America is known as the country of opportunity. Many immigrants come over from all over the world looking for a fresh start, looking for a place where they can be happy and succeed. But how will they be happy when they can barely afford to maintain themselves? What if they have a family to support? Many people here have to have multiple jobs in order to afford food and a place to live. How will they have time to spend time with their family if the have many jobs? And what if they’re a single parent? America’s poverty percentage is really high, and it shouldn’t. You’d think with being a first world country we wouldn’t have many people on the streets and poor home conditions. Fortunately, for us, we can change that. All we need to do is raise the minimum wage so that these people suffering in poverty can get paid more. With higher minimum wage, we would have fewer people in poverty.
