Every country has their issues, but some countries issues are worse than others. The United States of America has a very unique issue where the whole problem is said to be allowed according to the constitution. Gun laws and the right to bear arms has been a highly controversial subject for an exceptionally long time. Hardcore Republicans, which currently rule virtually all of US Government do not contribute to the solving of this issue. If you look at the evolution of firearms, there has been a drastic change in the fire rate, ammunition capacity, range, and accuracy. The AR-15 used the recent school shooting in Florida recently and 9 other rifles were legally purchased by 19, Nikolas Cruz, at Gun World of South Florida in Deerfield Beach. If there was a thorough background check along with a immensely …show more content…
This number will continue to grow and will not stop or plateau until the government does something about this crisis. Columbine, Colorado. A peaceful town that is home to about 24 000 people. If you went there then you would’ve never guessed that it is also home to one of the biggest massacres in US history. Located at the Columbine High School, a shooting took place. The lives of 12 students and 1 teacher were taken by two shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, on April 20th, 1999. 24 others were injured in this shooting and there could, possibly, have been many more, but the propane tank bombs, that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold planted in the cafeteria, did not detonate. Students were mercilessly shot at point blank by legally purchased weapons. A tricky situation because the weapons were purchased by a friend of Klebold and Harris. This transition constituted an illegal “straw purchase.” A TEC-DC9 was purchased from a pizza shop employee named Mark Manes, who knew they were too young to purchase the assault pistol, but nevertheless sold it to them for
A note containing a series of numbers was found in the hotel room where the Las Vegas massacre was fired, investigators believe that those numbers helped the gunman to make his shots more precise. These numbers included the distance between the height of the room and the concert. It still has not been possible to determine what caused Paddock to carry out the shooting. Vice President Mike Pence showed up at a prayer service in Las Vegas on Saturday to remind victims of the attack. He said that the memory of the victims of the massacre would be engraved in the hearts of the Americans.
On December 14th, 2012, the lives of thousands, and indirectly millions changed after the shooting of twenty children and six teachers were fatally shot by the infamous Sandy Hook Elementary school shooter, Adam Lanza. This event was so dramatic and sickening the world stopped in it’s tracks waiting for what was going to happen next. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the cauldron was stirred and the underlying question resurfaced; What should we do about gun control laws? Should the people of America even have guns? After a number of shootings occurring and Sandy Hook occurring, Barrack Obama addressed the event and spoke about “reducing gun violence” and promoting “gun safety” drawing many citizens to support his cause.
On October 1st, on a Sunday, at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, through a hotel window 500-600 people were injured and 58 people lost their lives. My paper will be about the heros in the shooting and who they were and what they did to become heros. My paper is also about what makes a hero, and who has been a hero in my life. Some of the heros in the Las Vegas shooting went by the names of Mark Jay, a brother and a hockey coach, Krystal Goddard and Amy MccAslin. I will tell you these heroic stories each in different paragraphs.
Mass shootings are a horrific event prevalent in our society for many years. On July 18, 1984, James Huberty fires with his long-barreled Uzi at a McDonald’s San Ysidro, California, killing twenty-one adults and children. Another gunman, George Hennard, fires in a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, killing a total of twenty-three people on On October 16, 1991. A different mass murderer, Seung-Hui Cho, shoots thirty-two students and faculty members dead at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia on April 16, 2007. Additionally, Adam Lanza opens fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut killing twenty students aging from six to seven, and six staff on December 14, 2012.
On Friday morning, two young girls were killed at Independence High School in Arizona. The shooting took place early in the morning before classes started. The two girls, fifteen years old and sophomores, appeared to be really good friends in a relationship. Names of the girls have not been released by the police. It appears to be a murder-suicide and that one girl shot the other before taking her own life.
