A ban on assault weapons shouldn’t be carried through with due to the fact that it is ineffective, dangerous, and fiscally irresponsible. Imagine you’re lying in bed at night and you hear a sudden thud as something is knocked over in your home. You get up to investigate the strange sound, as soon as you look around the corner you see a dark figure in resemblance of a man. You reach for a baseball bat but by the time you reach it the man has pointed a Glock-18 semi-automatic handgun at you. You have no chance at all so you surrender and your house is robbed of all its valuable possessions. Now imagine you’re in the same situation but instead of a bat you reach for your nearby AR15, the thief would be outgunned and would be a fool not to surrender
Making banning assault weapons for "power" would be pointless for many hunting rifles have the same if not more powerful ammunition. Hunting rifles are able to pack more power making them equally if not more deadly that assault weapons. Banning assault weapons would not change anything for the criminals would move on to hunting rifles as they have more powerful capability. Critics argue that by banning assault weapons and putting a capacity on magazines that it would be as if you are limiting what you can protect yourself with. For example, if a man or woman is attacked and has only one magazine to protect themselves it could leave them with out a firearm to defend themselves.
When the criminal is finally arrested, there a dozens of people who have been killed, injured, or fatally injured. All because of one man with a gun. Do you really want your life to be at risk because there is no law banning assault weapons? Do you want to walk down the hallway in fear of someone coming at you with a gun? According to an article from the Washington Post, written by Christopher Ingraham, the president/founder of a public opinions research, the ban on assault weapons lapsed, or expired, in 2004.
The right to bear arms has been a controversial issue ever since James Madison established it as the second amendment of the constitution. The second amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (US Const. amend. II). Those in favor of the second amendment, believe that arms are used for protection, dangerous situations, and sports.
Tashfeen Malik and Syed Rizwan Farook killed fourteen and wounded twenty in San Bernardino; Adam Lanza killed twenty-seven and wounded two in Newtown; and Omar Mir Seddique Mateen killed forty-nine and wounded fifty-three in Orlando. These mass shooters all have one thing in common: the use of assault weapons in their crimes. (Ingraham, 2016). Despite the loss of life, there remains little restriction on who can own assault weapons and buy ammunition in America. There is also no set definition of assault weapons, however for the sake of this argument I will use the definition provided by “Assault Weapons” from the info base: “considered to be a semiautomatic weapon with a detachable ammunition magazine and some type of advanced feature typically used in military-grade weapons.
From the same article, it added to the previous quote, ‘He added: "At the same time, [security guard and] Coach Aaron Feis had a face-to-face altercation with Cruz and was unable to do anything but use his body to shield others. . . . but there is no freedom from danger or threat when security guards are unarmed,”’ (Parke 1). Going along with the previous piece of evidence, this justifies that the ones who were unarmed could not save themselves. Again, this validates that banning semi-automatic rifles will not help the ones put face to face with someone who is armed when they are
Gun Control: Political Lens "Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad," remarked President Obama, pausing to wipe away tears in his emotional gun control speech on January 5 (Bradner). He was alluding to the children and adults killed in the mass shootings at several locations during his presidency, such as but not limited to San Bernardino, Colorado Springs, Rosenberg, and Newtown. In this speech, Obama called for an expanse of background checks for anyone purchasing a gun, this could eliminate the gun show loop hole (Bradner). With only a year left in office, this is Obama's last chance to impose any gun control laws. While moderate gun control could decrease gun violence in the United States, it is unlikely that any permanent
Gun Control: Assault Weapons Should be Banned in America In the past decade there have been many mass shootings which sparked a nationwide debate on the ban on assault weapons. Assault weapons are Semiautomatic weapons that are usually used in the military due to their advanced features. The difference between a Semiautomatic weapon and a regular pistol is that semiautomatic guns reload automatically and can fire consistently (Assault Weapons). A weapon in the wrongs hands is the maximum danger humanity can face. Nowadays, violence and delinquency in society are viewed as the maximum problem solver. Humanity is full of chaos; hate and envy seize our souls. Guns are the ultimate security for some citizens but for others, these add to a feeling of defenselessness. Throughout history, any topic related to guns means a plethora of problems.
Gun control has been a heated debate for several decades, recently, the discussion surrounding this matter has intensified. The argument seems to be divided into liberal and conservative views, thoughts, and values. A majority of liberals desire stricter gun laws, required mental health check-ups, and longer waiting periods when it comes to purchasing a gun. However, the general census among the Republicans is less governmental interference because they feel that there is already too much governmental control involved. The Republican Party often does not want stricter gun laws because the problem at hand is not the gun itself, but the individual wielding the gun.
Gun Control Gun control has become a polarizing and controversial issue around the globe. There have been many reported issues of mass shootings both in schools and in the public, making it a hot button issue. Proponents argue that, if the government strictly controls the ownership of guns, such tragedies can be prevented. Most Americans have an obsession with guns because the law allows them to do so. Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
To begin with, we are living in one of the most violent time in the last decade. There has been more mass shooting in schools and colleges than ever before. Government can not seem to find a solution for this mass shooting. This brings us to the main topic of whether or not we should allow guns in college campus. There might be some benefit of carrying guns in college such as making the shooter afraid and prevent a mass shooting.
Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.
“Just in 2018 there has been 18 school shootings, on average per week” (snopes:How many school shootings have taken place so far in 2018). The incidents that have occurred have been a big impact in people 's lives. Yet no one with power has spoken about the problems regarding the recent shooting. See, there are two main sides of gun control, the side that agrees and the side that doesn’t. People who agree believe that no one should be able to own a gun, or that there should simply be stricter gun control laws.
