I am interested in pursuing my education in obtaining my Master’s in Social Work because I have a strong passion for helping people and I can give back to my community. I have a passion to help others and committed to helping people function the best they can in their surroundings, meaning that I can provide direct services to people in their homes or place of work, helping people through social service organizations, and working towards change to improve social conditions. Like any helping profession, i.e. Doctors, Teachers, etc. Social Work seeks to help people overcome some of life’s most difficult challenges. I want to improve the well-being of people and society.
Occupational therapy practitioners can take on an advocate’s role in order to promote occupational justice and to empower clients ‘‘to seek and obtain resources to fully participate in their daily life occupations” (Maloney, Myers, & Bazyk, 2014). Another area that would be beneficial to know when working with this population are their thoughts on health care. Emerging roles in
I believe that i would enjoy being this type of counselor because I have been around people and even experienced people who needed mental help and family guidance such as myself. The process of becoming a counselor has always been interesting to me. I would love taking classes on learning
Having the trust of the clients helps a lot when trying to figure out how you can help them when they are explaining their situation, they open up to you. If trust is not gained then the communication is affected because the client will not speak openly as if trust was present. * An example of difference in communication and the only thing that came to mind was how social workers advocate for their clients. Being effective social workers to gain the correct information and help their clients’
My life experiences have also developed me into a socially responsible leader. I have personal integrity and want to use my knowledge in order to contribute to the larger society. Using my knowledge in order to make a difference in people’s lives would be satisfying and
The FCM and Clinical Supervisor are open and easy to talk to. Participating in the leadership self-assessments shown I am transformational and servant leader. In this assessment has given me an opportunity to identify my strengths and weaknesses. The assessments have been an eye-opening experience which have led me to develop a deeper understanding of my actions, motives, and values; and how contribute to successful outcomes or negative consequences. Learning about myself through these self-assessments has been an investment in the future of both my personal and professional life.
She told me how hard it is to take criticism from others and how it is important to learn to take it and grow from it. Learning to understand others and step outside yourself is important in setting aside your pride in order to grow to be a better leader. Working on listening to understand instead of listening to reply is vital in your growth as a leader. Hailey was able to give me some advice that really stuck out to me. A leader brings so many new experiences as well as opportunities and it is important to look outside of yourself and do things you wouldn 't otherwise do.
This website displays that there are ways you can help homelessness people from all over the world. I also liked that you can help an individual person because in that way, there is more of a connection with the person. The categories that interested me the most is employment and housing. I find these categories interesting because I deal with both of them in my everyday life. It is important for one to have a job/career so they can also have a space to live in.
I believe that everything in life has a purpose and I think that I was put in the foster care system because helping youths and people is my purpose in life. I feel good helping and empowering people to be the best person they can be and growing up as a young child I always put other people’s needs before myself. It also takes a special person to do this kind of work. A social worker has to be strong, an advocate, and have thick skin. I can’t find a position more suitable for me other than social work because helping people is where I feel
The social work role in mental health is that of the social context and social consequences of mental illness. The purpose of social work practice is to promote recovery, restore individual family and community wellbeing in order to enhance the development of each individual’s power and control over their lives. This will also promote advance on the principals of social justice. The social work practice begins with the individual and then extends to family, social networks, community and the broader society (Australian Association of Social Workers, 2008). Individuals with mental health illness’ seek professional help during difficult times, discrimination and stigma, freedom from abuse, support to recover, getting their own homes and jobs
In social work there is diversity among clients and colleagues and a social worker must know how to adapt in this changing environment. When faced with challenges, I have sought out the support and advice from professors, social workers, and classmates and this has been effective for me. I found that making preconceived notions about others had limited me, but being in this program has given me an opportunity to meet a diverse group of individuals. This opportunity has allowed me to evolve into a better person, but have made lifetime
Another, core values of the NASW code of Ethics is services. Through services, social workers provide services to others. Social workers provide on their knowledge, values, and skills to help people in need and to address social problems (Code of Ethics). Furthermore, social workers can help people in need to reach their full potential through resources. I believe services is important because this is where people in need are provided services to overcome their
