As the school year starts, students seem to start off the year well but end up getting worn out as time goes by. Why? Some students have the belief that they were born smart and seem to give when faced with a tough situation in fear that it will make them look dumb, so they simply give up. However, it has been proven that having a fixed mindset can actually lead to failure. Student success is founded upon the encouragement teachers and parents give to students to have a growth mindset rather than have a fixed mindset and not accepting challenges.
Imagine going to school and really succeeding; you understand everything, you’re getting good grades and all the praise you can dream of from your parents and teachers. But then you move up and things get harder, you don’t understand everything, your grades are dropping and you are scared that you will no longer get that praise. You have two options, you can either take on the challenge and get back to where you used to be, or you can sit down when you feel threated by the hard work. In “Brainology” by author Carol S. Dweck, we are shown research concerning those two options or “mindsets” and how we can change them. This excerpt is divided into four main parts; first, Mindsets and Achievement , where the thought-processes are first introduced.
With the invitation to education most students wouldn’t achieve as high of a standard they are capable of. I believe this is a major part in education. Most teachers know the educational abilities of every student, but when they see that an individual isn’t reaching that mark they push them to do better for the benefit of the student. In both of these stories the teachers believed that the student could do better, and they tried their best to show the student what their capabilities are. One of the hardest parts in education for the students is to get the invitation from their teachers.
The author suggests, “ To succeed in school, you don’t have to be brilliant. You just have to show up and do the problems and essays and reading you are asked to do.” This may be the simplest suggestion in the article. Overall, 11th grade will be over sooner than you can imagine. Junior year may be the hardest year in high school, on the other hand, it can be the most rewarding year when you receive an acceptance letter from the college of your dream. As much as students hate staying up late and being stressed, in their future, all their hard work will pay off and will be a distant
The only difference between elementary school and middle school is more individual topics and recess. Recess is an enormass change that happens between elementary and middle school. Recess has a purpose, that middle school should not be able to take away. Getting better grades, calming aspects, and exercise are all reasons why middle schools should get recess. First, getting good grades is essential to getting the future that many people strive for.
Would you be happy if you had received an A in your class? Do you feel that you truly learned enough to deserve that perfect A? Students who are in either high school or college are forgetting the true meaning of having knowledge and being able to learn. People think that how well they perform in the classroom will justify how well the teacher teaches their students but necessary that might not always be that way. In Brent Staples piece, “Why Colleges Shower their Students with A’s”, he argues that there must be an end to the grade Inflation and continues by examining for a possible solution by using language techniques to emphasize the main point.
He stated and gave many examples to try and prove his point through. In many ways I agree with him, students should do what they are interested in, but some may be lazy and not do anything which is why they might need that help that teachers provide. At the end of the day I think teachers do feel like they taught at least one person something new that day which might help them out with their future college path or occupations. But, at the same time I disagree because I think most should attend school not just for their grades and their parents, but also for themselves. Just knowing what is going on around you gets you feeling
I believe that without this encouragement, this student will eventually give up trying to get good grades, because what is the point in working hard if it does not matter to anybody else if this person passes or fails? Maybe having a 4.0 Grade Point Average used to matter to this student, but without having somebody to say that he or she are doing a great job, receiving high grades will not matter as much as it used to because this person will not see the value in success. For this reason, I believe that encouragement is important to help one live their life to its full
This is important because when students are well rested, they become happier and healthier . And since we want all of the students at SHS and SJHS to be the Brightest and healthiest students they can be. And you can help can help this happen by starting school later. But some people believe that starting school later will make kids exhausted when school is over. But starting school at a later time helps give students the energy they need to the day ahead.
