Frieden’s health impact pyramid (2010) illustrates how much an intervention tactic will impact a population. According to the pyramid, counseling and education, which are both at the tip of the pyramid, have the smallest impact on the population when trying to change a health behavior. The closer the intervention is to the base of the pyramid, the greater the impact is on the population. On the other hand, the closer the intervention is to the base of the pyramid, the lack of choice an individual has to participate in the intervention increases. “Although the effectiveness of interventions tends to decrease at higher levels of the pyramid, those at the top often require the least political commitment. Achieving social and economic change might
Many people think that for one to be healthy, they must be psychically active, but that’s not entirely true. To truly be healthy, they must take into account the three main elements that make up health. A health triangle can help a person achieve a state of well-being, for the triangle has the necessary parts for leading a healthy life. In order for a health triangle to be effective in one’s life, the person must understand what it is and how it works, and how to balance out and improve their triangle.
Social model often ensures physical and mental health and broader sphere of participating in active life. The model permits most understated discrimination of people that succeed to lead productive lives irrespective of physical damage. The disadvantage of social model is the approach that runs the threat of excessive breadth and to incorporate all life. Therefore, they do not differentiate among the state to become healthy the concerns of being healthy neither do they differentiate among “health” and “health determinants”.
I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals. The behavior change philosophy fits my personal philosophy of health education the most because it involves goal setting, behavioral contracts and self-monitoring to help foster the modification of an unhealthy habit. The behavior change philosophy is very important because change is a process, not an event. Self-efficacy and motivation are key factors in successful behavior changes. In life I value success, balance, freedom, resilience and my well-being. These values will influence my career because, when choosing a career, it is important to have values. People who choose careers that are aligned with beliefs and values are more likely to find contentment and success in their
Personal philosophy differs for everyone, but generally guides a person in their professional practice in addition to their private lives. In my personal philosophy, I largely base my nursing pathways and private life on ethical values. Although I understand that there empirical beliefs that guide many nurses, and I am still a fresher nurse without years upon years of experience, I still hold ethics at the core.
My interest in a counseling related profession and helping others spawned as a result of a lifetime of learning and curiosity; namely, mindfully molding my thoughts, actions, and habits into a perpetual pattern of unconscious and unpremeditated altruistic behavior. Furthermore, I have always aspired to determine the roots of all my emotions and master the behaviors of a trustworthy, loyal, courteous, and kind individual. Every day should begin with the thought, “What can I, as an individual or collaboratively with others, accomplish to relieve part of the shared and total human suffering of this world?” If such a mantra was revered by the collective consciousness of the human race, misery and suffering would be sharply reduced, if not eliminated
Education is the key that unlocks the door to success and a life filled with great opportunities. Being well-educated gives an individual the ability to strive to become the president of the United States or even a CEO of one of the world’s biggest companies. Therefore, education isn’t a tool to take for granted because it expands one knowledge on the world we presently live in and it also, gives us the intelligence to make reasonable decisions in life as we mature. The power of education can escort an individual out of isolation, allowing them to use words to express their deepest thoughts and emotions.
Our family can only eat whatever we grow on a small plot of land located a short way from our house. We have no other form of income so if we are unable to pick anything to eat from the land we go without food on that day. This happens a lot and we regularly go several days without any food at all. When we do pick vegetables from the land it’s very rarely enough for the whole family to be fed so my husband and I have to decide who will eat that day. You can see my younger children crying a lot, it’s because they are so hungry.”“The only source of water for our family is a shallow well situated near to our field. The water is very dirty and the children regularly get sick
The “healthy heart is a better start program” is a setting based approach to health. This program aims at preventing Cardio vascular disease for Aboriginal and for Torres straight islander Australians, with a whole system approach. Sitting based approach is addressing the context within which people live in, for Shepherdson college the school is the context and they work as a team, this is more effective then asking individuals to be responsible for their own health because it offers a large amount of support and positive encouragement as well as community support and partnerships. Setting based approaches are effective because individuals are not the only people evolved. it’s the whole community. The “healthy heart better start program” is designed to
When someone says the name Condoleezza Rice the first thing that comes to most minds is the first black woman to serve as Secretary of State. Serving under both the George Bush and George W. Bush administrations she was once the presidential hopeful for the republican party. Condoleezza Rice may have an extensive political resume but she has always made education a clear priority to her.
Countless students, teachers, and even national leaders have made the point that something has faltered in our education system. The education system in the United States has been picked apart piece by piece and scrutinized against other methods of nations. This process is repeated time and time again, always leading to a horrible truth of the failing system. Although we know something is missing, no action has been taken to mend the broken education system. The basis of this failure is the less-fortunate students who learn at a below-average level. These students must be helped and aided to boost them up to an expected level of achievement. To start the process of evaluating a new education process, we have
Education is within everyone’s grasp. It can give a person opportunities they normally couldn’t fathom attaining. Education can break boundaries and give people the strength to persevere. It allows one to have epiphanies that otherwise might not have happened. Through education, a person can realize the importance of learning, overcome challenges, and discover purpose.
Health promotion and health education have many similarities, despite them being distinctly different. Health promotion and health education are both very important, especially when being used as tools in the hands of different authority figures and policy makers. Health promotion and health education both advocate for health in a systematic way or as a planned application, however we learned in class that anyone can promote health, but not everyone can be a health educator when it comes to health education.
The core assumptions of the Health Belief Model (HBM) are based on the premise that a person will develop a health behavior and is willing to take action to avoid the occurrence of the disease. Furthermore, the person needs to believe that they have the possibility of developing the disease, that they can avoid the disease, that the cost of the change outweighs the benefit and that the person can effectively implement the recommended behavior. Furthermore, the major concepts of the HBM are perceived severity, perceived benefit, perceived barriers, cues to action and self-efficacy (de Chesnay and Anderson, 2016, p. 155-156).
Education is a huge issue that not only affects kids and their parents, but their community as well. Schools teach young kids to become the next generation of engineers, technicians, and political leaders, working towards creating a better future for their country and their community. Teachers have the unique job of creating the future leaders of the world, and preparing them for both college and life beyond, by putting a special push towards math and science, the so-called “foundation” of our society. The hard truth is, no one can be anything they want to be. Some people are simply not cut out to be engineers, doctors, or psychologists. Modern day schooling forces students to fit a mold only a select few can fill by creating too much structure and having an overbearing emphasis on math and science, when other, less structured extracurricular activities can promote respect, discipline, and teamwork.
