Dress down day, also known as casual Friday, is a day in which employees are allowed to wear casual attire. While dress-down day maybe appropriate for some occupations it should not be practiced in the healthcare setting. Healthcare professionals should always be dressed professional as they are providing a service to people who may be having a potential life-threatening situation. In the book “If Disney Ran Your Hospital 91/2 Things You Would Do Differently” the author tells a story about a nurse coming into the waiting room dressed as a clown to tell the parents that their child passed away during surgery on Halloween. The parents were justifiably distraught and requested a meeting with the CEO of the hospital. The CEO was deeply upset and stopped dress down day. He did not want to chance another encounter like that could happen again. Patients rely heavily on their healthcare providers to guide them through the medical process. Professional dress will help to establish trust between the patient and the health care provider. If the provider is not able to obtain the confidence of the patient it my have a negative impact on the patient’s willingness to follow the plan of care. When the healthcare provider is dressed professionally and is easily recognizable it helps to decrease the level of stress and anxiety of the patient.
Some ways that the medical assistant can demonstrate professionalism when supporting patients who might be uncomfortable with having their skin examined by asking for their permission before touching them. It is very important for the patient to be comfortable with the medical assistant enough so they can see what is going on. Another way to demonstrate professionalism when dealing with patients that are uncomfortable with having their skin examined is by letting the patient know that you are not there to judge them. Explaining to the patient that you are only there to help find out the problem is vital because as an MA, you have to be able to see if there is any necrosis, redness, or dryness of the skin. Some patients might be embarrassed

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” This is a quote by Mahatma Gandhi that I hold very close to my heart and my beliefs. I love helping others no matter how small or daunting the task. Seeing others benefit from my help is truly rewarding, and provides me with the ultimate feeling of success and happiness. In addition to my overwhelming passion for helping others, becoming further educated is something I believe to be crucial in living a accomplished life. I believe that one can never help another too much, or learn enough.
I will begin the session with introudcing myself as a occupational therapy student from Saginaw Valley State Unviersity. I want to become a Medical Assistant because I enjoy helping others, and making them feel better. Medical Assistant is not just a career for me, it’s a goal that I will achieve with much pride and honor, and prove wrong those people who keep telling me that I’m not going to make it. I’m not really good in science, but I’m going to push myself to try hard to achieve my goal. Don’t ever let anyone label you, be your own kind of person and make the “impossible” possible. I know that it’s not going to be easy because of all the things you have to learn and memorize to become a Medical Assistant. When I research the courses and the things that a Medical Assistant have to learn and study, it makes me really nervous because I haven’t taken any medical
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it. As a physician, I would work with my patients so that they do not fear age, but rather welcome it. I want to effectively educate my patients so they may willingly choose to lead healthy lives and ultimately extend their days left in this world with their loved ones. I hope that as a caregiver, I am able to help my patients realize that a long, healthy life is far more fulfilling than a short, glamorous one.
My love of the healthcare world began at very early age. I was always so fascinated by how the human body worked and the healthcare workers who would fix it when it broke. when I was about 5 years old and saw a toy doctors kit and knew I had to have it. Hours spent honing my doctoring skills with my favorite doll as my star patient. Even after over a decade in the medical field that love and curiosity for medicine never wavered.
When you are young, you are asked: "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Most children would reply by saying a superhero, a professional basketball player, a model, etc. My response was always, someone who can make a difference in an individual's life. Finding out how I was going to do that exactly was challenging until I reached my junior year in high school. I remember going to the Dental Office to get my regular cleaning and after watching my Dental Hygienist at the time, conduct her regular duties such as cleaning my teeth and educating me on good oral health I was intrigued. At that very moment, I knew that I wanted to help others by becoming a Dental Hygienist. I think that promoting and educating others on good oral health is very important because it
Choosing a career in the medical field can very be overwhelming, there are a multitude of options. The job that is in demand the most is Registered Nurses. This degree, at the minimum, requires an associate’s degree. By the year 2020, all R.N.’s will need to have a BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing); Bachelor’s degree programs are 4-year programs. But don’t stop there, after 2-3 years of on the job experience, find what area you would like to specialize in, and go on and earn that Physician Assistant degree. Pediatrics is what I plan to specialize in. I have always been interested and fascinated with babies and toddlers. There will be many benefits to becoming a Physician Assistant that will outweigh the negatives of the additional academic workload.
At my physician office, the staff always dress and act professionally. I have been going to my physician since I was 6, I have even job shadowed my physician. I do not recall a time my physician or his staff has ever been unprofessional. They are always dressed in scrubs or business casual. As a medical assistant, you can ensure your professional appearance by a few steps:
Healthcare. We all need it, but we don't all have it, and because of that simple fact, we are one of the sickest countries in the industrial world. Our life expectancy for the first time ever is going down, not up. We have the highest maternal mortality rates in the industrial world. And the worst outcomes per cost anywhere.
