Research has proven that curfews do effect crime rates, they lead to less people affected by criminal activity; when an environment helps each other by working together it can help with the production of enforcing curfews (Ward). Curfews exist to help lower crime rates, by having a part of the population inside at a particular time that reduces the people out at night. "Curfew laws and ordinances have been sustained as necessary to control the presence of juveniles in public places at nighttime" ("Curfew"). Charlottesville is a city that has seen a huge drop in the number of teenagers roaming around the area throughout the evening into earliest hours of next day, since the enforcement of curfews (Ward). Cities have seen firsthand that curfews can have a positive effect on a
“Over 190,000 underage people visited emergency rooms for alcohol related injuries in 2008” (“Underage Drinking” 2). This problem can be fixed, however. If the law was changed to 18 and restaurants and bars accepted this age group where mature and responsible drinking is expected, the amount of unsafe drinking activity would decrease. This would also diminish the thrill of breaking the law to get drunk. Normalizing alcohol consumption as something done responsible would make drinking alcohol less of a thrill for young adults entering college and workforce settings.
“Many parents in lower income areas work at night most arguments against it talk about how and are not around to correctly supervise their teenage children.” Police have more say in what happens, others say that it will cause the youth to go elsewhere to be able to hang out with their friends. A curfew is about a teenager understanding that, yes, teens can go out and have fun, but there has to be discipline for their bad actions. Our country isn’t sure if they should have curfews for people because most people are good and they don’t break the laws like other people do. In the article America’s curfew debate it says that “curfews violate the fourth amendment and its protections against unreasonable search and seizure.” Curfews can help stop the crimes and laws being broke but it can also make cops hassle people when they aren’t doing anything wrong and they are just walking home from dinner or even the movies. “13 year old Jose Regalado said as he took a break from an evening basketball game as a Chicago YMCA, he and other teens there complained that police go out of their way to hassle them, even when they’re rushing home shortly after curfew has
Studies show that 72% of teenagers have either extracurricular activities, or work in the evenings after school. Teenagers enrolled in such activities are usually out later than teenagers who are not. Some people believe it would be a good idea to apply a 10 pm weekday curfew and a midnight weekend curfew for teenagers in order to keep them out of trouble, while others believe that would unfairly intervene in young people's lives. A 10 and 12 o'clock curfew would not be a good idea to place on teens, for it would disrupt their evening activities. One reason a curfew would be a bad idea is because not all teenagers are up to no good.
If the speed limit is 65 miles per hour and everybody is going 70 miles per hour but I am going 80 miles per hour. I can get pulled over and giving a speeding ticket for reckless endangerment. The reason why people should not agree with Trippett is because minor laws are mostly guidelines and when people are caught breaking them they will get reprimanded for it. The author had a good point about how everybody breaks minor law everyday, but that is the thing they are minor laws if they are broken it will most likely not do any harm to anyone
We all know why some teenagers drink because it makes them feel that they get away with breaking the law. Consequences for the teenagers can change that but we do not want them to have to experience the consequences of being under the influence of alcohol because if we do they know they are fatal. For example, dying in a car accident and killing one another is already a mess that we do not have to clean up because of a driving under the influence
Alcohol will affect young adults a lot due to the increased risk of health problems traffic accidents. People at 18 years of age are not mature enough to start drinking. In summary, we should raise the drinking age to 21 in Australia. If we were to raise the legal drinking age, we would be able to reduce lots of problems that we concerned
For starters, studies show an increase of dangerous drinking habits among young adults (Hall 2). In addition, the enforcement of the drinking laws and education on alcohol is insubstantial (Moyse, Fonder 3). Society places laws to protect individuals. The rise of alcohol abuse raises the question if the minimum legal drinking age of 21 secures protection of the people. With proper enforcement of drinking laws in addition to education about alcohol, the minimum legal drinking age of 18 provides a safer drinking culture.
In fact, the law may increase the amount of eighteen to twenty year olds who do drink. It has been shown that, especially in college-age students, there is a tendency to not do what they are told, on the contrary, they will do the exact opposite. The problem with the drinking age being twenty-one is that some students drink purely out of defiance). The number of fatalities is down in all age groups, not just teenagers, and cars driven now are much safer than the cars that were being driven in the early 1980’s, and teenagers are much safer drivers, which can be attributed to the decreased amount of fatalities. Also, in other countries that have lower drinking ages, the number of fatalities has
According to the magazine daily news it suggest, “the NYPD Patrol Guide encourages the use of pepper spray for noncompliance (Moskos, 2014).” It seems like it is a less lethal technique, but it is actually still dangerous because people may be allergic to the acidic substance and might end up dying. Overall, the use of force needs to be done, but only when it is 100% necessary or else the community will see it as a violation of the law. If the use of force is being used when it is necessary, people will not be disrespecting the police and protesting police
