After the first few weeks of being addicted, the original dosage no longer helps. The desire for a stronger pill or more medication causes patients to crush their pills and snort it. This allows for the oxycodone to enter the bodies system rapidly. Ultimately, snorting the crushed pills result in overdose, which creates the high feeling for the user. After snorting the crushed oxycodone, the next step the users in the study took was injecting the crushed pills into their bodies.
For instance, these antismoking ads reminds a person of the health-related problems and it triggers a panic response deep within the brain. And the only way a smoker counteracts the feeling of anxiety and stress is by SMOKING. According to the office for national statics the number of adult smokers has increased from 9.5 million in 2001 to nearly 9.9 million in 2006. It also reflected that high rate of smoking among migrants from eastern Europe. Although it was stated that around 1.4 million people had quit smoking but it was because the department of health measures had also included quitters as the ones who had stopped smoking for just four weeks.
The main medicine for reducing bad cholesterol is statins, but some patients cannot tolerate it or do not get enough help from the drug. The study involved both Praulent and a similar medication, Repatha, manufactured by Amgen. But Repatha works in a different way and lowers cholesterol much more. The study on Praulent took a longer time and involved patients at a higher risk of heart events. These were almost 19,000 patients who suffered a heart attack or serious chest pain the previous year that they had to be hospitalized.
Crack cocaine was the popular form of cocaine that showed an uproar in the 1980’s when it was discovered that mixing cocaine with simple household chemicals like baking soda and water resulted in a solid lump of smokable crack. The difference between the base and the salt formulations of cocaine is seen in the onset and the intensity of effects. Orally consuming cocaine produces effects within 15 min, while intranasal use produces an effect within 3 to 5 minutes with a duration of action of 30 minutes. Intravenous route of cocaine, however will start having effects within 30 to 45 seconds after administration. Smoking the free base form of cocaine only takes only 7 to 10 seconds to produce an effect with a duration of actions of 15
some children and people who do not smoke can also cause health problem because people who smoke passes by them and non-smoker get infected. In the US there are about forty-six thousand non-smoking people die from secondhand smoke exposure. People who smoke cigarette had lung cancer more than non-smokers. The cigarette contains seven thousand chemical and seventy chemical can cause lung cancer. In the 20s, the American government tried to enforce a ban on alcohol, but in the process, caused “the greatest crime wave in the country 's history, causing thousands of deaths from bad alcohol, and creating a general (and persisting) contempt among the citizenry for the laws of the United States.” Gore also uses logos when he writes that in 1969 the government slightly “curtailed” the supply of marijuana, and this led to kids getting hooked on more dangerous drugs like heroin, and overall increasing the number of deaths. He suggests that the government, and the crime organizations, benefits from making drugs illegal. That way, both sides are able to flip a profit. This also appeals to the audience’s opinion— many Americans distrust the government and have negative opinions about it. Overall, Gore Vidal’s argument of legalizing drugs is very compelling.
Nevertheless my views on cigarettes will always be the same, they should be illegal. Simply because it results in thousands of deaths and millions of pounds from the NHS to cure those mindless people. 1 In every 5th death is caused by the inhalation of cigarettes. Scary right? Unfortunately it doesn’t stop there, the average smoker will lose about 10 years of life their life expectancy just because of smoking.
This movie was very interesting to me. I learned a lot about cholesterol and the unethical distribution of the drug called Statin. I learned that over 40 million people in the United States take prescription drugs to lower high cholesterol. I was shocked to know that even if you do lower your cholesterol, it does not lower your risk of developing a heart attack. One interesting thing I learned is that the disease hypercholesterolemia was created purposely so that the pharmaceutical manufacturers would have to create a drug to neutralize it.
SMOKING AND ITS EFFECTS Convincing someone to quit smoking is a challenge even if we lay cards on the table and tell them of the negative effects it can cause their body. It is after all like a drug, once you pop you can’t stop. Not only is smoking linked to cancer, lung problems and heart disease, it is the most preventable cause of morbidity and is responsible for the three million and more deaths every year around the world. Studies show that smoking can also cause premature skin ageing, delayed wound healing, hair loss and is a cause of numerous dermatological disorders such as psoriasis. If you need some motivation to stop smoking, add ageing of the skin to your list!
