As the animals go to the slaughter, they face even more cruelty and pain. Unlike independent slaughterhouses that try and make their death as humane and swift as possible, industrial slaughterhouses prolong the animals suffering. Industrial slaughterhouses often have mistakes due to their rapid pace. Often animals are not fully unconscious before they are killed. Some are only stunned and then skinned alive (srpaproject).
As Albert Einstein once stated “The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” Animal cruelty is the infliction of animals by humans. In other words animal cruelty is when humans disrespect animals in the act of hoarding, mills, dog fighting, slaughter, etc. Over the years Animal cruelty is similar in inflicts but different in laws , this is shown through the book Oliver twist (the Victorian era) compared to facts of now. The Similarities between the Victorian era and now include what people do to animals. For example in the Victorian era Sikes fought his dog “This resistance only infuriated Mr. Sikes the more; who, dropping on his knees, began to assail the animal most furiously.

This is because others feel the pleasure in hurting animals instead of taking care of them due to psychological disorders. For instance, Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the many notorious psychopathic serial killers who torture animals for satisfaction. Dahmer has collected animal roadkill, dissected the remains, and masturbated over the animals he had cut up (Griffiths, 2016). His desire to act on these deeds are due to his apathetic state. Since he lacks the means of making the effort to deploy the cognitive mode of empathy, he fails to develop identification with these creatures.
When night falls, and the visitors leave the spider monkey exhibit and then eventually the zoo, the speaker is the only one left, back where he started at the bench. The speaker then starts to compare what the monkey did by reaching at his bottom, to what would happen if a human did it. He goes on to talk about how wrong it is. The speaker wants everyone to know this but he can’t say it so he says, “... and we will say these words as we stand; no; think them.” Rice uses diction fantastically here. By putting semicolons in between the word no, it really lets the reader know that the speaker is self conscious.

The physical suffering and discomfort that animals test subjects experience during research that are frequently faulty, limited, and expensive are the factors that advocates for stronger animal rights fight to end. Each day that an animal is subjected to animal testing is another day that they suffer. The test subjects become nothing but a prisoner to the scientists and researchers. Animals in laboratories are permitted by law to be “burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, drowned, addicted to drugs, and brain damaged” all for scientific research (“Cruelty to Animals”). As stated prior, once the experiments are over the animals either die or are thrown back into their confined cages or stocks and used for a later experiment.
The main theme from the two stories are different. ‘The Monkey’s Paw’, deals with the disruption of a monkey’s paw to the harmonious family of the Whites and, was brought from India by Sergeant Morris. In addition, the story is a dark story, using deaths as the consequence. Fate played a big role in ‘the monkey’s paw’ because, “fate ruled people’s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow”. Told with intensity in its foreshadowing and complexity of the monkey’s paw itself.
