What makes certain clothing respectable? By the way they are sewn or by the people that wear them, people have deemed some clothing to be more “respectable” than others. At Seton Hall Prep, students are required to wear a blazer, button down shirt, tie, and pants with a belt. Mark Smith the author of “The Road to Winter” displays that affliction brings out the very finest and least in people. The story is centred the main character Finn. He survived a deadly virus that wiped out his entire town and he has to adapt to a life by himself. Finn lost his family and friends and had to survive on his own. He learnt to kill animals, defend himself and a whole lot more.
Pi’s mother is displayed as the typical housewife in India as she takes on the stereotypical domestic roles of a woman by cooking, cleaning and looking after her children in their household. In addition, “Before moving to Pondicherry zoo, father ran a large hotel in madras” (Martel 14). Evidently, Pi’s father takes on the role of the breadwinner in the novel by going to work everyday and by controlling the household. Furthermore, as being the dominant figure in the household, Pi’s father (Santosh Patel) has made the major decisions in the household, for instance like moving to Canada and selling the Podicherry zoo. In the novel, Pi who is the protagonist is placed in a life or death situation, ultimately testing his faith and morality. It is exhibited in the novel that he developed a deep sense of kindness and morality towards all things through believing in three religions, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. Nevertheless, as he suffers from hunger and death, he abandons his morality as an act of survival. Richard Parker demonstrates the Id as he is ultimately a symbol of Pi’s survival instincts and his capacity to do terrible acts in order to survive. Throughout the novel, Richard Parker will doing anything to satisfy his hunger which represents Pi, so he is not real, instead, he is Pi’s basic instincts which will not stop until its satisfied.
“The Hero’s Journey” is term for a narrative style that was identified by scholar Joseph Campbell. The narrative pattern would depict a character’s heroic journey, and categorize the character’s experiences into three large sections: departure, which contained the hero’s call to adventure, fulfillment, which consisted of the hero’s initiation, trials, and transformation, and finally the return. To be trapped in one's own mind may be the worst prison imaginable. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", the narrator of the story is constantly at battle with many different forces, such as John, her husband, the yellow wallpaper that covers the walls of her room, and ultimately herself. Throughout the story the narrator further detaches herself from her life and becomes fixated on the yellow wallpaper that surrounds her in her temporary home, slowly driving her mad. The narrator of "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a major and dynamic character as she is the main character of the story, and throughout the story her personality and ways of thinking change drastically.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
In Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” demonstrates the personal growth of the dynamic protagonist Louise Mallard, after hearing news of her husband’s death. The third-person narrator telling the story uses deep insight into Mrs. Mallard’s thoughts and emotions as she sorts through her feelings after her sister informs her of her husband’s death. During a Character analysis of Louise Mallard, a reader will understand that the delicate Mrs. Mallard transforms her grief into excitement over her newly discovered freedom that leads to her death. As Mrs. Mallard sorts through her grief she realizes the importance of this freedom and the strength that she will be able to do it alone.
“A true friend accepts who you are and helps you become who you should be.” Steve and Nathaniel proved that friendship and happiness can be real in the novel The Soloist by Steve Lopez. The way friendship is portrayed in the novel is unexpected in such a way that we don’t see it happen often in our daily life. It is important to our society because finding a true friend is really difficult to find. True friendship is hard to find now in days because we expect many things in return from other people.
In the novel, Ordinary People by Judith Guest, a family goes through the trials of trying to find normalcy after a tragedy strikes. Throughout the story you meet the Jarret family and watch as they progress through the everyday life and the challenges that come with it. Conrad Jarret is an ordinary 17-year-old boy living in Lake Forest, Illinois. Conrad is living with the burden of thinking he is at fault for his brother’s death and blaming himself for the family quandary’s. Conrad, by far, is the most interesting character for the reason that he unquestionably struggles to try to find what he defines as a “normal” life.
In the world, society has set standards most people follow. They must dress, act, and look a certain way for them to be accepted by others. Several do not understand that they are being conformed to be someone who they are not. Some movies challenge others to look beyond the standards of society. For example, in movie “Dead Poets Society”, Mr. Keating 's teaches his students to form their own ideas and opinions.
Martel uses pi’s life to show the readers the significance of culture in determining a person's character. pi’s character if formed by the multicultural contrasts featured throughout the novel. pi was born into Hinduism because that's what his parents taught him.pi says “the universe makes sense to me through Hindu eyes.” to be part of a Hindu family you would need to have a natural love for spirituality and beauty just like the novel portrayed in pi’s character. pi ended up traveling to Toronto Canada to study, this shows how pi is passionate about education.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
