Mass Shooting Most people argue that everyone should have a right to bear firearms. However, unlimited access to guns endangers the safety of the society. Guns can fall in the hands of bloodthirsty offenders or of mentally unstable people. Therefore, firearms should be controlled and must be allowed based on certain qualifications. Most mass shooters have no solid reason or any emotional ties with their victims, but they all have access to firearms.
This paper will examine the problems, laws, and response to guns over the past decades. First of all, guns have been a huge problem for many citizens lives in the US today. Guns in a crime are a lot more likely to cause a death than other weapon, so laws are put in place to stop this. (Zimring 440) With so much power, guns are
Lately, there has been uproar about gun control due to the gun violence and crimes throughout America recently. People who rely on the law that protects them are more often affected than those who oppose it for their own explanatory reasons. To keep civilians safe, gun control was made into laws/policies that regulate the manufacture, sales, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by the citizens themselves. Though it may seem, these laws aren’t being held to a higher standard causing disruption to the chaotic peace within the states. This will therefore incline the government to have different ways of justifying gun control to make a safer environment for its own people.
The Constitution states that we have the right to keep and bare arms, but there are some groups who have decided that 's not right. They will do anything to change the Second Amendment. This year there was a new gun legislation which adds to the long list of gun laws that already exists. In Colorado and Oregon a law was passed that says you can not buy a gun at a gun show without a background check, and a gun show not only by 3 or more persons to be. So in other words, it is illegal to exchange guns while hunting.
‘’Guns are responsible for over thirty-three thousand deaths in the United States annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).. In 2014, the CDC reported that 11,008 of the 15,872 homicides committed in the United States that year involved a firearm. Of the 42,826 suicides reported that year, 21,386 involved a firearm. These statistics have inspired efforts at the federal and state levels to enact gun control legislation to reduce crime and violence’’(‘’Gun Control’’). According to the statistic guns are held for over 33,000 deaths in the United States.
According to the National Rifle Association, "2.5 million guns are used for the sole purpose of self-defense"(procon.org). So, if gun control is enforced, it will make it more difficult for people to protect themselves. Like stated, it will leave law abiding citizens defenseless, and unable to protect their families when a criminal attacks. This is problematic, people should have the right to defend themselves. Also, when Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association said," That the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun ' ' (Smith).
Each day, many innocent and undeserving people are injured or killed due to gun violence. Forty six children, on average, are shot each day. Circa thirty nine are either injured or in critical condition, and seven ultimately die. Each day, across all ages, three-hundred fifteen people are shot. Two-hundred twenty two survive, but unfortunately around ninety three people die each day.
Somewhere in the region of about “32 percent of americans want guns to stay legal,” (“Politics”). The anti gun-control advocates say that banning guns will only encourage criminals to commit crimes because average citizens will no longer have a firearm to protect themselves from these criminals or to use when they go hunt for animals. This would increase the crime rate by criminals being more tempted to commit a crime if they knew that the victim was armed with a gun. The NRA, which stands for National Rifle Association does not want normal people to be punished for the acts of criminals. The NRA was created to regulate the guns that are sold and what is needed before a gun is sold to a gun owner.
Banning Guns Will Endanger Law-Abiding Citizens Gun control has been an idea since the 1800s, Gun regulations can be good and bad. History has shown that banning firearms from the populace led to disaster and civil unrest. ¨We the People¨ in the United States are very divided when it comes to dealing with gun control and regulations for gun ownership. Banning guns increase fatalities, decreases personal protection and safety, and prohibits citizens from their constitutional rights. The 2nd amendment of the United States is ¨The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.¨ This statement plainly states that every American has the right to bear arms, there are no other possible interpretations of this amendment that make any logical understanding.