According to the U.S. compare with other countries of the article, i am aware of that there are some reason cause people suffer the mass shooting, which U.S is a unique gun country and it is not a big ideal for delusional or vengeful people to procure a semiautomatic handgun of the rifle. Obviously, if people can get weapon easily in their country, it is not hard to explain why the country has this tragedy of a mass shooting. Also, mass shooting would incessant in that way. So, i think the fist solution to reduce mass shooting that is careful reflection on gun control laws. Mental health is another factor cause mass sooting.
The mass shooting in Vegas makes me feel empathetic towards the families of the victims. The fear and panic felt is not exclusive to concert-goers, but is shared by their loved ones at home. For example, the family of my sister 's best friend have been vacationing in Las Vegas this past week, and staying at the Luxor hotel, a block away from the location of the shooting. The fear felt by the Craft family was reflected in my father 's face this morning, as he feared for their safety as much as they did. My heart goes out to the families of those that were affected by this shooting
For that reason , the goals of the two articles is to show how easy it is to access guns in America. The goals of these two articles is to get people to recognize how easy it is for people to get guns without needing a permit or background check. Both of the articles goals are extremely comparable. In the Article “We Call BS” by Emma Gonzalez, she exclaims, “In Florida, to buy a gun you do not need a permit, you do not need a gun license, and once you buy it you do not need to register it.”
Another reason is current gun laws already established aren 't enforced and the reason for that is we don 't care enough. Why don’t massacres at Sandy Hook, Aurora, Charleston and now Orlando inspire voters who support gun safety to make it a principal demand? Why doesn’t the ongoing carnage in our urban centers, and the obscene death toll by gun violence, outrage voters, and embarrass them in front of the rest of the world? The answer is the much stronger voice of Gun rights advocates. Gun rights advocates certainly prioritize their position; they are single-issue voters above all the rest.
Imagine sitting in a desk when out of nowhere gunshots are heard. Panic strikes the classroom. The teacher begins to become flustered and ridden with fear as fellow students grab phones to reach out to others. Screams of sadness and despair are heard from the hallway while students and faculty run and hide without knowing if survival is an actual reality. The threshold level of a fellow student has finally been reached.
These types of weapons only benefit the military and there is no reason for a regular citizen to own a military level weapon. Opponents argue that they can be used for personal protection and recreational use but there is no logical reason to use a semiautomatic gun when you’re just trying to “have fun.” A New York Times editorial argued, “Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership.” As many Americans agree assault weapons are far deadlier than other firearms (Assault Weapons). “From 1984 to 2012, assailants who used large capacity ammunition magazines were able to shoot 161 percent more people and kill 78 percent more victims than those who used a weapon holding 10 bullets or fewer,” Argued Richard Aborn, president of the Citizens Crime Commission in New York (Assault Weapons).
Options may be, black markets and stealing, sometimes from family members. Criminals or mentally ill people have and will continue to find ways around gun restrictions and
One of the few reasons a student could cause a school shooting is because of childhood distress. Along with childhood distress this student could not like a specific class, a teacher they have, or another student. These types of school shootings can be the ones where little to no people are killed since there are most likely going after one teacher or to one class. Even if only one person is killed in a school shooting we can’t just ignore that fact. That one person could have been planning to make a huge difference in the world that could go on to help you in life, you never know what there potential in life was.
Mass Shootings have been pretty common in the U.S. In the past 30 years or so. According to the Congressional Research Service, there have been 78 mass shootings in the United States since 1983. The shootings have resulted in 547 deaths and 1,023 casualties. Mass shootings are only responsible for a very small percentage of deaths in the United States, but mass shootings are happening more often than ever, a mass shooting happens on average one time a month.
This paper will seek to determine why have school shootings become familiar media events. On April 20th 1999, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, two students of Columbine High School, equipped with multiple firearms including explosives went on a killing spree, before committing suicide (Kohn, 2001). Wounding more than 20 people and causing the death of 13 people, the Columbine High School shooting is considered as one of the most important school shootings in history. School shooting is the action in which ‘multiple intentional killings’ are carried out in ‘educational institutions’ by one or more perpetrators (Böckler et al., 2013, p.3). The devastating event not only appeared on newspapers but it has since been adapted into an Oscar-winning
