Like hotels instead of kennels, braces to fix crooked teeth and other necessities that pet owners believe that they should have for their pet. For example in article “The Last Mewo” the Levering's paid fifteen thousands dollars even if they are in debt, low income, and going through health problem itself. This show us how they use money to save their pets just for few weeks instead of using the money for their own family issues. The money should go to those animals with actual necessities not the ones who are on the verge of death.Animal medicine and veterinary care is becoming pricier; also because our economy is going drastically down, prices of food, clothes, and medication is going up. Bilger believes that rather spending so much money on doing a kidney transplant one’s pet it’s better to put down that pet and stop all that suffering, pain, and wasteful
That expensive costs do not include things like food, habitat costs, and vet trips, which all are very expensive also. Safety is another main concern of having exoic pets. Even if people have had their animals for years they could “turn on you” and attack you when you don’t expect it. Next time you are thinking that you want an exotic pet think of the cost and your personal
Second, many analysis and statistics show that they are located everywhere in an immense amount. According to http://www.petful.com/, among the 50 states, only 26 states have laws regulating commercial kennels. The other 24 states have no laws that puppy mills have to follow. Also, these puppies overcrowd our shelters, causing us to kill more animals in a less amount of time. According to http://www.thepuppymillproject.org/about-puppy-mills/, about 1.2 million dogs are euthanized in shelters every year.
"Pet Overpopulation"). The majority of pets never see their family members again. "26% of dogs are purchased from breeders. 20-30% of cats and dogs are adopted from shelters and rescues, and 2-10% are purchased from pet shops” (PAWS. "Pet Overpopulation").
Pet owners say that they will take care of their pets no matter what. Bilger’s argument is that people’s love for their pets has gone too far. Although Bilger is incorrect because some people use the money to help their pets, he is primarily correct because people spend their money on stuff their pets don’t need and how some pets are forced to endure more than they have to. I concede that bilger is wrong because In “The Last Meow” the Leverings were willing to spend 15,000 dollars on their cat Lady to help her. Shawn Levering said “If Lady comes through this thing alive, I won’t think about it twice.” In other words after the surgery was done and lady was alive and well he would not mind that he spent 15,000 dollars on his cat.
Take that mom and dad! You many think it would be very hard to become an owner of an exotic pet, but turns out it can be easier them getting a dog or a cat. In the article, Wild Obsession, Lauren Slater states “privately owning exotic animals is currently permitted in a handful of states with essentially no restrictions: You must have a licence to own a dog, but you are free to purchase a lion or baboon and keep it as a pet.” due to this lack of registration on exotic animals we have no idea how many are currently in the United States. Slater mentions that there are at least five thousand tigers here in the United States. While some do
Feral cat populations have skyrocketed over the last few decades, and no one can quite agree on what to do about it. The overpopulation of feral cats pose a danger to birds and other wildlife, along with some risks to humans given the diseases they could possibly carry. Both sides agree something must be done about the feral cat population, but the debate comes in what should be done. For years the solution to the problem was to simply kill the feral cats, but the use of TNR, trap-neuter-return, is becoming more popular. TNR offers the option to shrink the population of feral cats, without causing the death of thousands of kitties.
Over 56 billion animals are killed every day for animal testing and meat. Some people call themselves “animal lovers”, but how could they be, when they’re part of their suffering? But if you love and want to help animals, it really does benefit being vegan. There is no difference between a cow and a dog. The only difference is your perspective.
I’m here today to talk about a controversial issue that has been around for a period of time, animal testing. Animal testing using animals in experiments with different chemical substances in everything from medical to cosmetic to determine their safety as well as effectiveness . It’s a problem that has existed since the 3rd and 4th centuries BCE with its merciless methods and painful ways of abusing animals for human demands, but now it’s time for it to stop. Our technology has developed significantly since; therefore, such medieval methods of torturing animals are no longer necessary. Researches have shown that each year, over 100 million animals are tortured and killed in American laboratories alone, including dogs, cats and more; this shows how far out of hand animal testing have gotten.
My goal is to help my community by providing the alternatives to solving the matter of the amount of stray dogs while also lowering the kill rate for those dogs that have not been properly treated or adopted. A big part of the problem lies with the lack of government funds for the animal shelters in Puerto Rico. The government only provides $1.5 million in seed funding to create animal services for all 78 municipalities. All the while these animal shelters are filled to capacity, which means the death rate goes up for these “rescued” dogs so only a handful more can be picked up off the streets. There are about two hundred thousand dogs roaming the streets and neighborhoods along the island.
But on the other hand, most people do it because they accept their pets as another member of their family. For example the story about the Levering’s and their pet represents the problem of people spending large amounts of money for medical care for their pets when kids may go without even basic care. In “The Last Meow” they talk about Lady the cat and her owners, Karen and Shawn Levering. Bilger states that the couple is pretty much in debt, and they are still thinking about their cat before themselves. Despite of making only around $27,000 per year, they are still willing to spend over $15,000 to perform Lady’s surgery (Bilger 2).
Over 2 million dogs end up at U.S animal shelters every year. Poor behavior from dogs being lonely and/or not getting enough exercise is a prominent reason for owners surrendering their dogs to shelters. In 2013, a study was executed that showed that 65% of owners who left their dogs at shelters said it was because of their dog 's bad
This enables the pet to stay in it’s home instead of being given away because the medical treatment is too expensive. Through the community pet food pantry, The Blue Ridge Humane Society is able to feed around 200 local pets. Many people who has fallen on hard times will surrender their pets to shelters. People can avoid the stress and heartache by receiving food from the pantry. The Blue Ridge Humane Society 's top priority is educating local pet owners on the importance of spaying and neutering.
Obesity is a serious problem in pets. It can lead to hip trouble and take years off your pets life. Table scraps are definitely not a healthy diet. Your dogs diet should consist of a high-quality food specially designed to meet your pets dietary needs. Only supplement a high quality diet when recommended by your vet.
A downer is an animal that collapses from poo health and unable to stand back up. Although some downed animals can be terminally ill the majority often require just hydration and rest, but instead farmers condone their slow and painful death. On estimation there are about 200,000 downed cows that die every year. In the majority of America’s states it is legal and common to let downers die of exposure over a span of a few days or toss live downers into dumpsters to die. In upper state New York, specifically Watkins Glen, a farm called Farm Sanctuary exists.
