Do you support gay marriage? Gay marriage, otherwise known as same-sex marriage, is the legal union between two people of the same gender. The dictionary defines marriage as “the legality or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship (historically and in some jurisdictions specifically a union between a man and a woman). Views and definitions of marriage have changed significantly over the centuries and decades. Throughout history, it is clear that marriage is a lifelong, exclusive covenantal union of two people –a husband and a wife- which forms the foundation of the family. Male and female were created to complement one another, and, to produce children, this requires both a man and a woman. From the beginning, it is evident that marriage should be between a man and a woman, but with modernized thinking and the corruption of this world, the definition of marriage has changed according to people’s thoughts and ideas of what they think a marriage should be. Chief Justice Roberts stated, “Every definition that I looked up prior to about a dozen years ago, defined marriage as a unity between a man and a woman as husband and wife. Obviously, if you succeed in changing it, that core definition will no longer be operable.” As Christians, we realize that marriage is rooted in God’s creation of mankind and though the world’s definition of marriage may change, God’s never does.
