3.1 Overview
To find out about the underlying effects of smartphone on the 2 dimensions of health of millennials, 76 questionnaires have been completed and collected in order to investigate the trend of smartphone use amongst Hong Kong millennials. With the support from other statistical resources to back up my findings, this could provide a concrete platform for my conclusion in the later stage. 3.2 Focus question 1: What is the current situation of smartphone use amongst Hong Kong millennials?

Many of the respondents spend 5 to 6 hours a day, specifically 34.2%, which is the largest percentage. However, an alarming case where in 31.6% of the respondents use their smartphone for 7hours or more. With this constant …show more content…

The factor with highest rate is boredom. About 39.5% of respondents claimed boredom as the factor leading to their excessive smartphone usage. Nowadays, many people including millennials can be seen using their phone in public transportations, on the street, etc. They use their smartphones to fill in time.
The second highest factor rated is addiction. About 25% of respondents have claimed to have no self-control over their usage. Thus, making this practice habitual.
The following was rated by 15.8% of respondents, saying that the multiple functions has become the factor for their usage. Smartphones could cater the needs of these millennials. For instance, staying informed of the latest news, enhancing study and work efficiency and getting information at their fingertips.
The last most picked factor is social anxiety. About 10.5% of respondents have social anxiety , meaning they fear social situations that involve interaction with other people.
Other factors such as conformity, excessive advertising and boasting were of little importance based on the results of the questionnaire. This reflects the value of young people such as
