Pete Rose was a "hometown baseball hero" who excelled at a local Cincinnati-area high school. He stayed in Cincinnati, signed with the Reds, and went on to become one of the most talented players and managers in history. He was not only caught gambling but he was also caught cheating on his taxes. Pete Rose’s reputation was drastically changed. He is one of the greats and is now suspended from MLB(Major League Baseball) forever. Although Pete Rose is a legendary baseball player, he should be banned from the Hall of Fame and looked down upon for gambling. He needs to be the example to all future players and managers. Pete Rose was born on April 14, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Western Hill High School. While in High School, …show more content…
In 1962 he was given the opportunity to play for the Reds. The next spring, regular season, second baseman Don Blasingame pulled a muscle in his groin and Rose’s name was called. His spot was never taken. During his professional career, he started off going 0-11 from his first eleven at bats. His first hit was a triple versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 13, 1963. Rose went on to hit .273 for the season but still went on to win the Rookie of the Year award. “From 1965-1973 Rose hit a .320 averaging a 205 hits per season.” Rose finished in the top 10 MVP awards seven times throughout this nine year stretch; winning the award completely in 1973 with .338 batting average and 230 hits that season. Rose was a versatile player playing “all three outfield positions, second base, third base, and even a fill-in appearance at first base”. The Reds was the team to beat that year. Despite making it to the world series in 1970-1972, they still had yet to make a win. This changed in 1975 when they had a 108 win season. The Reds played the Red Sox in an exhilarating series win. The following season, the Reds won the championship again becoming back-to-back world champs. Mid year of 1978, on May 5, Rose reached …show more content…
He will be used to set an example for all the other players and managers forever. Rose went from being a good High School player to a Major League star in just a couple year transition. He strove for the Major League hitting record at 4,192. He surpassed this record Mid-way through the 1986 season and he ended his career with 4,256 hits. He was a manager for the reds for a couple years before getting banned from the Major Leagues for getting caught gambling on games. Rose was suspended indefinitely from the Majors and was not allowed to be entered into the Hall of Fame. Rose should be abolished from the Hall of Fame and looked down upon for breaking the contract he
Ronald Torreyes 24-year-old Venezuelan, who currently just concluded his first full season with Yankees. Standing at a height of only 5’10, Torreyes is the shortest player on the Yankees Roster. His stature does not although, hinder his playing ability as he has proven to be an impressive asset for the Yankees bench this season. To further understand Torreyes, we will need to further look into the man that I consider to be a great utility player for the Yanks.
Roger was a member of five American League (AL) pennant winning Yankees teams, winning the World Series twice. He was also a member of two NL pennant winning St. Louis Cardinals teams, winning the championship in 1967. He retired after two seasons with St. Louis with totals of 1,325 hits, 826 runs, 850 RBI, 275 homers, and a career 0.260 batting average. Roger Maris is not in the Hall of Fame, but the 1961 Topps Roger Maris 2 Baseball Card is still sought after by collectors and fans.
An associate editor in SPORTINGNEWS Roy Clements wrote the argument of Buck Weaver’ reinstatement in the MLB. He was a one of the eight players, who banned from the MLB. After his death, his family tries to get into him in the MLB again. It tries to reinstate him in MLB because the MLB commissioner considers Pete Rose, who banned from MLB because of gambling on baseball, try to reinstate in the MLB.
My Supreme Court Case was Flood vs. Kuhn. Here’s some background about the case. Curt Flood was an outfielder on the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team during the 1969 season. Bowie
Rob Neyer’s article “Say it ain't so ... for Joe and the Hall” wrote about reinstatement of Joe Jackson in the MLB. People still doubt Kenesaw Landdis’s decision that is lifetime ban from the MLB because he takes the circumstances into considerations. The decision based on trial in 1919, but it was unnatural. On the other hand, Rob discussed that the introduction to the MLB Hall of Fame and reinstatements in the MLB are different issue.
Even though Rose’s stats says he belongs in the Hall of Fame, he has been banned for breaking the rules. People who break the rules should be punished. It shouldn’t matter that that person is a small child or the president of the United States. Rose, like many other athletes, has made personal mistakes that happen to become public knowledge. Take Jose Canseco’s career for example.
Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame? It all went down hill when he started gambling. But his major league debut started on April 8, 1963. After exceeding the rookie expectations in 1963 he won the ROY (Rookie of the Year) award.
I hope Rose has peace of mind knowing that he probably won’t have to deal with convincing another commissioner to allow him back into the sport he loves. Rose was a staple in the majors for a long time. He was a great manager and an even better player. Those aspects should outweigh his gambling
In 1986 Rose was replaced by a pitcher popularly known as Pat Pacillo, which resulted in his unofficial retirement. Rose left his career with multiple Major and National League records that remained unbroken for many years. Also, Rose ended his playing career with a hit-record of 4,256, he also broke the 57-year old record held by Ty Cob when he reached his total hits of 4,192. However, he was later blamed for the use of corked bats, while accomplishing the hit record against Ty Cobb. Later, Rose denied any use of corked bats and claimed he had never cheated the game (Gehring, 2003, p.
He didn’t have the second season he wanted either. The ball started rolling on his third season and he began breaking records. On April, 8th 1974 he broke Babe Ruths home run record(714). Leading up to this game he received racial and death threats. Aarons breakout season was 1957 winning National League MVP and leading the braves to a World Series championship.
The winning was not about the money. The winning was for their pride and they most definitely took pride in winning. Pete was raised around gambling and saw betting on his team as another opportunity to win at something else. Rose was so confident in his team’s ability to win that he he would wager large amounts of money to prove how confident he was that he was going to win. Admittedly, Rose was wrong for breaking the rules of baseball; however, his motives as well as the way he was raised should be taken into account when talking about banishing arguably one of the best to play the game of
In this context, if enough people care to let one of the best baseball players of all time into the Hall, which true baseball fans should, than why shouldn’t we being letting our opinions be heard, there are much worse offenses in this world than gambling, especially when you have other all-star athletes being in the news for crimes such as drunk driving or even murder. Why shouldn’t “Charlie Hustle” get the respect he deserves and before this subject is to past history to fix it. At the time I’m not saying they were in the wrong, but times have changed and with the changing of times it is time to let arguably the Greatest of All Time to march into Cooperstown and see his name there, its never to late to fix a mistake and it is up to us as fans to make it happen. Pete Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, and it’s time that we as baseball fans, make that
He proved everyone wrong and made history. Although he was in the MLB, conflict would still arise. Pitchers would purposely through the ball at Jackie and aim for his head. Jackie’s teammates were even cruel to him.
Everyone deserves a right to a fair trial and Pete Rose has not received one. Pete will never be forgotten for what he did on the field and how he played the game. Charlie Hustle without a doubt should be allowed back in baseball activities and in the Hall of Fame. The man deserves to be honored in the greatest way possible and remembered for generations to come. Baseball is arguably the hardest sport to play because of the intense mental focus, skill, and Rose excelled exceptionally throughout his career.
