Physician Assistant Course Reflection

What is a Physician Assistant? As a relatively new field of practice, this answer is often asked. Physician Assistants are also known as PAs. They practice medicine on a team all under the supervision of a doctor. The name is largely a misnomer as physician assistants are much more than mere “assistants”. They are educated to diagnose injuries and illnesses, provide treatment and examine patients. Typical responsibilities of a physician assistant include: reviewing patients’ medical histories, conducting physician exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, give treatment, evaluate and counsel patients, and prescribe medicines (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor).

The Physician Assistant (PA) is an essential component of a medical staff. Physician Assistants work in many different areas of medicine under the direct supervision of a primary care physician. However, in some cases, the physician assistant can perform autonomously. I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. As a result, I believe that my close working relationship with the Pathologists ' and Pathologists ' Assistants, as well as the exposure and knowledge I have gained by working in the department will help me succeed, particularly in Loma Linda University 's Pathologists ' Assistant program.

As an undergraduate at IUPUI I would be very eager to pursue my academic and Career plans. I’m interested in biology and chemistry with the main goal of attending the physician’s assistant program after my undergraduate years. As an undergrad at IUPUI I would like to be in a position of leadership, in anyway, volunteering, setting on panels or committees and helping the community... Being an Indianapolis native I know all that the city has to offer and would love to be a part of it.

When becoming a Medical Assistant the education of post-secondary school can and will come in handy. Some jobs do let people come in and work that just have a high school diploma; however, having a degree would more than likely get you the job and would be more of a guarantee. “Programs for medical assisting are available from community colleges, vocational schools, technical schools, and universities and take about 1 year to complete” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). If you had wanted to go to school another year longer would get you an associate’s degree and the more education, the better your chances of getting the job.

Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.

For my Capstone Project, I chose the career as physician assistant. I worked hard throughout the year to make sure I make a good grade on the Capstone Project. I job shadowed at D.D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in the pain management unit. I spent most of the time observing my mentor while she performed check-ups on her patients. Also, I saw my mentor give injections to patients to help with pain.

I admire how much knowledge physician assistants obtain throughout their years of schooling since they learn a great amount about many portions of medicine. I always desired to learn as much about science and medicine as I possibly could; therefore, this profession is perfect for me. I also love caring for people and that is what I get to do as a medical professional. My desire to learn and my passion for volunteering and helping others will allow me to be an essential part of the physician assistant profession. I now desire to work in either Infectious Disease, because of the panel, or Orthopedic Surgery, due to my love for working with injuries like breaks, strains, sprains, and tears. I know this program will fully prepare me for any branch I choose to work

Choosing a career in the medical field can very be overwhelming, there are a multitude of options. The job that is in demand the most is Registered Nurses. This degree, at the minimum, requires an associate’s degree. By the year 2020, all R.N.’s will need to have a BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing); Bachelor’s degree programs are 4-year programs. But don’t stop there, after 2-3 years of on the job experience, find what area you would like to specialize in, and go on and earn that Physician Assistant degree. Pediatrics is what I plan to specialize in. I have always been interested and fascinated with babies and toddlers. There will be many benefits to becoming a Physician Assistant that will outweigh the negatives of the additional academic workload.

Another example of when a check digit is used is in barcode numbers. The majority of products that you can buy have a 13-digit number on them, which is scanned to get all the product details, such as the price. This 13-digit number is referred to as the ‘GTIN-13’ where ‘GTIN’ stands for Global Trade Item Number.

Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are two such professionals in the field of medicine who are important for the medical field equally. Their functions are also quite similar with very minor differences between the two. Due to such similarities it becomes difficult for the general population to differentiate between these two professionals.

Physician assistants work under the supervision of a physician. The service provided by a PA is contingent upon their education, experience, the state laws, facility policies and the needs of the patients at the practice. The standards which defines the service that PAs provide allow for faster, effective and specialized health care. Physician Assistants are licensed to obtain patient medical histories, conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret test, develop treatment plans, assist in surgery, write prescriptions for controlled substances, and educate and counsel patients.

When becoming a physician 's assistant you must always be attentive to your grades even when in high school. This is simply because it is a very competitive course to be accepted into. If you plan on entering into the physician 's assistants program there are prerequisite courses throughout high school that you should be applying yourself if possible. These courses include chemistry and biology which is usually taken in your sophomore or junior years. Another would be anatomy and physiology which in high school is offered as an elective course and sometimes offered as a college credit if payed for. High school and the courses you choose are simply the beginning of your continuing  education to becoming a physician 's

Ever wondered what a medical assistant does everyday? Ever thought of going to school and becoming one? Learn about what a medical assistant does, how to become one and why they are so important. Also how to continue to more education and become something even higher! Things like a RN and LPN is higher and can continue from even there. I will also talk about why being a medical assistant is so important and why they are important to other people. So as reading will learn all the things will need to know to become a medical assistant.

Looking back when I started my nursing school, I can proudly say that I have evolved both physically and psychologically. I was not sure if nursing was the right choice for me at first because I had difficulties interacting with people outside my family circle. The first semester was challenging for me because I did not know how to interact with my class mates and felt isolated each time there is a class activity. I joined a study group later that semester and it has been an excitement ever since.
