Students who want to become a physical therapist must find the right school, that provides the best education programs. To practice as a physical therapist in the US, the student must earn a physical therapist degree from a CAPTE- accredited physical therapist education program and pass a state licensure exam (Physical Therapy Education Overview). To do so, physical therapist must study courses that often include: anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, and physics (Physical Therapy Schools & Careers). The doctoral degree program is included in those courses, which is a bachelor degree program, which usually takes up to 3 years to complete. All states require PTs to become licensed.
Therapy strives to reduce pain, increase flexibility, range of motion, and function, build strength, and correct posture. Patient education is an important component in physical therapy. Patients learn about how their spine works, proper body mechanics, common disorders and their causes, benefits of good posture, importance of physical fitness. What kind of people do they treat? A physical therapist helps take care of patients in all phases of healing, from initial diagnosis through the restorative and preventive stages of recovery.
CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION Physical therapists, or PTs, are health care professionals who can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility - in many cases without expensive surgery and often reducing the need for long-term use of prescription medications and their side effects. The physical therapist will examine and will talk about the patient’s symptoms and daily activity. The goal of physical therapists are to help the joints of the patient to move better and to restore or increase flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance. Healthwise (2015) said that physical therapy is a type of treatment needed when health problems make it hard for a person to move around, do everyday tasks
Through Physical Therapy I feel that patients get more than just rehabilitation of an injury or surgery but they get a change in mindset from injured to functioning independently again as they did before. I want to be a bigger part of that
The first year of medical school the student learns science subjects and clinical skills(Hill). Science classes are very important in the healthcare field. Clinical skills help prepare the student for residency. Mrs. Turvey said she “finished medical in 1977(Turvey).” She worked as a nurse for 41 years, 18 of those years she was an OB/GYN. Mrs. Turvey said that she “has her MSN or her Masters in Nursing(Turvey).” A MSN is almost as high as a doctor you can go.
Career in Athletic Training Athletic trainers are highly qualified health professionals who are trained in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. (“Explore Health Careers” 2015) Usually when you hear Athletic Trainer, you may think that all they do is sit around and wrap ankles. But there is actually more to this job, including an abundance of responsibilities. I am interested in pursuing a career in athletic training because i get to help athletes recover, and/or prevent injury so that they can continue to enjoy the game. Becoming an athletic trainer comes with many responsibilities.
Physical Therapy Physical Therapy is an important step to take when trying to recover from an injury, it is a process that is better than personal training for any sport or competition. Instead of recovering by yourself and getting poor results on trying to improve, going to a physical therapist will give you a better result in a faster time. Personal training doesn 't focus on improving injuries but more on weight loss or muscle improvement. Going through physical therapy process will help in the process getting back to regular activities and helps the patient have help in getting motivated psychologically. The physical therapist will motivate the patient to recover as much as they can and help them progress in a steady pace, but also show
Physical therapy can help you restore, among others, strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. Program created is personal, depending on the specific needs of the patient. The plan of treatment almost always includes an exercise space motion of joints and reinforcement. Manual therapy can also be included to relax and relieve the pain. Manual therapy include massage, which
The first step on the road to recovery is to get moving. Exercising helps to release endorphins and make individuals feel better ("Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)"). Exercise will also keep the body in shape. The second step on the road to recovery is connecting with others. Talking to someone about what happened is an effective way to calm the nervous system.
Being a physical therapist would be a good job because you get to help people that have problems with something relating to their body. Their job can be very hard since you are teaching a person how to do something again. If a person lost an arm they would have to go to a physical trainer to learn how to use a prostatic arm. Physical therapists provide care to people of all ages who have functional problems resulting from back and neck injuries, sprains, strains, fractures, arthritis, amputations, neurological disorders, such as stroke or cerebral palsy, injuries related to work or sports, and other conditions. To be a physical therapist you would have to be very patient because the patient is probably trying very hard to achieve their goal of getting better.
“Ow! My knee! I think I need to go see a physical therapist.” This is an example of one of the many reasons people go to see a certified physical therapist. “Physical Therapists, sometimes called PTs, help injured or ill people improve their movement and manage their pain” (Bureau 1). They design plans that can be help patients recover from various injuries, also a PT must promote the health of their patients (United 1).
