In my persuasive essay i will be talking about footballers wages. Many people believe that they are paid too much for kicking a ball about for a few hours a week but on the other hand, this can be argued as they have put lots of effort and hours hard work in everyday to become the best they can be so should they have as high a wage as they do? Firstly, some of the most famous footballers are paid massive amounts of money each year for example, Ronaldo gets paid £288,000 per week which is £15 million each year and on average a doctor only gets £37,547 to £70,000 each year which is 3 times less than a footballers wage and footballers only kick a ball about for a few hourss a week but doctors save people lives each day and there is some footballers who do nothing just as footballer Radamel Falcao who gets paid a whopping amount of £341,00 each week for doing nothing as he has only made 10 apperances for Chelsea 9 of which came from the bench. Some people believe that they deserve their high wage as they have put lots of effort and hard work into the footballer they are today.
The rest of his money would come from
The U.S. sustained a total of 2,200 deaths from the war, while the British death count was in the 1,000-2,500 range. Casualties include death, P.O.W., and injured. The U.S. casualty rating was around 5,000. The British war casualties was at a staggering 15,000.The United States loaned eighty million dollars towards the war effort, and in total the war costed around ninety three million dollars for the United States. For two and a half years the Americans drove out the British forces and repelled numerous ground and naval invasions.
In the article, Point: College Athletes Should Be Paid for Their Participation, “While not all Division I schools report a profit from their athletics departments, college sports are a multibillion-dollar industry. The revenue generated by college athletics benefits schools, administrators, coaches, vendors, local communities, and television networks.” The big-time athletes become the face of the athletic department. The NCAA uses athletes as a selling point. The athletes are what generate money for the association, so why can’t the athletes get a cut of their work?
The author highlights the drastic change in college tuition by saying tuition for “ a four year college has increased by 1,222 percent since 1978” (Ellison). It shows, the price these days a much higher than nearly forty years ago, which is a massive change overtime. According to the National Center for Education Statistics the average cost of college tuition for instate students was two thousand dollars, for a four year college that would be eight thousand dollars. Taking the stats brought forth from Ellison, increasing that price by “1,222 percent” means that college students are now paying $100,000 for a four year instate college. Ellison does this to show that “college is more expensive today than any point in U.S. history.”
College Basketball Players: The NCAA Money-Making Servants College basketball is reaching all-time highs in television viewers, tickets sold, and fans, and is bringing in eight billion dollars in revenue for the NCAA. Logically, the players should be getting a share in that large sum of money, but they don’t. The NCAA has turned into a new form of indentured servitude by essentially taking players and locking them into a straight jacket as money is flying around their talents. Coaches, universities, alumni, and boosters push college students to become better athletes; some are putting in up to forty hours per week in the gym, and there is no compensation for their hard work. Like Seneca once said “Every new beginning comes from some other
The Los Angeles Lakers ' failure to lure a big-name free agent has been quite the popular discussion in the past few years. Why is that? Some criticize the sales pitch from the front office executives, some question whether or not players wanted to play with Kobe Bryant, etc. What people seem to forget is under the new collective bargaining agreement teams are limited in how much they can spend. They also charitably give even more money to their competition from profit sharing.
Amateurism in college athletics is an exploitation of the athletes who participate in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sports. The amount of work that is done by these athletes to help their respective institutions generate millions of dollars in revenue, goes seemingly unnoticed when identifying the substantial amount of money flow in NCAA sports and the amount of people, from stakeholders to alumni, that benefit from this source. Amateurism, the foundation of NCAA sports, has been in place for over a century of time dating back to the early 1900s. Any athlete who is making money for work they’ve done outside of their institution is not being exploited, however, an athlete can easily be placed on the other end of the spectrum when he or she is withheld from recognizing the true monetary value of their talents and likeness that are being used for the profit of the school or others. The NCAA is understandably satisfied with the continuous growth of its’ revenue each year, yet the problem they face of having people accept that “student-athletes” are just amateurs is growing as well.
The NCAA recently brought NIT for over a billion dollars a few years ago and said that the collegiate athletes weren’t getting paid. In college football there are considered five power conferences which consist of ACC, SEC, PAC-12, BIG10, and BIG 12. These conferences bring in the best athletes in the country to attend their programs and pay the coaches upward to 10 million dollars a year. A coach like Jim Harbaugh of the University of Michigan (UM) has been on record saying that college athletes should be paid. All of the college conferences have television deals that range from 12 million dollars to 240 million dollars a year due to the
Harvard was said to be a model of gate wat money and evil side of athletics. Few years following the construction, faculty members including the president said it was a mistake to build this mammoth movement of football. At the time, this was the largest football structure in the world until 1927 when University of Michigan used this model. In 1926, “A Report on University Athletics”
The National Football League has been around since the year 1920, growing from “14 member teams in 1920 to the current 32 teams today.” Depending on the contract with their current NFL team, the total contract of a player worth can be a huge some of money; we are talking tens of millions of dollars. Some would say these players deserve these seven or eight figure contracts, as they entertain millions around the world, and are part of the big business we call the NFL. Others would argue that they are paid too much money to do a sport that some High School students have to pay to play.
Wilt played in a different era than shaq. Wilt won two NBA championships in his career were shaq won four. Shaquille played for nineteen seasons while Wilt Chamberlain played only fourteen seasons. As far as all star games go Shaq played in fifteen all star games while Wilt Chamberlain played in thirteen.
But how much do the top NCAA executives make? The top NCAA executives make about $1 million per year. Who else makes money off these near professional level athletes? First, many coaches earn at least $100,000 per year to coach one of the major sports like baseball, basketball, or football at a school. These coaches will receive bonuses for getting to the playoffs, winning championships, or breaking school records, but what do the athletes receive as a bonus?
Host cities rake in money from eager fans, teams and conferences make money from profit made on the tournament, and because the tournament has a limited supply of resources, prices skyrocket. There are many ways that the NCAA generates revenue. Although the biggest way is through selling the the broadcast rights to television companies, ticket and appeal sales also play a role. Because the NCAA is a non-profit organization, ninety six percent of this close to $900 million the NCAA will make goes straight back to the basketball organizations. The money is given to each participating conference and the NCAA urges the conferences to distributed the money to each team in the conference.
The similarities within the NFL and NBA are many, due to the fact that they are both multi billion dollar organizations, pay their players millions of dollars, and have millions of fans to cheer those players on. The differences are held in the wealth of the two leagues, how they distribute the money amongst themselves, and how they handle their image. When comparing the richest players within the two leagues, it’s easy to notice the difference in where they make the bulk of their money. This leaves NFL players making less money then the NBA in an industry that is worth over a billion dollars more. While the NFL is a fast, strong, and violent game, the NBA is still a fast and strong game that has many injuries over the 82 game season.
