Within a twenty-mile range of Holmes’ home location, there were seven movie theaters in his vicinity; of the seven theaters only one theater had a restriction on concealed carry (Frosch). That theater was the one Holmes targeted. This devastating attack led to the death of twelve victims and left over seventy more severely wounded (Truesdale). In Even though the gunman fired at an unsuspecting crowd, with over 400 individuals the possibility of one citizen having a concealed carry weapon and neutralizing the suspect are much greater. In Holmes’s diary he states that he would not target an airport due to “substantial security” (Frosch).
A majority of these handguns are used for home defense and recreation. Pistols aren’t the only problem but automatic weapons are legal in only a few places and the United States is one of them. It is illegal to hunt with automatic weapons, they are only used for home defense and recreation. Is it worth keeping automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons for home defense and recreation when tens of thousands of people die each year from gun violence? Banning pistols could have the same effect as it did in Australia and reduce the crime rates and
Here are some facts to take into account. In 2017 alone there have been 2,073 deaths caused by guns, 3,552 injuries, 79 of those children, 34 mass shootings, which is usually defined as four or more people dying. So obviously we have an issue, those numbers are really high compared to most countries that are as developed as us. Which is why I don’t entirely lean to no gun control. Another stat I didn’t mention is defensive use, which has been put at 213.
Many anti-gun groups say since 1970 the number of firearms has increased, but forget to say that no murder rates have increased, the proportion of people who did have guns are dropped from 49 percent to 40 percent, but violent crimes rise and fall, so, the number of gun owners has no influence on whether crimes rise or fall. Another report says that every 43 deaths provoked by a gun is more likely to kill a relative than a criminal, but they tend to forget that 86 percent (37 deaths) of 43 deaths, were suicides. The ¨Gun War¨ has been going on for years, everyone has a different view of how weapons should be treated and dealt with. But since the beginning of this country, we have the right to keep and bare arms. There will always be people who try to get rid of guns, and there will always be people who defend guns.
Too many people disregard the risks they are taking when they choose not to wear a seatbelt in a car. Statistically, teens have the lowest seat belt use of any age group, but this also results in teens having the highest death rate in a car crash. According to the CDC on “Motor Vehicle Safety”, “55% of the teens who died in a car accident in 2012 were not wearing a seatbelt” (CDC, Motor Vehicle Safety). Most of these deaths also occurred in states that only have secondary enforcement laws, in which an officer can’t pull someone over for not wearing a seatbelt, but if they are pulled over for something else, they can be ticketed for not wearing their seatbelt on a
If a person got charged with involuntary manslaughter, they would go to jail for up to 16 months. Many people believe that because they are just going a short distance, they do not think wearing a seatbelt is necessary. Experts say that “80 perfect of fatal accidents happen within 25 miles of the home (Pros and Cons of Seat Belts)”. Therefore just because you are only going down the street, you could still get in an accident. It is understandable why some believe that, because you would not think that it could be dangerous.
First and foremost, banning guns will not stop criminals from obtaining and committing crimes with them. Furthermore, guns don’t kill people; people kill people. Lastly, guns prevent the government from becoming tyrannical and oppressive. At first, one may think that banning guns would be a superb solution to the growing problem of gun violence. However, doing this will not stop felons from procuring and committing gun-related crimes.
People who agree believe that no one should be able to own a gun, or that there should simply be stricter gun control laws. Therefore there would be less chance of another shooting to occur. The people that don’t agree believe that they shouldn 't lose their right of owning a gun because of one person’s actions and accidents that they couldn’t have prevented. “The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms and was adopted on December 15, 1791, as part of the first ten amendments contained in the Bill of Rights.” America should have stricter gun control . Gun shop owners should be aware of who they are selling a gun to, and what weapons they are able to purchase.
The second amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Recently, the controversy of guns and gun control has been a huge topic of discussion. In the past few months, there have been multiple shootings, including two popular mass shootings such as the one in Las Vegas and the one at the high school in Florida. Some are saying that all guns should be banned and no one should have guns, and that will result in less homicides and mass shootings. On the other hand, some say that there should not be gun control because of the second amendment, self defense and safety, and how it will not change the amount of violence in the country.
The most recent school shooting has everyone questioning whether guns should be banned or whether we should keep guns in the United States. Most gun owners have guns for protection and to protect their family and themselves. It's weird that only this shooting that happened in florida is being taken seriously but no one took the other school shootings as serious as this one. No one took into consideration that there has been many other shootings and just because only a few kids died so therefor it doesn't matter because only a few kids died. There is many other solutions to stop school shootings and banning guns is not going be the solution.
