“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” (Albert Einstein) A teacher’s job is not only to educate their students on core curriculum, but to encourage them to be themselves by using their creative abilities. Art programs in K-12 schools give students a chance to express themselves without being judged by their intelligence. Some students feel as if they do not belong in school because they are not able to participate in art programs. Budget cuts throughout American school districts are happening more than ever and effecting Art Education in 80% of US schools (Vargas). When art programs are provided within a school, students are more likely to enjoy their education and go through until graduation. Studies have shown that students’ grades will improve in core classes if they have the opportunities to participate in art education based classes. Art programs can help improve brain development in children which will improve their education and intelligence later in life. Art education courses can include anything between music, dance, drama, and art (Metla). These classes all allow children to use their abilities within schools and connect with other students. When students connect with each other through art courses, they will feel more comfortable in school, and are more likely to graduate.
