Photochemical Smog: Type Of Air Pollution

890 Words4 Pages

Smog it is type of air pollution, it's a mixture of smoke and fog in the air. It outcome of a big amount of coal burning, and mixture of smoke and sulfur dioxide. In 1950 scientists described a new type of smog known as photochemical smog. It is a very huge problem that people suffer from in their cities because it causes to health problems.
(Photochemical smog) it is a brown haze above cities is a mixture of pollutant that comes from the reaction of sunlight with nitrogen oxide and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).There are two types of pollutants. Primary pollutant leads to secondary pollutant. The primary happened when nitrogen and VOCs change using sunlight in series of chemical reaction. Secondary happened when ozone forms at ground level. …show more content…

Air pollution affects both wild birds and mammals, which mean that it, because a huge decreases in animals populations. In addition, air pollution made an unusual change in the distribution of several wildlife species (internet resource).
Acid rain is one of the examples that affect animal life (freshwater). Acid rain is actually sulfuric and nitric acids (sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide reacted with the water molecules in the atmosphere) that fall on the ground as raindrops. Acid rain falls not only on the land but also on the lakes, rivers and streams, then make a disaster for the ecosystem for the species that live there. In Sweden acid rain made the lakes so acidic and was the reason behind the death of all the fishes there. The pH concentration will change if the lakes or the streams became acidic, and this will unfortunately cause problems for the fish species and its eggs also. At pHs that is lower than 5 the fish's egg can't be hatch and this will cause later a decline in the fish population and later it might be eliminated. If acid rain falls it will also affects the plants that some animals depends on as a source of food and this will also be a reason behind death of many animals populations (internet …show more content…

As we discussed before, air pollution affects plants species and this will immediately make the animals that only eat plants suffer and have difficulty to find the proper food resources. Since 1980 sharp decline in amphibian species has been reported, and according to ScienceDaily.com, birds rate of extinction has increased 100 times faster than the normal rate. Each cycle or ink of an ecosystem's food chain have shortage in part of it, and if there is no control of the air pollution the life on this planet will be nearly impossible and threatened (internet
