Animal shelters
Where do abandoned animals go? Sometimes they stay on the streets but other times if pounds and animal shelters think they could be adopted they take them to the shelter. There are many types of shelters some are good some are bad, even if it sounds good like a “no kill” shelter it might be still be bad and most “no kill” shelters have a long waiting list so the animals might be on it for a long time.
According to PETA most shelters have workers who are professional and caring. At these shelters, sick and injured animals receive treatment, or if they are terribly injured or ill the workers end their suffering peacefully by euthanizing them. The animals’ living quarters are clean and dry, and the workers don 't ignore them, but help the pets when they have an emotional or physical need. These shelters don’t turn away animals because it is cruel and leaves the animals in danger, Where instead of turning away unadopted or unadoptable animals they euthanize them if their conditions are really bad. An example of what can happen to animals being refused from an animal shelter is the story of a dog from Pennsylvania: the dog’s owner tried to get his dog into a no-kill shelter but his dog got refused so he put his dog in his pickup truck and at the next intersection he threw the dog out of the truck and ran him over, the dog got crushed by the tires, and the dog later died and the shelter workers gathered his remains. There are many other cases like this but even if the animals are accepted it is not much better, animals are caged for months, years or the rest of their lives, as animals are caged they became more withdrawn, depressed, or aggressive every day which makes their chances of adoption smaller. The conditions are so poor they are sometimes considered
In the Blue Ridge Humane Society, they will spay and neuter your pet for free. This is a no kill pet shelter, and they take animals that do not have a home, and takes good care of them until someone would like to adopt them. Unwanted and abused animals need help and that is when the Blue Ridge Humane Society takes care of them. People do not understand how many dogs, cats, and other animals there are that do
However, if you adopt from a shelter or a similar institution, the welfare of the dog matters to the people at the shelter, and they are happy to answer questions and give advice on how to keep a happy home. Plus, some actually check in after a month or so, provide preliminary health insurance, and other benefits. SIDE NOTE It's a common misconception that pets end up in shelters because there is something wrong with their health or behavior. The reason is usually more related to a person's circumstance: a divorce, a big move, or financial hardship.
Animals that are not adopted are kept in shelters until they find a home.
According to Jennie Baxla of the SICSA organization, SICSA gives their animals significant amounts of care while they are under their responsibility. The animals at no-kill shelters such as SICSA receive copious amounts of care, such as “spay[ing] and neuter[ing], microchipping, vaccinations, [and] tests for parasites” (Jewell). These no-kill shelters are incredibly dedicated to their work and animals. Additionally, the pets that receive care at no-kill shelters also receive human interaction. Multiple volunteer activities exist at no-kill shelters across the nation that involve people from all ages interacting and playing with the animals (Baxla, Jewell).
There is a negative stigma which follows certain breeds of dogs. Pit bulls for instance, are considered as a dangerous breed. In some cities such as Miami, they are banned and in many shelters, pit bull breeds are amongst the first to get euthanized. What people fail to realize is that dogs’ temperament is indicative of their owner and the care and training they are given.
Once an animal is bought at an animal shelter, they money from you goes straight to the original puppy mill without you knowing. When an animal shelter doesn?t have enough room for all of their animals, they turn to putting them down or letting them free. In often times, no kill shelters are the ones who let these poor animals go. (Vanden Brook) In this speech I?ve told you about how to stop these awful puppy mills from continuing to scam you.
Firstly, any new animals dropped off in the shelter system can skip the entire stressful process of shelter life and go right to you. Secondly, taking in that animal that needs an extra boost to understand what it is like to be in a loving home environment, something that they may not have been able to receive in the shelter, may turn an “unadoptable” pet around. Animals who have been shown this kind of love and appreciation after their hardships, I believe can make the best pets around. I have personally fostered a kitten named Twizzler and it was such a rewarding experience to both myself and to her since she is now adopted. Additionally, I got to become more involved with the community as I am now an official member of Conrad’s Strays and have even been invited to multiple fundraiser events and adoption fairs to help more animals in need.
Don't Shop, Adopt! Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to consider adopting a pet from a shelter instead of buying one elsewhere. Central Idea:
Which is to adopt from your local animal shelter! Close with Impact: How would you feel if you were left on the streets, cold, starving, and had no one to care for you? By adopting your new pet from the Humane Society you will provide it with a loving home and you will also give another animal the hope of finding that wanted companionship that they’ve been missing their whole life. • Why wait?
They are unlikely to be adopted, unlikely to be loved. Forced to just sit and wait for a lifetime, a cough announcing their death, a whimper calling their descent into despair. This is the unfortunate truth for shelters; shelter animals did not choose this life, so why should we make them live it? There is a common saying a quote first voiced by Karen Davison that fits the situation beautifully, “Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” One does not even have to adopt to change the world for an animal, doing a simple task, as simple of one as taking a dog outside and walking it; that will make all the difference.
This leaves the dogs traumatized and rethinking who they should trust.” If you adopt it’ll help a dog live the life it’s always deserved. About 4 million cats and dogs are euthanized each year because there simply aren't enough willing homes to adopt them. Since there is an overpopulation, animal shelters urge owners to spay or neuter their pets to exclude overpopulation. Also, It’s more
The canines are considered as part of the family members more than as a domestic animal nowadays in most families. The bond between the animals and humans are inseparable. However, according to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), there are approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized in every year (ASPCA, 2017). This implies that animal euthanasia is a controversial issue nowadays. There are several reasons the animals are euthanized and it depends on each case.
Rights are against the use of force and they are our primary if not only our means of survival. There is only one fundamental right: To live successfully, a man has to make his own choices as well as animals too (Roleff,2014,p.33). There is a huge difference between giving animals their rights which is less than human beings and not to give them rights at all. Nowadays animals are presented in many places of entertainment such as zoos and cruces as well as aquariums where the audients pay a lot of cash to watch fun and exciting things going on, it sure makes us happy but what about the animals are they happy too? Are places of entertainment appropriate for wild animals to live in it normally?
Imagine coming home after a tough day and being greeted at the door by your furry four-legged friend wrapping itself around your legs with a smile from ear to ear. There is no doubt that pets bring about bundles of joy, but dogs also provide stress relief, motivation to get active, lessons on responsibility, as well as another reason to smile on a daily basis. We all want the best for our kids; it is obvious that owning a dog has never-ending positive impacts on a child’s life. Owning a dog reduces stress, teaches responsibility, encourages exercise, and provides unconditional love to our beloved children.
Not all animal shelters have pristine condition. Sometimes animal shelters exhibit themselves as a malodorous, dirty, and unsettling environment for animals to inhabit. Euthanasia is frequent at shelters like this. Other ways that animals end up in shelters include animal cruelty, behavioral issues, moving, people life experiences, overpricing, and not enough time.
