It is not intended for people to abuse it and spend it on illegal activities that can worsen their health and ruin the lives of other around them. People who give their money to welfare want to see the money be put to proper use. This task is nearly impossible while they’re drugs involved. Getting people out of bad habits/harmful activities should be a large goal for welfare. The idea of drug testing welfare recipients came from the idea of not wasting taxpayers money (Cunha).
Conclusion: Marijuana is not like a cigarette because marijuana have intoxicating effect. And it can cure a disease. Pain is the main reason people ask for prescription (Barth Wilsey, 2013, par.5) it could be from headaches, a disease like cancer, or a long term condition. Like glaucoma or nerve pain.
During this time period, anti-tobacco activists were just starting to make claims that cigarettes were bad for your health and because older people were already hooked on the products, the cigarette companies needed to convince the new smokers to either start or to continue smoking. Therefore they used a member of society who everyone listens to and trust for health advice, a doctor, to persuade readers to start smoking Camel cigarettes. I believe that this advertisement does successfully appeal to the audience because if what is stopping people from buying cigarettes is the health risks, then the doctors endorsing the product eliminates that risk. Since Camel is also the brand most trusted by doctors, the audience is more likely to purchase from that brand over
Abstract In this research paper, there will be discussions between legalizing marijuana and medical marijuana. For each side of the argument there will be pros and cons. This research supports the legalization of medical marijuana and marijuana in general. Medical marijuana which is less harmful than most other legal tobacco products and has the ability to reduce the pain within sick people.
For many years scientists have conducted studies about marijuana and the different effects that it has on the mind and body. “Marijuana smoke can cause many
Legalizing marijuana WILL improve one’s economy. This is because the government won’t have to spend money on building jails and treatments for marijuana use. However, without punishments, how will one learn what’s right and what’s wrong? If marijuana is legalized, and there are no more special treatments for marijuana overdose, then what will happen to those that are in need of a treatment?
Cigarette packs also have pictures of the harmful effects of smoking, such as, throat cancer, miscarriage. Schools are also encouraged to have smoking cessation interventions so that adolescents will not pick up smoking, instead of thinking that they can quit anytime. While Singapore has all these policies and prohibitions in place, it has been found that it does not make that big of an impact on individuals that smoke (Subramaniam et al., 2015). Subramaniam and colleagues (2015) found that social influence played a central role in the initiation of smoking, and that adolescents with family members that smoke, are more likely to pick up the habit. In the study conducted by Subramaniam and colleagues (2015), it was reported that instead of caring about the environment, or others, the participants felt that they were being disrespected, and judged
It is important that current smokers have proper programs designed to help them quit smoking. Banning smoking only helps the people that do not smoke while ignoring the fact that many people are heavily addicted to tobacco. Another way that the plan is successful is because it reduces student exposure to smoking. In a study done by Dr. Amanda Fallin, found that “past 30-day smoking was highest (19%) among students on campuses with designated smoking areas…compared to 10% to 12% on campuses with other policies” (Fallin et al., 1098). With designated smoking areas instead of a smoking ban, the overall number of students that smoke is nearly double that of campuses with smoking or tobacco bans.
Profit and money are the driving factors behind so many things, that people are not very motivated to eradicate something that earns them billions of dollars. Yes, legislation such as those to reduce secondhand smoke positively affect health outcomes, but I feel it is not enough. Tobacco is a legal substance despite its known negative, sometimes fatal repercussions. There is a plethora of research regarding the deadly and harmful effects of smoking and cigarette use, yet it is a legal substance used by millions. I think that the government needs to forget the profit aspect and focus on its citizens health.
Ask your friends and family for their support whenever you see yourself giving up to that cigarette pack. They will keep you in high spirits and ensure that you make it till the end. Whatever your excuse may be for adorning this evil habit, this column will make you realise, it is not worth it. No matter at what stage of addiction you are, it is still possible to retreat and fight against rapid aging, which is caused by smoking.
Marijuana is not only seen as a drug, but seen as a vital medication. To some people, it’s used as a cure. They don’t use it to get “high” or to relive their teenage years, but they use it to keep themselves out of pain and suffrage. Some patients spend hundreds of dollars on medication
Heroin is a problem that won’t go away anytime soon, but if we work, we can try to eliminate it from our community. We must try to inform everyone of the dangers of heroin so they know to avoid them. We also need to work on keeping prescription drugs in a safe place, and if they aren’t being used, we need to dispose of them as soon as possible at our local police station. To conclude, the heroin epidemic is caused by the lack of information on heroin and the price of heroin compared to prescription
I think that doctors should give patients more information when prescribing opioids to patients. Many people that just had a painful surgery take opioids to stop their pain and then shortly get addicted after from taking the pills, I believe people would not get as tempted, and feel like it is ok to take opioids, if they knew they were highly addictive. Allen, a recovering addict, had to research her symptom to find out why she was having this temptation to take these pain killing pills when she was not even in pain. Allen’s doctor never told her about the danger of these “painkillers” but once Allen found out, she was concerned about herself, and knew she was addicted and in
It is important to recognize the possible negative impacts of widespread use on public health and safety so that effective regulatory policies can be written. Because the mental impairment caused by the drug THC is well known, it will be non-controversial to legislate against “driving while stoned” and use of marijuana while on the job. However, secondhand smoke presents another way for increased marijuana use to harm public health that may be less obvious to policy makers. (Matthew) Marijuana has several effects on the cardiovascular system.
In conclusion, it is no secret that marijuana has not always been given a positive image, but cannot be ruled out as a medicine. Marijuana could potentially treat many illnesses and may even some day cure cancer. Medical Marijuana should be legalized for those who are responsible and could greatly benefit from its medicinal
