Another reason why school lunches should be free is because Children need nutritionists to grow. Lacking in the nutrients they need can decrease their learning abilities. There are many evidences that shows children who are hungry are not able to focus, so they have a low attention span, behavioral issues, discipline issues in the school. So nutrition is critical for a child 's brain and for concentration and learning at school. Having breakfast and lunch can increase their chances to succeed in school and in life
To start off, what if I asked if you have ever felt that your school provided lunch wasn’t all that great? If I had asked a student, chances are they’d say that they don’t eat their school lunch by choice. But we’re just seventh graders that don’t know a lot of what really goes on when it comes to our lunches, so I intend to show you some research that I found from credible sources that proves that school lunches need to change.
Every year, more and more food is wasted and school lunches because nobody thinks they are good anymore. The quality of food goes down, less students eat, and more wish they could go and eat somewhere, anywhere, else. If schools were to add off-campus lunches, however, that would all improve. While off-campus lunches may promote unsupervised behavior, going off campus for lunches is a viable option because it is cheaper for the school, cheaper for the students, and makes sure everyone will eat.
Seventy percent of all high schools in America have closed campus lunches. At U.S. Grant High School they are one of the schools that do not allow students to leave campus for lunches. When students do leave the campus, they get an one hundred dollar truancy fine the first time. The next time is five hundred dollars. After that they keep adding an extra five hundred dollars to the fine. It seems just a bit excessive. The point is, should the students just stop leaving for lunch or should the school just allow students to have the ability to leave? Schools should allow the students to leave campus for lunch.
In my opinion, making the school's lunch menu healthier is a bad idea. One reason is that making the menu healthier is not serving a purpose. A second reason is kids can always bring their own lunch to school. A third reason is that making the lunch healthy is not going to make the child have a healthy lifestyle. Although, others may disagree and say that having a healthier lunch menu is a good idea. In one's opinion, they can say that making the school's lunch menu healthier is a good idea. They could say that this is a good idea because kids would be eating healthy at school and home. Some may think that this a good idea because it is a way that is helping lower the obesity rate in kids. Others may think that making the lunch menu healthier
During lunchtime, students generally make their way through the crowded cafeteria to sit with their friends, and enjoy their lunch while being supervised; however, many schools are now authorizing students to have an open campus lunchtime. An open campus allows students to leave school campus unsupervised to have lunch or hang out at a local restaurant or business. Having an open campus is beneficial because it allows students to gain independence, responsibility, trust, the health of students, socialize with friends, and help increase business at local restaurants. Therefore, I believe Arapahoe should continue to have an open campus for the benefit of our students.
According to Solochek, “a salad bar at a high school in Florida is popular, but eight of the 12 students interviewed there said that they were not satisfied with the portion sizes” (Citation). This is a big problem in many school cafeterias’. Solochek mentions that “School districts around the country are tackling complaints about the new nutrition rules that took effect, adding more fruits and vegetables, but shrinking other portion sizes to limit grains, proteins and calories” (Citation). While attending community college, I got the chance to interview a cafeteria worker who told me that all junior high and high school students, including athletes, get the same portion size as elementary students, this is why the big kids stay hungry. In Solochek’s article, he interviewed regular students and athletes who said they either by a second lunch, or buy from an outside source such as a vending machine. Parents are outraged at this situation because they have to provide their kids with extra money, or food to make up for what the schools aren’t doing. The students that have to put up with these horrible meals want to be heard, and in order to do that they have two good options: voice their opinions, or throw the food away. Sure these issues bother students and parents, but they even bother government officials, and the members of student lunch
Imagine going to school and thinking, oh boy what am I going to have for lunch today? And all of the sudden you see something you don’t like, so you don’t eat it and then your stomach starts to growl. What would you do for lunch and how would you explain it to your parents after school? Students have been known to not eat lunch at school very often because, for the main reason, they don’t like it. Others say that they “aren’t hungry”, but you never know. Schools should just make the lunch more healthy and taste better. Even though school lunches could potentially make students sick and not feel good, some students say it is disgusting and causes them not to eat and complain because they’re not getting
The principal is trying to change school lunch menu's to healthier meals. I strongly believe that this is a good idea to change the lunches because of the following reasons: healthier meals makes kids grow big and strong, it gives you more energy to move around, and it taste delicious. Schools all around should consider changing their lunches for the better of their student. This is for the better of the student to have healthy food. I will go into greater detail in the following paragraphs. Although you may think that junk food is good for your body and doing you justice, but it's really not. It's the healthy foods that are doing it such as; vegetables, fruits, and milk. Fruits and vegetables when eaten, give kids the right nourishment
To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray. Children’s complaints about school lunches are often seen as trite. However, while common, they are not any less accurate. If parents (or guardians) ate a school lunch every day, their child’s complaints would become much more understandable. Beverage options include milk, water, and several kinds of juice. The milk itself hardly deserves the label ‘milk’—it is watered down to the point where it can only
Have you ever wondered if you could ever change the school lunches in the Public schools? Well you’re not the only one, many other people thought about changing the way you eat at lunch and started to change it. Some trials have failed but some have succeeded at the trail for their public school. But some administrators what it to come to all schools, for the fact that they are losing money because kids stopped eating lunches at school. The school lunches impacting more than just the schools money, it’s impacting the students education and after school activities just like sports teams.
In the article “Are Our School Lunches Healthy Enough”,by McClatchy-Tribune News Service. The First Lady Michelle Obama’s Campaign to make school lunches healthier. One reason, that it is good to make school lunches healthier is that some parents are paying for unhealthy school lunches that their kids are eating. Another reason, that it is good to make school lunches healthier is that 1 in 3 kid are overweight or obese. The last reason, is that it is not good to make school lunches healthier because the government is ignoring parents and saying that parent can’t make the healthy choice for their children.
Lunch is a time where for thirty minutes everyone settles down to eat and laugh with their friends In many high schools, such as Mountain Pointe High School, there are two lunches to accommodate the student body because one lunch would be too crowded and large. There is first lunch, which is also called fourth lunch because it occurs after third period and then there is second lunch, also called fifth lunch because it is after fourth period. Both lunches have their benefits, but the ones from first lunch can have a tremendous impact. In general, the effects of first lunch instead of second can greatly improve the quality of life for a student.
How many of you eat fast food? How many of you leave school during your lunch break to eat elsewhere? Today I am going to be persuading you about the dangers of open campus lunches. Imagine if you ate fast food 5 days a week for lunch. How do you think that would affect your health and your wallet? Studies show that fast food joints within walking distance of schools show gain more profit from students than the surrounding community (Miura). Today I am going to show you the health risks an open campus lunch poses, the threat of schools losing money, and the dangers to the community that it can cause.
Stress has become a major issue for high school students. Many students have seven classes, participate in sports, have after school activities, homework, and need to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Some parents and outside influencers don’t see the benefits of having a longer lunch period for high school students. Students complain about how long school is now but they don 't have enough time outside of school to complete everything they are expected to. While it is understandable that some parents wouldn’t want longer lunches because it could result in safety issues and students having to remain in school 30 minutes longer than the traditional time, longer lunches would give students a chance to complete homework, get help from teachers, and eat a nutritious meal. All of which are lacked during a school day with a 30 minute lunch block.
