“A good deed done to an animal is as meritorious as a good deed done to a human being, while an act of cruelty to an animal is a bad as an act of cruelty to a human being” (“Animal Abuse Sayings and Quotes”). The frequent occurrence of animal abuse is shocking. The recurrence of animal abuse is no surprise. Animal cruelty happens in many different ways and is very common nowadays. If a human being endures beatings and neglect intentionally from another human being, the story can bring tears to one’s eyes. It seems many people find it an exception if the being that experiences the abuse is replaced with an animal. The blind eye that society turns plays a significant role in making the problem more prevalent. If humans could better understand and prioritize the non-existent voice of animals, then the recurrence of animal cruelty crimes could be on the path to dropping. The lack of urgency to help animals is also apparent in law enforcement. There are too many animal abuse cases today where the criminal’s penalty being insufficient compared to the severity of their actions. This displays the inconsiderateness shown towards animals and ultimately results in the crimes being repeated as there is no regard or mercy shown to save the animals. This disregard of the life a vulnerable creature such as a dog demonstrates the disregard for life in general. Those who want to see a change must become that voice, to speak and bring others into the light that animals are beings
In Jeremy Rifkin’s article, “A Change of Heart about Animals”, proves his statement that many of our fellow creatures also “feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love..”. I agree that animals share similar feelings as us, and I believe that they should be treated in a way that they can feel comfortable and care in their surroundings. Just because animals may not be completely the same as us, that should not give the right to a human to mistreat and abuse of an animal’s life. Animals can be well treated and cared for without giving them the right to be treated as a human.
Every day, there are hundreds of incidents where animals are abused, tortured, and taken advantage of by humans. Animals are bred for the sole purpose of profit in many cases, such as animal testing and use of animal goods. While those who eat animals should not be frowned upon, one should put in effort to purchasing animal goods that were humanely raised, and one should not support the buying of products produced by animals shoved into cages so small that it cannot turn around or even live comfortably. One recent example of this cruelty could be found within the Hermes fashion company, where baby alligators are slaughtered for the sole purpose of making a watchband to fulfill the vanity of humans. Humans are given authority over animals, but this does not allow anyone the power to abuse animals for the purposes of fulfilling vanity and making
Animal Ethics- Pro Animal Research There is a large number of people who would disagree with the statement that “Animal testing is very beneficial” but what these people don’t realize is that without animal testing we wouldn’t have all the medical advancements that we have today. Animal testing has made a huge impact on our daily lives and will affect our future to come. According to Alec Baldwin, “One cannot be ‘single issue’ when it comes to medical research.” Baldwin’s mother is apart of the Breast Cancer Research Fund, she stated that “This year, approximately 182,800 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and approximately 40,800 women will die from breast cancer.”
With each passing day, there is unfortunately another dog cruelty case reported on television or posted on the Internet. These pet companions known as dogs are the most common victims of animal abuse and are “accounting for 64.5% of all documented cruelty cases that are media reported” (“Dog Abuse”). Most individuals only define dog abuse as “deliberately inflicting pain or simply the failure to take care of the animal” (“Animal Abuse”). However, as the United States’ population of “man’s best friend” increases up to nearly 80 million, so does the different forms of abuse (“Pets by”). There are countless other types of exploitation including: intentional torture, organized abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, experimentation, puppy mills, greyhound
Increasing the severity of animal abuse by giving more prison time and harsher punishment can cut back on crimes such as dog fighting and greyhound racing, which brings drugs, violence and gambling to the areas they are in (Wyoming Tribune-Eagle). With dog fighting being only a misdemeanor and not a felony, the police don 't have the resources or time to put into it to investigate reported cases of it, and with the sentence being so minor, those who make a living off of fighting and racing dogs view a short 6 month sentence and a minor fine as just a sacrifice for the money. It has also been proven that people who harm animals for fun are most likely to move on to larger targets, like humans in the future. Keeping these offenders in prison for a longer time, would place them in a monitored environment for an extended period of time where mental instabilities can be picked up and taken care of before they hurt someone or something else. A lack of laws and regulations also makes it extremely easy for an animal offender, like a dog fighter, to obtain a new animal so that they can continue their abusive
