The procedure is the removal of the unborn child by cutting open the abdomen and uterus and killing the child before removing it. One in three women will have an abortion in her life time, most during the first trimester of pregnancy (Stopes 1). Overall, abortions have been a very common argument between the pro-life and pro-choice
Abortion is defined as terminating a pregnancy before the fetus has been born. Abortion has been and still is very controversial and has had an increasing amount of cases all over the world. In 2000 there were over one million abortions in the United States (Harper, et al, 501). Abortion is one of the most common procedures women undergo. According to the current abortion rates about thirty percent of women will have an abortion by the age of forty-five (Jones and Kavanaugh, 2011).
There have been 43 unborn babies who have lost their lives ever since Roe v. Wade(O’Bannon) and this number should be nowhere near where it is at. The incorrect action of abortion must be illegal. There are many other solutions besides abortion, abortion is murder, goes against God’s will, and lastly can result in medical complications for the women who go through with it. In 1857, Texas, and many other states in the United States of America made abortion illegal except when the mother’s life is endangered. Although, there were still many abortions taken place at the time.
The five most common reasons consist of the following: contraceptive failure, inability to support a child, ending unwanted pregnancies, to prevent a child being born with severe defects or medical problems, and if rape or incest occurred. “Over half of all women who have an abortion used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant” (ProCon). Unfortunately, birth control is not 100% effective, therefore some women will become pregnant while they are using their contraceptives. “A woman has the right to use birth control and have an abortion because the pregnancy affects her body and her body only” (Sanger 9). If a woman does not wish to carry a baby inside of her for nine months out of the year, she should not have to.
I think that trying to induce your own abortion is not healthy and shouldn’t be done without the help of a doctor or a physician. There are many reasons as to why I think that self induced abortions are unhealthy. One reason why I think that self induced abortions are harmful is because you can die from terminating your own pregnancy. A 1997 government funded record linkage study in Finland found that women who abort are approximately four times more likely to die in the following year compared to women who carry their pregnancies to term (Elliot Institute). Jennifer McKenna Morbelli is an example of this.
In 2011 a legislation passed in Texas made the access citizens have to abortion to be severely restricted. This new legislation made it so that women would feel ashamed and conflicted about a decision that they were otherwise certain about making. One of the results of this is that women must now listen to a detailed description of their ultrasound 24 hours before their scheduled abortion. Another effect since the implementation of this legislation is that many clinics had no choice but to close; twelve out of thirty four clinics in Texas closed in 2013, as they could not secure the proper hospital privileges that the legislation demanded. Texas has even reduced its funding towards family planning and completely removed Planned Parenthood, an organization well known for its pro-choice stance, from state funding (Grossman et al.).
The termination of an unborn child should not be legally practiced in the United States. Abortion affects the child that is being terminated, but can also disturb the mother or other family members. The mother 's emotional state could take a toll if she starts feeling remorse or regret after the procedure is performed. Many studies prove women who terminate their child are more likely
Adoption is a better choice than abortion because of all the babies wanted in infertile families. Abortion is killing an unborn baby by choice. Women carelessly get pregnant, most of the time, then stroll on into the abortion clinic to fix their “mistakes." Well instead of having careless sex, which leads to pregnancy, how about how not to have an abortion. One way to prevent pregnancy is some sort birth control.
If the United States made abortion illegal, one could make the argument that the government is taking away a woman’s right to her liberty and property. Her body belongs to herself only, and she should have the freedom to do with it as she pleases. However, an abortion also involves a child. If abortions are made legal, many children will lose their right to life because they will simply never make it out of the womb. That is not fair either.
As a fetus is too small to protect itself and it is dependent on its mother for survival, killing it amounts to a cold-blooded murder, but according to buzzle.com, “abortion is not murder because it is performed before a fetus has developed into a human person.” Most people believe that the fetus don’t feel pain and is too small to even call human yet. In conclusion, abortion should be okay for women who are not mentally, physically and financially ready. Being mentally ready is important if not ready, she is most likely to make bad decisions that will affect her health. Most importantly is being ready physically, if the woman 's body is not ready to have a baby and is at risk of dying, then the best solution is abortion. Last reason is being financially ready, without money the mother and the baby are going to be below
