Sitting out in the sun all day, hanging with your coworkers, and getting a killer tan are some of the main reasons teenagers want to become lifeguards. Of course getting a tan and hanging out with friends are benefits to the job, lifeguarding is a huge responsibility. Many teens that get a summer job in this line of work do not understand how important and critical it is to pay attention to their water and know all the lifeguarding material. Of course lifeguarding is fun and has great perks, but being knowledgeable about your job should be every lifeguard’s first priority. Now I’ve got my point across, let’s dive into the three things to remember when lifeguarding: Scanning on Stand, CPR, and the EAP (Emergency Action Plan). SCANNING ON STAND When on stand, the lifeguard may remain sitting, standing, or walking. When doing these, make sure to switch it up to keep you alert.