Animal abuse is displayed in the novel Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen by describing the animal’s living conditions and how the trainers treat them compared to circuses in current society. Passive animal cruelty is an indirect way of animal abuse,
These cruelty laws should be re-written to better protect the lives of innocent animals and the possible danger to other humans who might become a future victims of these people whose abuse often transcends to the abuse of people. The History of the
These captured animals may have tags on one ear, have a piece of an ear cut off or dyed, and are kept tied up and abused (US, Public Health Service 192). Moreover, it is known that when pet animals bite a child, or become violent, they are put down, or are sent to a pound, which is equivalent to taking away their freedom. These animals therefore get removed from the general public, just in the same way that criminals became slaves and were kept together, separated from society (More 30). Hence, More believed that when humans gave into their violent tendencies, they should be treated like animals, but if they followed the rules of society and did not commit crimes, they were allowed the privileges that humans do, like freedom, and maintained the intelligence that made us better than animals
Many animals suffer and go through pain, but most people do not know the cause of it. Animal cruelty is a serious problem that is not widely known about. In many ways, there is a lack of awareness about animal cruelty, which means that education is the key to preventing more cases. There is a lack of education about caring for domestic animals that foster passive animal cruelty and makes animal cruelty an under reported crime. Finally, the lack of awareness means that some countries do not have the proper legislation to deal with animal cruelty as a crime.
Conducting research on animals for human purposes is something that has been practiced for centuries. However, this topic has become extremely controversial after numerous loud outcries from animal rights organisations such as well-known PETA, Mercy For Animals, In Defence of Animals, and many others. Society has become aware of some spine-chilling and alarming statistical analyses which show that only in the US, more than 25 million animals are used for testing purposes on a yearly basis. Such insight divided the world on those who accept the sacrifice of animals for the sake of enhancing human lives, and on those who are completely startled by the sheer cruelty and lack of humanity in the 21st century. And yet, it is difficult to be completely biased and think we should stop animal testing once and for all.
Animal Cruelty Have you ever wondered how much atrocious animal treatments are occurring around the world? The average number of animal abuse cases reported in the media each year is 1,920 according to a study conducted this year by Statistic Brain Research Institute. Moreover, a lot of animals struggle around the globe because they are often beaten, neglected and hunted, which forces them to fight for survival. Helpless animals continue to be exploited by humans and are still constantly being robbed of their lives. Thus, animal cruelty is the killing, exploiting and neglecting the needs of animals that are causing extinction and nonessential suffering.
Because there is still animals abuse, hunting for fun or sport, zoos and deadly experiments that they are put through everyday that they do not deserve, animals are not treated how they should be. Animals should have a bill of rights to make sure they are treated fairly. This doesn 't mean we should stop eating them or anything like that, just that they should be treated well during the time they are alive, they shouldn 't be taken away from their families at a young age and kept in a cage throughout their whole life like Tilikum from the documentary
Animal Cruelty “The idea that some lives matter less is the root off all that is wrong with the world” –Paul Farmer. Animal cruelty is when you cause harm or suffering onto an animal for any reason other than self-defense. This includes neglect or violence against animals. Using animals for entertainment or sports is also considered animal cruelty.
Animals are being abused everyday and they are not taken into consideration when you see them being abused. They are suffering and they are being abused everyday and you all need to stop it. Animal cruelty is not something that just goes away the person doing it will keep doing it until someone stops them. Everyone needs to stop animal abuse and if everyone starts to make a difference others will to. Animals need help with this and everyone needs to help them.
Every year around one million animals is abused or killed in connection with domestic violence. But what if they always have abused that poor animal? Animals should also have right just as humans. If bring up the penalty for animal abuse will people learn? Would it teach them not to harm them?
