CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION Physical therapists, or PTs, are health care professionals who can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility - in many cases without expensive surgery and often reducing the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects. The physical therapist will examine and will talk about the patient’s symptoms and daily activity. The goal of physical therapists are to help the joints of the patient to move better and to restore or increase flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance. Healthwise (2015) said that physical therapy is a type of treatment needed when health problems make it hard for a person to move around, do everyday tasks
Following a surgical intervention many surgeon 's advice or dictate the treatment to be given while others allow independent intervention by hand therapist. This trend varies as many experienced surgeons understand the importance of hand therapy and refer patients within elapsed time while others underestimate or lack awareness in field of hand therapy. Myriad evidence supports the concept that early controlled motion is beneficial to both tendon healing and the accrual of strength, while also decreasing adhesions and work of flexion. So the decisions for postoperative rehabilitation is generally made in conjunction with the
Different physical therapy clinics utilize physical therapist assistants in different ways. In some clinics, the physical therapist assistants do the bulk of the patient's treatment, in others they fill in when the physical therapist is out of the clinic or their schedule is already full. Regardless of the clinic style, as a physical therapist assistant my daily life will consist of aiding patients through their rehabilitation process while working under the supervision and direction of a physical therapist. It will be my job to follow the plan of care that was created by the physical therapist and ensure that each patient is doing the prescribed exercises accurately. I will also need to accurately report the progress of each patient to the
By doing so, one can get a feel of what a physical therapist does and the multiple types of settings they can work in. Here, they can also develop the people skills needed in the future work field. I have been able to observe and shadow physical therapists in a hospital, private practice, and a nursing home. Each is similar but also display different aspects of physical therapy. I very much enjoyed my time volunteering at the private practice.

Literature Review Physical therapy is the practice of healing various injuries with exercises instead of drugs. People have to attend physical therapy for various reasons, such as after facing a stroke, after a surgery, or if someone is experiencing pain anywhere in their body. From the International Association for the Study of Pain, pain can be defined as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, unique to every individual, associated with actual or potential tissue damage” (Keefe, 2017). Many reports have shown that over 100 million Americans suffer from persistent pain, (Keefe, 2017). These people who are experiencing pain must be referred to a physical therapist’s office.

Even those who have been doing ballet for almost all of their lives, believe that there is always room for improvement, which shows determination, and modesty. It also helps them accept constructive criticism, since it’s something that most of them deal with almost every day due to most ballet instructors being severely harsh. This encourages ballet dancers to develop thicker
Introduction Effective communication is a core clinical skill required for each and every doctor and patient. The word “communication” is defined as to “share, join, unite, or make understanding common” (Brindley & Reynolds, 2011). Being a good communicator is vital both for a healthcare provider and a patient, since the reason why patients often complain is the lack of effective communication (McCorry & Mason, 2011). Moreover, being able to communicate clearly does not actually mean to have a rich vocabulary or to use scientific terms and technical language, but effective communication skills are necessary for health care professionals to help their patients to be more adherent to medical recommendations and prescriptions (McCorry & Mason,
When working in an ER it is important to be up to date with what is going on, and remaining calm in stressful situations. It is important to maintain and practice skills that benefit you in your career because those skills make you better at your job. I volunteer at a facility called Universal Healthcare, which is a rehabilitation therapy organization. Working with patients improves my skills, and benefits me because I can use those skills for my future career. The therapist I work with encourages me to ask questions, so I benefit and learn from volunteering.
Working with athletes is not the only option. You can also work with older people, soldiers, and even children. The NATA defines athletic trainers as healthcare professionals who recognize, prevent and rehabilitate injuries that result from playing sports or other physical activities. (“Field of athletic training” 2015) They may be part of a complete health care team and work under a physician 's supervision. Athletic trainers provide medical and allied health care services to individual athletes or entire sports teams.

When change and inspiration are intertwined, progress is expedited and personal growth materializes. This relationship motivates me to become an inspiration for others, because helping others heals your own wounds in the process. Making positive connections and conveying inspiration to others is what has led me to Seattle Pacific University. After finding solace through physical therapy myself, I hope to earn the credentials that will allow me help others find emotional and mental security through physical stability. Generating change catalyzes growth, so with a new college experience in mind I am looking to gain both personal knowledge and a holistic approach to inspiring and informing

I took classes like KIN 220, CST 105 but the most helpful overall was KIN 250 which was though by my most favorite professor, Mrs. Poole. The course helped me realize the importance of physical activity by providing me understanding how PA can improve health, it can help people with mental problems, and it can help people to connect with each other. Physical activity has a big impact on health and also mental health by providing them a way to change their body into what they want it to be. Physical activity can help with connecting with others by helping you push yourself out of your comfort level and try something new. This course helped me prepare for my career by providing me the information I needed to be successful.
