It is important to recognize that the only lesson taught by zoos is that it’s acceptable to hold animals captive. Zoo supporters believe humans have destroyed the natural habitats of these wild animals, making the goal of conservation an essential reason to house them. This is true to a degree. There was a time when “rare animals from the wild” were captured to populate zoos, directly influencing “the survival of the animals ' wild population,” ("Zoos, Animals and Animal Rights."); in essence, zoos assisted in the same destruction they claim makes their existence necessary. The removal of these animals from the wild has also impacted the survival of their populations, rendering “the remaining individuals...less genetically diverse” and making it more difficult for them to find mates (Lin).
Animals such as the Tiger, Pandas and African Chimpanzees are kept inside zoos in order to preserve their species and prevent them from going extinct. They are well protected from their predators which allows them to breed and, hopefully, repopulate their species in order to keep their species alive. One of the examples is that zoos implemented International Breeding Programs in order to help these endangered species breed. As the numbers of that
Zoo advocates argue for the conservation and research of endangered species, and thoroughly work to benefit different species and keep them healthy. Both arguments base their reasoning off of varying ideas, animals rights activists address the physical downfalls of animals in captivity, how it is nearly impossible to perfectly recreate an animals natural habitat, and the abuse of animals in captivity. Zoo advocates argue that the conservation and research of endangered species is necessary to keep them from extinction, they fight for humane treatment of animals around the world and work hard to show the real problem in today’s environment. Endearing Emotions
One example is that some animals can get a disease called zoochosis and it is shocking what zoos will do when trying to hide it. For instance, “As Dr Keith Lindsay, a biologist with more than 30 years of experience in elephant research and conservation, has said, these are symptoms of “pathological, stereotypical behaviour that is common with disturbed animals in captivity, but which is never seen in the wild”. There are also cases of animals being given antidepressants to hide their unhappiness from visitors. In 2015 Auckland Zoo euthanised a gibbon, Iwani, because he was “severely depressed” and the zoo admitted they could not meet his welfare needs. ”(An unnatural environment)This is significant because it shows that when zoos commit wrongs and take problems into their own hands it most often ends up worse.
This usually causes extinction within that species, and researchers have decided to do something about it. Although endangered animals are born in the wild, they should be sheltered and protected in nature parks because it helps decrease the amount of extinctions, allows a better and healthier environment, and the animals are protected from predators and human hunters. Endangered animals are to be kept in zoos because it decreases the amount of extinctions. Human activities have affected animals living in the wild dramatically throughout history. Roads being built and
Pet stores often use this licensing to provide a false sense of security to customers, when what it really means is that they do, in fact, get their puppies from puppy mills. “Responsible breeders would never sell to someone they haven't met because they want to screen potential buyers to ensure the puppies are going to good homes.” If you’re looking to buy a purebred dog then I recommend looking in a local shelter first. There are alot of shelter dogs who are purebred. Then, if you don’t find what you’re looking for, do your research and find a trusted breeder that allows you to meet them in person, and the dog.
Animals are or needed for testing in order to keep humans out of harm's way. Using animals prevents people from dying and could save more depending on the medicine being tested. Animals must be used in cases when ethical considerations prevent the use of human subjects. When testing medicines for potential toxicity, the lives of human volunteers should not be put in
If zoos ignore the standards and regulations that are given to them, they will be shut down (? List of Pros and Cons of Zoos?). Today I tried to persuade you to believe that zoos are beneficial to animals and people. Zoos are helpful to animals in many ways and are also a safe place for animals to live their lives. Now that you know how animals are benefitted in zoos, maybe you will begin to realize how fortunate animals really are to be in
Did you know the animals are not locked up in cages in lots of zoos? Also did you know children and adults alike can learn to appreciate animals in zoos. I am pro zoo only because I believe zoos take very good care of the animals and can help animals live longer. The focus of this paragraph is there are many natural habitats in the zoos, zoos provide entertainment, and zoos help animals maintain a healthy population. There are many natural habitats in the zoos.
This exposure and education motivate people to protect the animals and provide entertainment. Zoos save endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment, where they are protected from poachers, habitat loss, starvation, and predators. “The Arabian Oryx was hunted to extinction in the wild. However, from just a handful of animals in captivity the species was brought back from the brink thanks the conservation efforts of Phoenix Zoo and others.
It’s a fun time seeing the animals at the zoo, but do the animals love living there? This is what Jack Hanna thought throughout the book Monkeys on the Interstate by John Stravinsky. Most people are in the zoo business not for the well being of the animals, but instead for the money. On the other hand jack Hanna's first priority is the animals.
Alienation from Nature The alienation of nature describes a dissociation between nonhumans and nature caused by humans. Jonathan Safran Foer, a recently converted vegetarian, described in his book “Eating Animals” the horrific consequences of factory farming and the divide between humans and nature. The customers, butchers, and factory farmers have three very disparate disconnections with the animals slaughtered. Factory farm owners replace these naturally occurring organisms with selected mutants.
“If I don’t cross tomorrow, there will be no army.” General George Washington said the morning of the attack on the Hessians. He vowed to lead the army of the young and old knowing the dangers. If his plan fails he and his army will be humiliated and treasoned for the rebellion against the king. George Washington plan was to attack the day after the Hessians has celebrated Christmas.
