Texting and driving is a big problem in our society. In the U.S. alone about 32,000 people are killed and two million injured in crashes every year. More than ninety percent of vehicle crashes in the U.S. happen because of distracted driving (Kalra and Paddock 1). Such as texting or any other form of distracted driving. However, this topic is very serious and needs to be addressed. The main things that need to be addressed are why people text and drive and how we can stop people from texting and driving (Kalra and Paddock 1).
Automobile crashes because of texting while driving has become a huge problem. Whether people think they can safely text while driving, or they don’t see the problem with it. Texting while driving is a huge issue that must end (Bratsis 70). To do this our government must help as well as we as people. It is very important that the government provides good educational programs to help spread the awareness about texting and driving (Bratsis 70).
One of the main reasons for texting and driving is that we cannot go a long time without our phones. It is very hard for us to go without using them. In a recent study, 70% of people could not go without using their phones for twenty-four hours (15 facts). Cell phone addiction is just as bad as any other addiction. Therefore, there is so many texting and driving incidents, because the addiction is so strong. Which means that people cannot wait until they have finished driving to look at their phone.
