Eliot Spitzer, a former governor of New York, once said “Yes, people pull the trigger - but guns are the instrument of death. Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror”. Gun control is needed in our society because many deaths in America are caused by guns. Having gun control would prevent many deaths and make America a safer place because it could also help to lower crime rates. Gun control laws should be passed to reduce gun deaths, getting rid of gun culture, and help lower the crime rate.
First of all, gun control laws would reduce gun deaths. Many deaths in the United States are caused by guns. For example, “There were 464, 033 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2013[.] 270, 237 suicides (58.2% of total deaths); 174,

Gun culture is the attitudes, beliefs, behavior, and values about firearms. People use firearms for hunting, target practice at shooting ranges, and competitive shooting. Gun culture can prove to be deadly because if you miss your target while hunting and your bullet hits one of your companions, then that person can die. Also, you can miss the target while you are practicing for competitive shooting, and the stray bullet could ricochet into someone. Similarly, “ A woman … was killed by a stray bullet as she was in her backyard gardening” (The Odyssey Online). The woman who was killed, was hit by a stray hunting bullet that missed the targeted animal. The person who shot the bullet, will probably never know that the woman was killed by his bullet. When people accidentally kill someone like this, they won’t know that they did and might end up accidentally killing another person who lives near a hunting or shooting range. Would you rather have restraints on your gun usage or end up killing someone while using your gun for recreational purposes and going to prison for manslaughter? I think that you would rather have restraints on your gun usage because going to prison for manslaughter could ruin your life. Though gun culture shapes the lives of many Americans and provides them with something to do in their free time, it can demonstrate to be lethal like it was with the …show more content…

The debate surrounding gun control and gun violence has been an ongoing controversy in many communities and America as a whole. As gun violence increase each year, views and opinions are rising, which not only have created tension in communities, but also has become a major debate in society. Although some critics argue that guns bring an overall negative impact to the country, others comment that guns are crucial to the beliefs and views of people today as well as important to their culture. In the context of today's society, many people in America are viewing gun control as an infringement of their rights and its threat towards their ability to protect, thus questioning: To what extent should gun use and possession should be controlled?
In the wake of recent events in Las Vegas, the gun control debate has started back up. In one article by Bruce Gold, he gives 10 reasons why guns should be banned. Saying that 98% of civilian gun defenses, no gun is fired. Gold says “if you aren’t gonna fire a shot, clearly you don’t need a gun.” To contradict Gold is Dr. Marshall St John, which in his article he argues that we need guns for self defense.
For the past 232 years, Americans have had the right to defend themselves against crime, tyranny, and victimization through the rights given to us by our founding fathers. If these rights were restricted or even taken away from Americans, the crime rate would soar, and the safety of the people and families of America would be put in jeopardy. If these rights were restricted, the generations to come would be brought into an environment of violence and crime. (Purpose Statement) While many think that gun control can fix the rate of gun homicides and crimes and mass shootings, it will most likely have the opposite effect and will restrict our right to defend ourselves.
Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. Many citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would reduce the threat of crime. People have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting and recreational activity. With the recent events involving firearms and mass shootings, people are skeptical whether to increase or decrease gun laws. Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns and stricter laws and licensing will not effectively save lives.
TO: Dr. McConachie FROM: Jongsu Kim RE: GUN CONTROL DATE: 10/28/2015 I chose gun control for my policy advocate paper because I wanted to learn more about gun control issues that the United States is facing and perspectives from the president and the Congress who agree and disagree on gun control, since I was born in Korea, which barely has any gun-related issues due to the strict law against owning guns. In the United States, the gun control issues are a serious problem. There have been many gun violence incidents, such as shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, Umpqua Community College, and so on. As the gun violence has kept happening, some people want stronger regulations for selling and carrying guns.
According to the CDC, “Guns are responsible for over thirty-three thousand deaths in the United States annually. Gun Control is a set of laws that controls the use of guns by civilians. The Gun Control Act was signed as October 22, 1968 but was updated in 1993. As of February 23, 2018 seventy percent of people favor stricter gun laws and twenty-seven oppose of them. I believe that the Gun Control Laws should be stricter here around the United States because almost everyday something bad is happening by the use of a gun.
Imagine enjoying a nice party at your local cabana, only for you to hear a loud bang, and look over to see your friend lying on the ground, dead. This problem you are facing is known as gun control, and is a issue that has faced the U.S for many years. gun control is the debate on whether or not laws around guns should be tightened or not. Today, I will prove to you what gun control is, who is affected by it, and what we can do to solve it. Gun control is a problem that tends to occur very often in the past few years, and is affecting the U.S very badly.
Gun Control Debate Jake Novak, in an article for CNBC titled, “Gun control isn’t the answer. We already know how to stop the violence,” gives his opinion regarding the controversial issue of gun control. Novak argues that gun control is not the answer to rising gun violence but that proper enforcement of the law would go a long way in reducing the cases of gun violence in America. He states, “We actually solved the issue of rising gun violence in America in the mid-1990’s and again in the early 2000’s by doing something radical. We enforced the law” (Novak 28).
A weapon in the wrongs hands is the maximum danger humanity can face. Nowadays, violence and delinquency in society are viewed as the maximum problem solver. Humanity is full of chaos; hate and envy seize our souls. Guns are the ultimate security for some citizens but for others, these add to a feeling of defenselessness. Throughout history, any topic related to guns means a plethora of problems.
Gun control must not be established for the sake of a citizen 's right to protect themselves from crime, and to protect citizens from potential mass shooting, and gun control must be stopped for the basic principle of security the citizens have from the government itself. The future must not be dominated by oppressive gun reforms or any law revoking guns from those who need them the most; instead as a society America must progress towards arming the population not disarming, and to protecting not
Alexis Clarke Professor Frank English 110 29 October 2015 Gun Control Will Not Eliminate Crime The big issue of gun control in the United States, is that many people believe that it takes away the 2nd Amendment rights, which is the right to bear arms. Citizens of the United States are promised the the right to bear arms in the Constitution, and by applying gun control laws takes away that same right. Crime is high enough in cities with very few laws pertaining to gun control, but taking guns away from people who are registered with license will not solve the problem either. Placing more limitations on gun owners, particularly responsible gun owners, will not reduce gun violence.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Gun Control in America Gun control in America is a highly debated subject. James Wilson speaks against gun control in his article “Gun Control Isn’t the Answer”. Gun laws need to be more restricted. Gun control reform is needed to safeguard children and prevent access to those with mental illness and a criminal background. Wilson talks about the shooting at Virginia Tech using it as a platform to talk about people not weapons being responsible for the tragedy.
Thus, I recognized that gun ownership is a serious social problem. This problem surely threatens ordinary people’s lives in the United States. To handle this problem, I did some research about the
Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.
