For many years, and counting the owning of firearms have been legal, and very popular here in the United States and around the world in many other countries. In today’s modern time it takes very little effort to acquire one of these potentially life threatening weapons, and to me that scares the life out of me. The use of firearms has plagued our nation with unnecessary violence, and the banning of owning these firearms will bring forth great benefits to our nation. With the banning of owning these weapons we’ll notice a huge drop in public shootings, in which have been popping up left and right in America, a place in which our citizens shouldn’t have to fear or worry about the safety of their lives. The owning of firearms is a danger in your own home to your children, who wander upon them and lose their lives due to these weapons. …show more content…
For instance, on April 16th, 2007 a man by the name Seung-Hui Cho a student attending Virginia Tech College decided to walk upon campus and massacre 32 civilians. With nothing but his pistol he ended the lives of 32 people, in which could have been prevented if the accessibility on receiving a firearm wasn’t so easy. How many lives do we have to lose for something to be acted upon? When you leave your home and step outside in a public place, you shouldn’t have the thought of you getting gunned down by a person what so ever, so we need to act on this to prevent the loss of citizen’s lives in our own backyard. After the Oregon Community College mass shooting which took the lives of 10 students bringing the death toll to 294 deaths! That’s this year alone, in 2015 there has been a recorded 294 deaths by mass shootings, and that doesn’t include the hundreds of people that were
It is a grim matter to those, who walk through this great nation, or flick through the news channels, when they see the statistics, and the headlines of shootings and homicides committed against innocent and defenseless peoples. Now americans everywhere, instead of being able to live their life with a peace of mind, are forced to live with the anxiety and fear that their loved ones will not home from mundane activities such as school, the movies, or even church. These fears aren’t unfounded either. The FBI defines a mass shooting as a public attack in which three or more people are shot, and last year in the USA there were over 427 mass shootings.
A few days ago I posted that I wanted someone to purpose legislation that would stop the shootings, but allow me to keep my AR 15. I took the post down because the conversation went exactly where I didn’t want it to go, but predicted it would. Instead of proposals on legislation, I was having to defend my right to have an AR 15. Gun control advocates are demanding legislation, so I was hoping someone could come up with a proposal within the parameters I described.
Many of the victims of shootings demand changes. “Similar laws put guns in the hands of shooters who killed 14 people during an office Christmas party in California in 2015, 49 people in a Florida nightclub in 2016, and 58 people at a country music festival in Las Vegas in 2017,” (Text 1, Lines 34-36). For three consecutive years there has at least been one headlining public mass shooting on innocent civilians. The people wants change, and they want it now. Victims and some of the public want people who buy guns to pass mental evaluations, background checks, and to be a certain age to buy a firearm.
Gun Control Gun control over the years has been a controversial subject, with people arguing for both sides. The 2nd amendment states that everyone in the U.S. has a right to bear arms. Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. Having gun control would help lessen the deaths by firearms in the country for a variety of reasons.
A weapon in the wrongs hands is the maximum danger humanity can face. Nowadays, violence and delinquency in society are viewed as the maximum problem solver. Humanity is full of chaos; hate and envy seize our souls. Guns are the ultimate security for some citizens but for others, these add to a feeling of defenselessness. Throughout history, any topic related to guns means a plethora of problems.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Earlier this months, on valentine’s day, 17 people were killed by a 19-year-old former student who was able to legally purchase an Ar-15 assault rife. The irony that this man can purchase a deadly assault weapon but cannot buy a beer is almost enough to laugh. Almost. Among first world countries, the United States is one of the worst for deaths by guns, both homicides and suicides. Every other first world country has extensive restrictions on gun access and see much lower rates of gun violence and gun death in comparison to America.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
There is an overwhelming mentality that gun ownership is an American’s God given right and, while it is their constitutional right, they will not be advised, directed or even considerate of any changes in gun possession laws. Despite evidence proving the contrary the American people believe they are a safer country with firearms, this is emphasised in one of the NRA’s notorious taglines, ‘The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.’ Gun ownership, however, can be properly regulated as demonstrated by Canada’s gun laws. While guns are not prohibited, the measures taken to ensure gun safety greatly reduce gun related violence as seen on the graph
In the previous weeks a travesty occurred. In Florida’s Parkland High school a disturbed individual entered the building and murdered 17 civilians and injured 14 more. This is a tragedy and the families and friends of these victims are mourning. However, with such a travesty as this, it ignites a debate. In the aftermath of such a catastrophe, what should we do.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
My paper is over guns in school and the students that should be able to carry them. In ourare Cconstitution, it says that we as Aamerican citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, and the constitution is supposed to be the supreme law of the land. Now in our country it is legal to denyinie people this right on private property. But over 83 % of schools in America are public, therefore it should be perfectly legal to carry on school grounds. As long as you are able to protect yourself according to the law why should I have to give up that right just to get an education.
“Just in 2018 there has been 18 school shootings, on average per week” (snopes:How many school shootings have taken place so far in 2018). The incidents that have occurred have been a big impact in people 's lives. Yet no one with power has spoken about the problems regarding the recent shooting. See, there are two main sides of gun control, the side that agrees and the side that doesn’t. People who agree believe that no one should be able to own a gun, or that there should simply be stricter gun control laws.
According to Bob Barr, “It's not a gun control problem; it's a cultural control problem.” Violence is one of the most cruel things on planet earth and is always being used against someone or something . People now want to impose gun control because of the violence that is causes but it is a hard process to deliver due to the people who are against it. Gun control needs to be enforced if people want to stop things like mass shootings and other outrageous crimes.
But, that doesn’t mean we can sit back and do nothing. Gun rights are one thing, but that doesn’t come with a right to kill people. But what is a right is to go out in public and not have to fear being
