What is pride? Pride is “a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.” But what does pride mean to others? A debate was started online at “Debate.org” about pride. People debated if pride is bad or good, 43% said it was bad and 57% said it wasn’t bad. People replied about what they think about pride, the comments were anonymous. For the 43% that said pride was bad, some people said “pride was not the same as confidence” or “pride can lead to bad things.” The 57% said that “pride is good in every way” and “pride is wisdom.” Since so many people have different opinions on pride it might seem a little hard to …show more content…
I don’t think it’s good to be too prideful. But it is good to be satisfied with something you did and to be proud. If someone has too much pride they may seem arrogant or conceited. Pride is good to a certain point. An article online at “changingminds.org” it says that “pride is a two faced emotion. On one hand it can be noble and good, and on the other it can be selfish and mean. It all depends on how it is used.” To some people they consider pride a sin, since it is one of the deadly sins. Some people even call it the “deadliest …show more content…
Healthy pride is feeling good about something you’ve accomplished. The feeling of satisfaction over something you have done. Unhealthy pride is being selfish or self-centered. Bragging about all the things you’ve done or have. An article online at ‘billygraham.org” called “Can Pride be a good thing?’ they talk about the healthy type of pide and the unhealthy type. “The tragedy is that pride blinds us to our faults. ...Instead, we become self confident and independent, and we see no reason to humble ourselves..” Pride can be blinding. Odyssey Argumentative Essay Odysseus is an arrogant egotistical warrior who hardly ever takes the blame for his own actions. Since he does not take responsibility it shows his weaknesses that could be used against him if this were a war. Odysseus’s weaknesses are shown equally in the literature and the movie. In some ways the literature showed it better or explained it better than the movie did. But in some ways the movie outlined his weaknesses than the movie because it is more visual than when you are reading the story.
People today experience pride in their life, just has Odysseus had
Pride. Pride never changes. It has come in the same way since day one and every human and even animals experience the feeling of pride. The emotion starts from something little like getting an “A” on a test but grows a large as the pride of winning a war and living free. “Pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and death” (Hurst 2). This is how James Hurst describes pride in his heart-wrenching short story, “The Scarlet Ibis.” What speaks to me most about this quote is its profound truth. For the majority of people, pride is either a positive or negative thing, but what Hurst and I seem to agree about is the fact that pride can be both. It is an undeniable symptom of the human condition, a tool that can either create or destroy, and is responsible for the best and worst parts of history.
Pride...is something to fear. This quote is directly connected with the story “The Scarlet Ibis”. Brother’s past now haunts him. Pride is a powerful thing and it's not always good.
One of the seven deadly sins is the act of having too much pride. Pride in general is not an evil feeling to have. It is human to have pride in oneself, but having too much pride is unhealthy and will cause problems somewhere along the way. Two characters who show a harmful amount of pride are Sylvia from Toni Bambara’s “The Lesson” and Sammy John Updike’s “A&P”. A famous quotation states “Pride (arrogance) comes before Destruction... and a haughty spirit, before a fall.”
To be prideful is human nature, even when it hasn 't been earned. Being proud of who you are and what you have accomplished is an important part of everyone 's life, but sometimes we are prideful without something to be proud of. This kind of pride is shown in the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry through the character Walter Younger. He enters the play with a false sense of pride in being a man, despite the fact that he is a chauffeur who is struggling to support his family. Throughout the plot, he struggles with acceptance of his social status and economical situations, but ends up achieving true fulfillment in simply being proud of who he and his family are as people with aspirations.
The Freshman 15 is a thought that crosses the minds of most future college students, but most say that it won’t happen to them. This fear of losing a toned body after graduating high school bothers some more than others. They realize after high school there are no longer athletics, and they’ll no longer be exercising regularly. Also, when they depart from their parents house and begin to live on their own their eating habits change.

Google states the definition of pride as “a feeling, deep pleasure, or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements,” but what happens when one’s pride is fractured? Ahabs’ pride was fractured the day Moby Dick tore off his leg. Since
Pride Pride is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. The word pride both positive and negative meanings that can be seen throughout history.
