemnly focusing on college. Students who have to work to continue their education have trouble focusing on school and do not have the extra time to study or go to tutoring sessions. In many cases, having to work while attending college usually leads to failing or dropping the class due to extra stress and the idea of income. As well, this scholarship will give me more time to focus on my education and to continue my volunteer work helping the
I am currently an undergraduate at Rowan College at Gloucester County completing my pre-nursing studies. As I was growing up, I always enjoyed the idea of helping and healing others. My inspiration to become a nurse was watching my mother make a difference in the lives of elderly at a local senior living community as an Activities Assistant for years. Even though, she was unable to go back to school due to personal circumstances, the compassion she showed towards others around her was something special as she took care of them as if they were relatives. Whenever I had free time, I would just sit and play a game with the elderly residents hearing their life stories from when they were young.
Introduction: As a first year student I have very specific goals in mind that I hope to achieve through my work in college. My main hopes for the future are that I pass all of my exams in the coming years, graduate and receive my honours degree in general nursing, become a registered nurse and finally get a job as a nurse. Throughout this essay, I have detailed my strengths and the opportunities that will help me finalise these goals along with my weaknesses and the threats that will hinder my progress. Strengths:
I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.
As a nursing student, I have a grasp on what nursing is through textbooks and lectures. The more I learn about this profession, the more I learn about what my philosophy is. Although I haven’t gained clinical experience as a nurse, I have gained some clinical experience as a nurse assistant that helps me administer patient care while acquiring knowledge working under the supervision of nurses. This experience helps me to become knowledgeable on what their roles and responsibilities are, and it has inspired me that I hope when I graduate, to equal their skill, diligence and passion.
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood. There are many reasons why I chose to major in Nursing such as the ability to take care of someone, the money and benefits that the career offered, as well as job stability and flexibility. On of my main reasons for pursing Nursing is the ability to care for someone other than myself.
These factors solidified my career choice of becoming a nurse. The nurses were the ones who give care and assistance to patients who were affected by a virus that they didn’t even know much about. However, they still stayed strong and risked their lives to assist people whose families and community abandon
This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
