Pearl Harbor: A job loss is someone else’s gain Pearl Harbor is an important monument on Oahu, Hawai’i. It has been on the island since 1911. Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is responsible for taking care of the ships and submarines that are stationed there. The Shipyard’s mission is to keep the ships and submarines fit and ready to fight. In the past couple of years, the Naval Shipyard has been looking to hire more workers. A lot of people on the island need better paying jobs, especially since the economy is becoming bad. The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is losing workers due to early-age retirement, and while anyone is allowed to apply for the Pearl Harbor Apprenticeship, only 100-150 people each year will get hired. It all started in the year of 1908, when the congress gave consent to workers to construct the Pearl Harbor Naval Base. Years later during February 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the Unites States Pacific Fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harbor on Oahu, Hawai’i. On December 7, 1941 Japanese aircrafts were launched and ready to …show more content…
Applicants want to apply for the Pearl Harbor apprenticeship because they need better paying jobs. Hoover discusses how much a worker makes which is “Starting pay is about $20 an hour. That increases to just under $30 an hour for apprentice graduates” (Hoover Para 4). The amount of money a worker makes is more than the minimum wage provided in Hawai’i. How much money is that total in a year? According to a Shipyard apprentice program administrator named Steven Watanabe, “the shipyard expects to fill 75 engineering positions with pay ranging from $45,000 to $68,000 a year, depending on the applicant’s qualifications” (Hoover Para 5). That amount of money will make more people wanting to apply for the apprenticeship. Applying is just the beginning of the journey to getting the job. The next step is waiting to see if you were selected to be a trainee for the

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people, in their righteous might, will win though absolute victory.” President Franklin D. President Franklin D. Roosevelt made a decision that would change the lives of Japanese-Americans on February 19, 1942, two months following the Japanese bombings on Pearl Harbor. On February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, authorizing the internment of over 110,000 American citizens of Japanese ancestry and resident immigrants from Japan1. Meaning that Japanese-Americans, regardless of their U.S. citizenship, were forced to evacuate their homes and businesses and then proceed to move to remote war relocation and internment camps run by the U.S. Government. The attack on Pearl Harbor had, unfortunately, released a wave of negativity, aggression and blatant racism that some of the Non-Japanese American citizens had been holding in up until the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? If you were threatened by an individual, would you throw the first punch or wait for the attack. This is how Japan felt when they were trying to dominate Asia. On Sunday December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked the United State’s biggest naval base, Pearl Harbor. This attack was a turning point for the United States because this was one factor that brought them into World War II to fight against the Axis Powers.
Everyone knows about Pearl Harbor, however, do people know why? Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese on December 7th, 1941 at approximately 7:55 am. 361 Japanese planes attacked the American naval base in Hawaii. During this time, people around the world were witnessing the impacts of WWII. Japan had signed a pact to be allied with Germany and Italy.
Although the past cannot be changed, the future is in your power. But what if power is the reason the future cannot be changed? The Pearl, by John Steinbeck, is a timeless story that is filled with metaphors for how avarice takes over humans. Although there is no easy way to get rid of it, Kino goes through many challenges to free himself from the troubles that come with possessing the power the pearl held. Kino went from a loving human to a dehumanized figure because he saw great wealth in the pearl, attacked in order to maintain the power it held and lost the ability to have emotions.
By 1945, those involved in the Second World War were exhausted. There had been millions of casualties, millions were still suffering and countries were in turmoil. After six years of war, those involved were ready for it to be over. By the end of 1944 the Axis had collapsed. Once Germany unconditionally surrendered on May 8, 1945, the Allies were hoping Japan would surrender too.
On December 7th of 1941, an attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese changed the course of history of the United States and the world. This attack on an American naval facility claimed a staggering 2,403 lives and wounded 1,178 others forcing the United States’ formal entrance into World War II. I was very fortunate to visit and participate in a South Washington County ISD 833 group band performance at this historic site, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. While visiting this monument, I learned about the significance of this International aggression on the American soil. This attack symbolized a threshold point for Americans from just offering support to the Europeans to becoming actively involved in the war.
“Why, by interweaving our destiny with that of any part of Europe, entangle our peace and prosperity in the toils of European ambition, rival ship, interest, humor, or caprice? It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world... we may safely trust to temporary alliances for extraordinary emergencies.” This quote from George Washington in his 1796 farewell address describes the opinion of the United States for a majority of its history. Americas public opinion and national policy had the purpose of minimizing the risk of entering another war.
December 7th, 1941 is a day changed the lives of all Americans. It is the day Japan deliberately attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii killing many U.S. soldiers and destroying a lot of the U.S. naval fleet. This day which turned the tide of World War II, up until this point the U.S. had not chosen to intervene in the conflict overseas, but Japan’s attack had given the U.S. a reason to enter the fight. This speech given by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on December 8th, 1941 was his own passionate plea to the U.S. government and people to support the U.S. entering the war and fighting back against the tyranny occurring overseas. President Franklin D. Roosevelt effectively appeals to the emotions of the U.S. population by establishing trust with his audience through the use of emotional diction, and repetition which allow him to rally support for the war effort.
“Mary Tsukamoto once said ‘I knew it would leave a scar that would stay with me forever. At that moment my precious freedom was taken from me’” (Martin 54). The Betrayal. The attack on Pearl Harbor.
Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor is by far one of America’s most remembered events in history. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese dropped bombs on the American base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This attack is what persuaded President Franklin Roosevelt to join World War 2 and fight on two fronts. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor for many reasons. They attacked because they believed they would create a New World Order, they felt threatened by America and because of the oil embargo.

With those set in place I should be making $10,000-$50,000 annually ("Writing and Editing." 700.) Now as a fresh video game designer I’ll have a lower tier job since I would be new, this should pay me around $35,000-$75,000 annually (Taylor, Allan and Parish, James.
