They believe that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ whom they believe is the savior of the world. For that reason they routinely include Christian symbols and phrases into any decorations they put up for the holiday. Many feel it is their right, and some would argue it is their duty to do so. This is mainly due to the fact that Christians are taught they must not be ashamed of what they believe and they must tell others about their beliefs. They feel they must share what the Bible tells them is the truth so that others will convert to Christianity and be saved from going to
Many people vary on which Christmas tree that they like more- artificial or real. I am not an expert on trees, I do know the types and what the needles or what leaves look like. However, on this matter I have to lean toward the artificial trees. There are a number of reasons to get an artificial over a real tree, one being that one would never have to buy another tree again. Americans spend over $1 billion dollars on trees every year, Artificial trees would nearly eradicate the billion dollar crisis.
I decided to read The Chanukkah Tree because I wanted to learn more about the Jewish culture and religion. The identity group that the book depicts are men, women, and children who are Jews. The Chanukkah tree is about the people of Chelm who were tricked by a peddler into buying a Christmas tree by stating that the tree was a Chanukkah tree from America. The people of Chelm were excited and started to decorate their Chanukkah tree using candles for light, latkes, a door of the synagogue, which has a Star of David carved on it, and dreidels. When they found out that the peddler lied to them, they later realized the beauty of the Chanukkah tree.
"Tree." Tree? It's too easy. I learned how to draw a tree in second grade. I reach in for another piece of paper.
The tree is a place where Gene and Finny can be themselves and do as they please. It symbolizes the freedom and joy of youth, and it represents a time of innocence and simplicity. The tree is a place where the boys can escape the pressures of school and war and be carefree. However, as the story progresses the tree becomes more of a grim and darker symbol that helps to signify the darker tone of the novel. As Gene grows more and more jealous of Finny and thinks that finny is secretly his enemy acting as a friend.
In his memory, the tree is a “huge lone spike”(13) or an “artillery piece”(13), but when he sees it again it looks small and innocuous. Though the tree itself has not changed, Gene's perspective, which has changed over the years, is what is enabling him to face the tree without it haunting him. At the time of the incident, in his youth, the tree was a symbol of fear and forbidding. At the end of the novel, the tree has become a symbol of profound changes in perspective that time and growth can give people. “This was the tree, and it seemed to me standing there to resemble those men, the giants of your childhood, whom you encounter years later and find that they are not merely smaller in relation to your growth, but that they are absolutely smaller, shrunken by age….”(14).
Each year we made a different craft that grandma had planned. From painting ornaments and holiday sweatshirts, to making our own snowmen. After we finished our crafts, it was time to decorate the Christmas tree. That tradition is one of my most fond childhood memories, and will most likely be something that I carry on with my grandchildren someday. Carrying on traditions are, for the most part, something that we as people just go along with because our ancestors have carried it down.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year. It is when we all show appreciation for each other by giving gifts. I myself would like some gifts from you. After all, there are things I do not have that I want. So, I present to you the present I want for Christmas.
The reason why this is very important, is it serves two purposes, the first being that the family might sell the tree for no reason at all. But the second reason it is so

Laurie Halse Anderson uses the tree as a motif to trace Melinda’s growth from someone who is afraid and depressed to someone who is strong and more stable. In the beginning of the story, we can tell that Melinda is very depressed despite her internal sense of humor. Since the party that she called
“Mom and Dad smiled at each other and laughed. It was a sound that Tree hadn’t heard from them in the longest time” (132). This shows how Tree wasn’t sure his parents were ever going to get along again, but they end up having a good time. This is an example of how family matters most and hope is always around. This situation gave Tree strength to preserve.
