It is a truth universally acknowledged that nobody can live a lone life. It is in our nature to thrive and to strive for success, and having nobody to share our wisdom, ideas, or work with, makes loneliness even more unbearable. That is why there are friends. Friends who help friends, because, as one of the most famous american writers puts it, there is no such thing as bad or good fiends. And, the conscience that derives from this truth is mesmerizing. Sometimes we are wrong, and seldom we commit mistakes, for which we will inevitably regret in the distant future. But having a future with no regrets to think for, is no future at all. Investing too much effort and time in creating strong bonds with people makes it even harder for us to fathom what is right and wrong. We chose to believe them, to put a piece of our faith in them, to warship that our secrets are safe within their cages of reliability, and, why not, to hope for some …show more content…
We could easily spare all the indulgences, and the hardships to forge unbreakable bonds, by not wanting to have friends, if it is clear in our conscience that they will, rather inevitably, die?
Then, one question follows the other, why do we have to live, if we know that we are going to die? Why breathe air if we now that we basically won’t need it, and most important of all, why love our mother, father, grandparents, and relatives, when we know that one day, we will have to bury them?
Now, pay very close attention, for you will never have to read this again. It is humanity that makes us do so. It is feelings that impel us to care and be cared, to share love, to be ourselves in every single instance. We don’t have to care about what is going to happen in about fifty or sixty years of time, for we have greater duties to commit now. We have friends to fight for, we have parents to show our appreciation to, and we have a life to
"Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place. They come to a ranch an' work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know they're poundin' their tail on some other ranch.
Hold steady. Don't let the torrent of melancholy and drear philosophy drown our world. We depend on you. I don't think you realize how important you are, we are, to our happy world as it stands now.’ (59)
“ you always have somebody supporting you” explains Chandler Pearce. Alex Pearce says that through thick or thin you always have somebody there. Chandler Pearce goes on to say that “going through schools I might have lost some friends, but I always knew that I would have a friend with me.
” I’ve learned that it is not what I have in my life but who I have in my life that counts. ”(http://www.searchquotes.com/quotation/I%27ve_learned_that%2C_it_is_not_what_I_have_in_my_life_but_who_I_have_in_my_life_that_counts./447970/) .What this quote means is that friends are someone that are worth more then anything else. In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men,he shows how the men in farms are always lonely. For example, Crooks did not have anyone.
The Myth of Individual Opportunity Opportunity is something that is earned, not given. You are not born with the gift of individual opportunity. You might be born into poverty or into a rich family. You might be black. You might be white.
Have you ever been left by a so called “friend”? When I say left, I am referring to all sorts of different ways of being excluded at some point by someone you call a friend. This of course includes them no longer acknowledging you, them slowly drifting away from you but closer to someone else, and them leaving you hanging both physically and mentally. The theme of “people drifting apart brings one person closer to themself” is used in many novels and short stories as it is a very relatable topic and can get the reader to feel closer to a character and feel more emotion toward them.
For instance, I have friends who can support or advise me whenever. For example, being surrounded by people means I never feel lonely. Also, there is a large amount of support I can turn to. As the saying goes, “strength in numbers,” means people are better together than alone. When surrounded by friends, family, or even strangers, I can learn from them, share my experiences and knowledge, and they can support me in times of need.
Loneliness can affect people's self esteem and lead them to take many bad decisions.
All of the main characters fight for friendship even if they do so in different ways and for different reasons. All of them feel in need of someone to talk to if it is about science, about what horrible things one has done or about being different and alone. Another feature is the loss of friendship in all cases. Victor loses his friends to death, and so does Walton while the creature never really “fulfilled his dream of being anyone’s true friend” (Jeray 69). This way the novel not only shows the importance of friendship and having companions but also the possible consequences of either being rejected by everyone or of losing beloved people partly even due to own
In the mid 1800s when Poe wrote his short story, society did not know much of mental health, this leads to many studies done about loneliness. Isolation causes the mind to become dispersed restricting the communication abilities, consciously restricting basic human rights making a person
America’s identity is defined differently by every individual. Ideally it was to be a place of freedom and acceptance, identified by its message of liberty and hard-work, however the question arises whether America is a melting pot in which only one culture dominates or it a mosaic of many peoples’ histories. America’s potential and true identity lies within its ability to assimilate and create a natural individualism despite race, class, and immigration standing. A country as powerful and influential as America is within industry, politics, and socioeconomics cannot be abstract in definition.
In today's society, the balance between individualism and conformity to society's expectations is a prominent and deceptive conflict. Oftentimes, the individual must put his uniqueness aside and settle for a view of an occupation, hobby, or idea that society agrees with. Instead of expressing original and creative ideas, they are held hostage by comparing themselves with the lives and accomplishments of others and the standards their our society. One of the biggest tools of society, social media, allows people to share ideas and interests with everyone. However, naturally, one will only post what he knows others will accept and enjoy just as he does.
Every human has four endowments self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom. The power to choose, to respond, to change. The ability to be independent is something that not everyone possesses. You need to be independent in order to survive in the world.
Jerquan Stewart Essay 2 11/15/17 The differences between loneliness and isolation is that loneliness is when you don 't have any friends or family and just alone and isolation is when you choose to be by yourself , as in isolating yourself from everything.
