When I come home, it is all on my back,” she says. Students like Jasmine have way more homework than they should have, which can greatly impact their lives. Many simple things in kids lives are affected because of too much homework. If homework was to be cut down, student’s lives would change in jerasticly in good ways. Middle school teachers should give students less homework.
Whether it helps us or not it still puts a huge amount of stress on us as the school year goes on and we get more homework. Many teens already have enough on their plate with getting good grades, working if they have a job, and extracurricular activities. Kirkwood High had noticed more students were seeking counselors for emotional and social help towards the end of the school year, so they started to give no homework on weekends to relieve students and teachers of stress. The students seeking the counselors for emotional
If you take too much, they can kill you. If you take the right amount, you’ll get better,”(Reilly). This illustrates that schools need to talk to their students and find the happy medium for homework and do what 's right for the majority of the minors. The time consuming assignments are taking away many childhoods across the globe, and no one wants that, do
In the article, “Should your School get Rid of Sports,” by Tim O’Shei, it states that when someone plays sports that person's stress decreases (12). Also in the article he wrote, “you're exhausted from homework and then you realized that you will have track practice tomorrow, Thank Goodness,”(12). This is evident because many kids that doesn't play sports have stress, then when they do activities like basketball and football there stress decreases. Clearly, kids have less stress when they play sports and it helps them to test and huge assignments because they are letting their stress go down by doing activities. When students go watch their school team play, whether it is football, basketball or softball they go wild when their team does something good like score a basket.
Waking up early affects teenagers’ social life, mentality, physical being, and academic career. A study has proven that lack of sleep will affect a teenagers’ life in a negative way, “Overtime, not obtaining enough sleep can hurt student’s healthy, safety, social life, and school career.” (National Sleep foundation 1) Due to teenagers naturally not being able to fall asleep till later in the night and forcing students to wake up severely early in the morning for school, they are exhausted. A recent study shows that students are tired throughout their school day, 60% of children under 18 say that they are tired throughout the day (National Sleep Foundation 1) As Brunswick students are exhausted throughout their day and it is showing that by the grades from students. The Board of Education needs to take these studies and facts seriously so they can help provide an intelligent and responsible new
One study found that kids in early elementary school received about three times the amount of recommended homework. Homework should be eliminated because it can negatively impact mental health and because it can limit students time with family and activities. It is all too apparent that homework must be cut since it can adversely influence mental well-being. According to the article“Stanford Research Shows Pitfalls of Homework” by Clifton B. Parker,89% of students reported homework was a stressor. 56% of students considered homework as a primary source of stress.
Many schools across the United States start school before 8:30AM, which is not only unhealthy for teens but it can also be dangerous. FIrst of all, almost all teenagers in the United States do not get the required amount of sleep they need in order to focus throughout the day. According to the website startschoollater.com The average American high school starts at 7:59AM (page 1). It is important for students in middle and high school to get about 9 hours of sleep each night. Starting school later can increase scores on tests and help kids do better in classes throughout the day.
Homework is a term used to describe assignments given to students by their teacher to be completed outside regular class period. Some people say that homework is necessary for student success, but it actually has no academic benefits and has negatively effects on children life; therefore, it must be abolished. In order to support my view, I did research on two articles “End Homework Now” (2001) by Etta Karlovac and John Buell and “Moving with the Brain in Mind” (2000) by Eric Jensen both articles display that the negative effects of homework outweigh its positive effects. Furthermore, the articles discuss how smaller class size, by engaging students in great variety of exercises, impact their overall moods and ability to learn. The main
They will be extremely stressed and anxious about graduating and about not being able to complete 75 hours of community service. Also people in power at places that offer community service could be cruel to the students and cause them to be mentally unstable. This affects students performance in school. Additionally, many people believe that it is not that much to ask of students. In reality, students go to school for 8 hours, then goes to work or an extracurricular activity, then goes home to complete an extensive amount of homework that has them staying up late into the night.
First of all, without teacher assistance at home, the chances of making mistakes increase. Frustrated by mistakes resulting from not having any teacher guidance at home, students may feel stressed and anxious. Making mistakes can additionally cause students to feel like they are stupid and can cause students, who already dislike school, to dislike it even more. Also, homework takes away valuable time from other commitments that students have. Some students have part-time jobs and family responsibilities to fulfill.
Schools should start later because students need their sleep. Researchers, studies, and sleep scientists show that schools that are starting early are affecting the lives of students. Students are too tired to get up in the morning and some some sleep in class do to lack of sleep. Teens that drive to school get into accidents due to barely any sleep at night. Students should have to go to school later because then there wouldn’t be as much of a problem.
If this is the case, homework can be a stressor instead of a motivator. If bombarded with lessons at school and even at home, children might lose interest and worse, dread school days. This is a concern that bothers some parents and even educators.” With all these other activities from school, both academic and extracurricular, students, specifically the younger ones, are already tired when they get home. Having to solve difficult math problems, mesmerizing long lines or read several chapters can be tiresome for them. Not only will they end up staying up late but they might not be
