Is marching band a sport? As a member of the Northwestern marching band, I in fact believe that Marching band is indeed a sport. First of all, according to dictionary.com, the definition of sport is: an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature. Some may say that marching band is not physical nor competitive. I do not accredit people that say this.
For instance in the article Sideline vs. Competitive cheer: Cheerleaders discuss the difference it says “Senior Reagan Tummons, agrees that Competitive cheerleading is her favorite of the two because they are actually working towards a goal which is getting that first place.” This statement describes that competitive cheer actually works for first place/goal and that is a qualification in What a sport is? And it doesn’t state that sideline does the same. As Renee R wrote in Cheerleading is a sport, “Sideline cheerleaders’ main goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with team cheers, which should not be considered a sport.” This piece of evidence could not be any more descriptive, that cheering for a crowd and keeping up energy may be a hobby but sideline cheer is absolutely not a sport!

There's is a scoring system, and after almost every parade with bands, there's an award ceremony where the bands receive their scores and find out their rank. Marching itself, with the choreographed movements throughout the performance of the band, is already physically challenging. However, the people in it are also carrying around their instruments. Some of them, like the sousaphones, weigh 30-35 pounds.

However, there are many facts supporting the idea that if you play golf, you are considered an athlete. A game is considered an activity that is played for self pleasure and enjoyment only. On the other hand, a sport is a competitive activity in which precise skill and athleticism is needed to achieve success. First of all, it is unarguable that when you play sports calories will be burned.

For many teenagers in our world today, playing video games may be a huge part of their daily lives. In contrast, many individuals think playing violent video games will not be safe for kids. However, research has shown that video games have solved some of science’s biggest problems. Teens could someday cure diseases. Also, kids who play violent games are being “exposed” to what war may be really like.
You know all those people that told you video games are bad for you? They were wrong. Video games aren’t bad for you, they’re actually making your life better. For years video games have been criticised for making people more anti-social, overweight, or depressed.

Approximately 90% of children in the United States play video games, and more than 90% of those games involve mature content that often includes violence (Park, 2014). There are those that believe video games are detrimental to society, however playing video games including those with mature content can actually be beneficial to both individuals and society by increasing knowledge expanding the ability to react positively at real life situations and improving cognitive thinking skills. Children that play video games not only have the potential to increase their ability to learn right from wrong, and to improve their cognitive thinking skills the game can also increase a child’s knowledge.
