Yes, cellphones are useful but also more dangerous when used at inappropriate times. One of the most dangerous time to use cell phones is while driving. In the essay Winfrey talks about people who were killed by distracted drivers sending text messages or talking on their cell phones devices while driving. She also mentioned the similarity in how texting while driving is as dangerous as driving while under the influence of alcohol. Do dealers of cars & dealers of phones want to kill us or help us? I think that they should make phones turn off when you get in a car, the car should be programed to tell the phone companies that someone is driving. Everyone talks about how they wanna stop texting and driving and the only thing they have done was have police officers give them a ticket or warning. Yeah that might scare some people but in the end if there's no cop around then they will just pull their phone out again. “ Do you wanna have your last text be hi or something no one's ready to send their last text out…”.I think that people should stop texting and driving because there’s been so many injuries and deaths”(Apecsadmin).
There are many problems today with texting and driving. In today’s society, many people have phones, especially young teens who have recently received their licenses. Texting and driving is a big temptation for teens and all of us but it’s something that many people fail to resist. Everyday about nine people are killed and over 1000 people are injured due to texting and driving. This issue needs to be resolved quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Transition: Now that I have introduced my topic, I would like to begin by talking about hazards and harms of texting and driving.
Most of us believe that we are amazing at multitasking, but the reality of the truth is that most of us are not even close to being decent at doing it. Now let’s say that we try to multitask and drive that puts us at a bigger risk and most of us seem to be ignoring the problem like it’s not a real issue. Nevertheless, research clearly shows that nothing positive can come from us multitasking and driving.
Imagine being a parent letting their teen driver go to a friends house and that teen forgot to text her friend that she was on her way over, and gets in the car starts driving and decides to finally text her friend she’s on her way but, because that teen was an inexperienced driver she wrecks and never makes it her friends. Imagine how the parent and the friend feel. Sending a text should never be more important than a person’s safety.

One of the greatest death causes while driving for many years was because of individuals driving under the influence of alcohol. However, alcohol is no longer the only reason why so many deaths are being caused out in the streets while driving. Society is so consumed by this one thing that even while driving it cannot wait. Those who are driving do not understand the danger they put themselves and others in when they give their attention away from the road and everything around them. This small device in the hands of people while driving has caused many deaths in our world. People will always have arguments for either one side, saying that texting is more dangerous while driving or drinking. Every day 6.8 billion people use a cell phone. With almost 91% of the world population using these devices, one would assume they are safe. They are not. Some would disagree, contradicting with how cell phones can improve your everyday life with health apps, reminders, etc. However, the negatives outweigh the positives.
