Taking them apart, studying them, and then reconstructing them back together was a usual past time for me. Looking back I realized that all of the time I spent on learning how something worked was the foundation that flourished into my passion for engineering.

Rube Goldberg, during his lifetime, was a well known cartoonist who utilized his engineering knowledge within his created drawings. Goldberg’s legacy introduces students to his methods of incorporating extravagant machines that contribute towards completing a very simple task. For instance, Rube Goldberg captured the attention of numerous citizens following a cartoon which used a lengthy chain reaction to merely wipe the characters mouth with a napkin. Thus, complex machines which accomplish simple tasks are called Rube Goldberg machines. Due to Mr. Goldberg’s cartoon and engineering background, Rube Goldberg machines allowed him to create devices that captured the attention of viewers and exercise his physics knowledge.

Blissfully unaware of the impact it would have on me, at age two my parent’s decided to send me to the Montessori school that I attended through sixth grade. This decision would shape the rest of my life, as it put me in an environment where working with my hands was encouraged and I could explore my interests in everything mechanical. My fascination for machines came from an intrinsic desire to understand how things work, so naturally I channeled that interest and the destructive tendencies of a young boy into taking everything apart that I could get my hands on. The discovery of Lego bricks fueled my passion for building and by age ten I was making everything from mechanized octopod walkers to complex construction equipment.

I`m an honor student involved in numerous extracurricular activities. In high school, I was a member of the STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) magnet program. I completed the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pathway and took a wide variety of engineering classes. I also got experience job shadowing’s and explore different activities that prepared me for my future career with activities such as mock interviews and resume writing. During my junior summer in high school, I got the opportunity to intern at a small engineering firm (Infrared Tools LLC) and work side by side with the engineers there getting hands on experience.
After exploring the different wings of Mechanical Engineering, graduate education would be the right place to work and explore my interest specific to Mechanical Designing. A doctoral degree will not only enable me to venture out to different domains in design and analysis but also help to develop myself as an independent individual with a sense of responsibility. I’ll also get to work with like-minded people in a competitive environment conducive to constructive learning. Graduate school also offers positions for research and teaching assistantships which would prepare me for a career in teaching. The research internship at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore has taught me that leaving the comforts of the home country and immersing myself in an entirely new culture will push the boundaries of my capabilities.

Since I was in my childhood I have high curiosity on how and why things work. I have this unsatisfied feeling until I know why and how it 's happening. My dad always told me the same about me. I still remember how I spend the whole day looking for what make the pedestal fan to swing and I opened up its cover to see the motor and gear rotating and for me it 's fascinating. He used to bring me along with him in his nearest four wheel drive park where he taught me many things about four wheel vehicles. What are the differences between 2WD and 4WD, minor vehicles maintenance, and he also bought me a remote control car which he asked me to maintain it by myself and I love it. I realize I 'm very passionate with engineering, mechanical specifically, this is because I think engineering is a very wide discipline and no science theory or ideas will happen without engineering.
