Just this past month, there was a scary amount of powerful and fast moving hurricanes that hit the United States and several island countries, one being Puerto Rico. Hearing about Hurricane Maria and the destruction it left in Puerto Rico was so heartbreaking, especially considering the country’s current standing. Puerto Rico is part of the united states, but often it gets left unforgotten, and sadly, Trump and his administration have seemed to forget about them during their time of need. Trump’s efforts at crisis intervention and relief measures are lacking, but it’s his attitude towards the situation that’s been inexcusable.

Instead of spreading awareness of what people can do to help or even what he can do to help, he is lashing out on people who are non-violently protesting the systematic racism in America. The fact that he choses to lash out on people of color trying to fight for justice instead of doing something positive and productive, shows the systematic racism they are protesting. Not only does his actions prove the racism, it perpetuates it. He encourages the backlash on people of color fighting for rights, as well as the ignorance of Puerto Rico’s suffering. Trump constantly creates a cycle of dichotomization. He has created a divide in the country resulting in the conservative and liberal. He has given the alt-right a voice and allowed their privilege to thrive, while hurting lower class people, people of color, the LGBTQ community, females, and many others. This divide has been within the country since before its formation, but 241 years later, Trumps actions while in office still aim to advance this dichotomy in our
