Social work is a career that I have recently become interested in pursuing. I spent many years with misconceptions concerning the sector. However, following three years of working close by these experts, I have picked up a more profound comprehension of the significance of the work.I am especially interested in working in child welfare along with terminally ill children. I have got to a stage in my career where I have started to search out instruction that will make me more efficient in creating plans and providing services for vulnerable people. I am confident that the skills that I will gain from completing a social work master’s degree will help me collaborate with people in need and aid sustainable growth in their lives.
On September 21, 2015, I met with Ms. Katie, a student in the MSW program at NCSU, to conduct an interview. We met at Starbucks in Cary, in the crossroads shopping center. Ms. Katie’s responses helped me learn and think about social workers in the child welfare social field. As a prospective social worker, my questions were formed based thoughts that I have concerning my responsibilities in the social work field.. Before going into further details, I first asked Ms. Katie to tell me about herself.
With Ms. Whittemore, it was an easy process as she was very willing to disclose some of her personal information and insights. For a social worker it is important to stay passionate about your work and always look to learn new things. It is important to know that you are not in it alone. She emphasized that you should keep your personal life and professional life separate, and not let one affect the other. It is also important to help people outside of social work to understand that it is safe to ask for help and that everything is confidential.
Personal Statement Social work by definition means, “any work or service carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those in need of help or welfare”. There are several aspects in my life that motivate me to be a social worker and to perform social work. My uncle motivates me to do social work because he was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a brain disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. His diagnoses enlightened my entire family on how mental disorders can affect a person.
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. Pursuing a master’s in Social Work, will give me the diversity that I need, while aiding me in bringing my dreams of working more in depth with clients, by helping assist them with their individual needs and issues to reality. The Social work field also offers versatility which allows me to work in many dimensions, such as clinical, case management, and many other composites which enables me to help every population. Becoming a social worker gives me other benchmarks in which I can use to evaluate programs,
Autobiographical Statement Social work is important to me because I see there are a lot of problems both systemic and with individual people that need to be addressed through research and clinical work. I want to spend my life working on improving services and quality of life of foster children and their families, supporting the grief and loss process with cultural sensitivity, working to reduce negative prejudice and discrimination, especially when it holds people back from living out their full potential, and understanding and providing needed resources to people who struggle with mental health and disability through evidenced based practice and scientific work. I am also able to implement a range of interventions based on a comprehensive client assessment. I also have the ability to apply social work knowledge and theory to practice using critical thinking in a practice approaches and decisions. It also gives me the ability to engage in social work practice that is sensitive to issues of culture, ethnicity, religion, race, class, sexual orientation, age, gender, and physical and mental abilities. It also instill in me the appropriate and the effective communication skills. I am also able to demonstrate self-discipline, the ability to reflect upon and resolve ethical dilemmas.
They also assume responsibility for the development, implementation, and management of social services that they provide. The social work profession employs the world with skilled workers that use the tools and resources available to them to advance the lives of others. Individuals in this career field are capable of ethical decision making and are advocates for positive social change for the oppressed
Oprah Winfrey points out that “Sometimes you find out what you are supposed to be doing by doing the things you are not supposed to do”. Consequently, her words have been my thoughts in the last couple months as I have realized the purpose of my doing in life as a school social worker. At this point of my career, I have realized my doing in life is to give back to those who are vulnerable and are in need of help which is one of the reasons why I have decided to pursue my Master Degree of Social Work. Typically, some characteristics that a social worker should have are empathy, courage, respect for diversity, and being ethical and flexible.
Social workers have several responsibilities. They have to provide service, justice, and dignity to a client. They have to possess integrity, competence, and patience. Social workers need to possess knowledge of human rights, and how to perform scientific inquiry. Social workers occasionally have cases in which problems ensue and a solution is not found within a certain time frame.
Growing up in a foster home has opened my eyes and my heart to the wonderful world of social work. Ever since I was eight years old, my family has taken in several kids in need of a home and a family. Changing their lives was something I take pride in. There isn’t a better feeling in the world than being able to help someone out in need, protecting and comforting them.
What is Social Care? By social care, we understand various kinds of services and support systems designed to help the needy people. People with certain disadvantages are assisted to become a part of the society. Social care jobs assist them to contribute again to the community.
