Plenty of placements are also done if the child is initially placed in short-term care but needs to be moved to long term. However, the more changes a child experiences decreases the chance of them returning home or being adopted. There are many children that are stuck in the foster care system because they do not have a biological family or an adoptive
Life is composed of a bunch of different events, some great and some not so good. For all of the orphans in the world, most of the events in their life fall into the not so good category. Imagine losing your parents and being put into a system you have no control of. In, The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline, she explains the how the system The Children’s Aid Society set up worked. They had very good intentions but unrealistic expectations, most of the kids were placed into bad homes and had to go to multiple new homes until they found on that was good for them.
Childhood is generally associated with an age of innocence and a time without serious problems or worries. However, for thousands of children in America, this innocence has been taken away from them. Instead of having time to learn from their mistakes and develop naturally, they are placed in an environment that is harmful to their growth. Currently, in the United States around 60,000 children and teenagers under 18 are incarcerated and around 10,000 are in adult jails (“America’s Addiction to Juvenile Incarceration: State by State”)(Lahey). These children go through very different experiences than their peers outside jail walls, face many challenges during their time in jail, and have difficulty adapting upon release.
In the beginning of the 1900s, social agencies started to supervise foster parents. This was the beginning where children’s needs as individuals were considered when placements were made. Foster care is a system of institutions, group homes, and private homes for abandoned, maltreated, and orphaned children. Placement in foster care is a solution to the care problems of children whose parents are unwilling, unable, or judged by the legal system as unfit to care for them. Foster care is unfavorable to American society, because “according to national statistic 40 to 50 percent of those children will never complete high school.
Many adults are left with ptsd, but what about kids, if these experiences can leave adults debilitated, what about the children. Children’s brains aren’t fully developed, so it can become much worse, which is why child soldiers should be given help instead being prosecuted. “More than half of the country’s health facilities are out of service, water facilities have been destroyed and more than 15 million children are in need of water and sanitation facilities.” In desperate times people may do desperate things, as long as the survive, people will do anything; same goes for children. Another example of requiring aid involves a child soldier, Omar Khadr, held at Guantanamo Bay. “They will never see the video of his interrogation by Canadian intelligence agents where he is lying on the floor crying for his mother.”(Andrea Prasow).
Kids and adults are often left alone or kicked out of there homes. I want to help the children, adults, and any other person that is homeless, that is the biggest accomplishment that I want. The children who have no family are mostly the ones that are homeless. There are many reasons to why a kid could have no home. Many kids in other counties are left alone or with relatives, but maybe they have to be left because their parents had to go find a better job or because they needed to find better living
Studies show that black boys are the least likely to be adopted and often "age out" of foster care at 18.” (Source E).Some kids are not fortunate to leave the foster care system because of controversial beliefs; therefore they live in these unsafe environments until they turn 18 and leave. These opinions also cause for more and more children of color to be in the systems, resulting in increased difficulty in adoptions. There are numerous amounts people with strong opinions and beliefs on whether a transracial adoption should be allowed, while others have no
Children are not permitted the same rights and responsibilities an adult has. A child doesn’t have the same standards as an adult has. A good example is children don’t get to join the military as an adult could they must be 18 years and older to join the military. Teenagers don’t make the same decisions as an adult would. “With appropriate treatment most children who commit crimes, even the most violent crimes, can be rehabilitated and become responsible adults.”(Berger) The reason why is because their brains are still changing they are still going throw a change they are still growing.
Foster kids never really get a break until they are adopted by a loving family. Sadly, they usually are more unfortunate than lucky. Treating foster kids poorly and placing them in bad homes just to get your job done is not okay. The foster care system is failing kids badly, because they are more emotional, scared, and most have developmental issues because of what they have been through. According to many authors the statement about foster care systems failing is true.
If the parent refuses to pay for child support tax refunds could be taken away and eyes could be placed against the property. Until the child accomplishes the majority age, both parents should pay for supporting their child with equality. Making dodgers of this system go to jail might help them recognize that they can not get away with not taking care of their child and it might prevent them from doing the same mistake in the future. According to Jefe Guo from The Washington Post, nearly one in four children are not yet paid some sort of child support; but only 62 percent of the money owed is actually
